So, Ive tried so many ways to give up in the past and nothing works - this time I am going to try an App on my Iphone - has anyone tried this kind of thing before? Its only a couple of £'s so not much outlay - but is designed to help me reduce and then stop. Im going to give it a go and see how I get on.....Anyone else tried this kind of thing and been successful?

Hi ML - haven't tried that app but hey, give it a go and give some feedback how it goes. For sure it will do no harm.
Hello,
I'm currently using:
My Last Cigarette App
...and
Max Kirsten's Hynotherapy App
I love 'em.
Like Karri said, anything's worth a try!
Best wishes with your quit
Steve

If I may make an observation, there is no easy option. No app is going to stop you from lighting up, the only thing that will is you.
There is only one way to stop smoking and its simple, it just requires you to not put them in your mouth, light them and inhale. What is hard is getting through the 3 weeks of physical withdrawal and learning how to not want to smoke thereafter.
Smoking is a choice, how to develop the resolve to resist temptation is best done by understanding the addiction and trying to let go of the idea that smoking is some kind of pleasure, hobby, reward etc. In reality you are not giving up anything you are regaining health, wealth and control, so look on it as a positive thing rather than a sacrifice. Its just putting a little spin on the whole process but if you make a concious decision to think differently then it becomes a great deal easier to achieve your goal.
Try looking through the links in my sig, there are a couple of free online quitting programmes and also some good information resources from which to arm yourself with knowledge.
Best wishes
Nic
Aw thanks for the replies guys - some great advice in there. I know its down to me - I guess, like everyone, Im just looking for anything that will somehow make it "easier" - but there is no easy way right lol?
So far the SmokeAlarm app has been pretty useful. And its showed me how much money ive saved. Im opting for cutting down rather than just quitting - definitely smoked less yesterday by only smoking at the advised times. Sounds a bit lame I know, when so many people just give up all in one go...but hopefully this will work for me this time round.
I love the idea of having the little alarm go off on my phone - its like having a constant little voice in my hed giving me encouragement.
Good luck to everyone on their journeys and ill let you know if this works lol x
Good luck, and seriously knowledge is power. If you know how the drug works and what to expect while quitting then its a lot easier.
Have you tried reading Allen Carr's Easy way to stop smoking. I found it useful, but hated the repetitive writing style however many people found it to be great.

I'm reading that now (well, listening actually).
I actually quite like the repetition...I find it kinda hypnotic in a way, in as much as you know what he's going to say before he says it, which reinforces the points he's making.
Either way, the important thing is that we find it useful
Best wishes,
Steve
Hi GUys
Yes Ive tried Allens Carrs book - worked for a bit but then i went back to it - not proud of that lol! Ive been using that smoke alarm app for nearly a week now and actually i really quite like it. Havent quit completely yet - but it has massively helped me cut down. I really like the idea of having a smoke when the alarm goes off lol - Im a simple creature. Better still though I like looking at the app and seeing how much money ive saved so far (im going to start putting it in a jar so I can reward myself with something nice) - and i like watching the graph go down.
So ive saved £19.50 as of this morning - which is quite good in 5 days i think - its also helped me identify that i smoke more in the mornings and evenings than i do for the rest of the day. Ive just discovered it has a hotspot thing on it too - which beeps when i get close to a place that i usually smoke in i.e. the pub, my friends house etc. Ive just set them up so ill see if they keep my will power up to not smoke there - will keep you all posted
Good luck to everyone giving up - cant wait to be free of this and richer lol
You could always start today Louise. It's not that bad after the first few days, honestly. The physical withdrawal takes about three days, after that it's all psychological. Three days, that's all, and it's nowhere near as bad as a proper injury, for instance, and nowhere near as long.
