Good Morning to you, I personally think smoking is like our first Love, when it ends we are devastated and spend the rest of our lives mourning that first taste of Love that was snatched so cruelly away from us.

But then one day we are out shopping or in a pub or where ever and who is there right in front of us, yes that first all encompassing person who was our first Love.

Your eyes meet and you are floored OH no not for the reasons you think, but because we realise we are we are no longer madly in Love with them, and we also realise that all those years of missing them were for what, you don’t even fancy them any more in fact you don’t know what you saw in them in the first place.

So then you will realise you are happy with the new life you have chosen and don’t really want to go back to the old one for anything do you well think about it he stunk and made you stink he made you poor and so dependent on him would you want that life back again.

So now at last you are released from the chains of his love and can now find yourself a new Love and move on it will be so much more rewarding I promise xx

Oh and PS congratulations on your 98 day quit so brilliant.

I still miss it at times. I do think it's more association than anything though. Certain times of the day bring the 'want' back but it is getting easier to recognise it for a 'romantic memory/want' than a real need.

The urge/miss/want when it comes is becoming easier to recognise for what it is and dismiss with a flick of the hand and barely a thought.

For me, I will always miss it on some level, but that's something I can live with. Better to miss it occasionally and lightly than still be smoking :)

Thanks for all your responses.

I had such a MASSIVE crave yesterday - nearly lost my quit. I was hanging on by a thread. Later I looked back through my journal and realised I've only been off the nicotine gum since Thursday 22nd April - less than a fortnight. So I guess my body and mind are having a hard time adjusting to life without nicotine. Having got this far I'm determined to stay NRT free now. I'm re-reading Allen Carr's book and being patient.

Anyway - it helps to know I'm not alone in this - in fact one of my mantras which I repeat to myself in difficult moments is "11 million people have quit - how hard can it be?"

I've been off the patches for a week. It is hard isn't it. I too am reading and rereading Allen Carr.:) You are most definately not alone.:)
