Hi Fairy87,

Well done on your decision to quit, not just for you but your family :D

I know how hard it is to quit when you have a young family to look after, I failed many a time but will never stop trying :p

Try have ing a jug of iced water in the fridge & if you can catch yourself before you explode, pour a glass, sip it slowly, untill you feel a little calmer. The iced water will help rid your body of toxins, help with tiredness due to dehydration & help your body burn fat stores as it has to raise your core body temperature. Drink it often & it will help you feel so much better. As for the dizziness remember that know you are not breathing thousands of chemicals your brain is actually getting oxygen to it & will take awhile to settle down, hence the dizziness. This shouldn't last long however. Deep breaths also helped me loads when I had one of 'those' moments.

Visit the site in my sig if you have time, will give you great motivation & insight to those withdrawal symptoms, explain them & make them much less scary :D

Hi fairy

I also got young kids .....And i found it flipping hard to keep in my shouts first thing in the morning over the first week or so of quit .....I used to say that i was sorry & mummy was tired or not well..or something.....

I did take control quite soon ,...And found the moods lifted quite quickly.....distractions for yourself & lots of treats early on ......keeps you going ,,& posting on here.....You will do it. Just ride it through , You be surprised :)

good luck

I am finding it very hard too!

Hi fairy

I know exactly how you feel. I also gave up very easily when i was pregnant and didn't smoke again until my son was 2 years old and even then only smoked during social occasions. However, it didn't take me long to become a full blown addict again. My son is now 4 years old and i am desperately trying to give up for his sake but I am finding it so difficult this time. My last fag was 6 pm Wed and I am going 'cold turkey'. I am having terrible mood swings and generally feel absolutely depressed and crap. I probably would have given in tonight but i had a couple glasses of wine and couldn't drive to the local garage to buy any ciggies! I don't even feel pleased with myself that i didnt give in, all i can think about is taking a drag. However, i know ive got to stay strong as having a terminal disease would be worse than the feeling ive got now!! Keep going, think of your kids and your lungs!!

Great reasons to stop smoking even if its not for yourself. Welcome to forum, Fairy :)

I too quit through willpower/cold turkey. Didn't have the same pressures as you what with having 3 kids to deal with. You mention that other methods don't help you, but I wondered whether you had tried Allen Carr and his Easyway to stop smoking? A couple of quits ago I read his book and had the easiest quit going and barely any issues that you mention. The fact that it was too easy ultimately led to me starting up again. But that would have been due to not being aware of this forum or other sites, all of which give excellent information on stopping and staying stopped.

Here's a link to Allen Carr's Scandal which is available as a free download. A few quitters have used this resource and/or the Easyway to get over that first hump and as far as I know they are now successful ex-smokers.

Hope things work out for you,

Cav

Finding auto parts stores online is considerably easier now. Check this out!

I suspect that this wasn't the help that Fairy was looking for...tut!

You never know, Gaynor. Why not pop on his links and see what else can help. Whilst you're there pick me up a In-Car airfreshener...it's my sister's b/day soon  :)

I'm not sure I can comment too much on this post...

I gave up with NRT and my moods were absolutely fine, in fact I was on such a high for the first few weeks....

I really admire those that can give up CT, to me that takes real strength...

Hi Fairy, i got 3 little kiddles too :D and a very very good reason to quit, looking back i think how selfish i must have looked in the kids eyes and i don't want them to view me that way. Quitting is easy it6's the staying quit tht is the tricky part. Once over the rough ride you won't think about it - it's great!

Keep busy, stay on here, post loads, read about lung cancer etc etc make yourself totally against smoking, love your newfound health and focus on the positive, what you give out you get back.

Lots of luck.
