I'm coming to the end of day 17, cold turkey, been reading a lot on here which has helped enormously.
But seriously - when does the ravenous hunger stop??!! I was ill for the first week, i think 'smokers flu', so didnt have much of an appetite. Since then i've been hitting the gym a bit more than usual as it helps with the cravings and reinforces the ''Healthy Me'' motives ......BUT i am so hungry all the time, has anyone else had this, and if so, when did it stop?? I'm drinking loads of water and herbal tea so i know its not dehydration.
Don't loiter near me, i might stick a fork in you.....

OK quick response...
It takes a while....smoking is an appetite suppressed so it is normal to eat more....it will calm down....eventually
Wow, how are you losing weight as well?? I havent put any on yet, which is the name of the game for me, its one of my classic excuses to give up quitting - gaining weight really freaks me out....
Firstly well done on your fab quit, your doing really well!!!
Secondly the hunger thing will pass, I felt the need to eat tremendous amounts when I came off patches, but tried to limit it to healthier stuff, you probably will gain a little… buuuut this can be down to your metabolism settling down, don’t worry it will come off again! I’m at the stage on 5 months where I have been coming down for the last month or so weight wise.
Whatever you do don’t see it as a permenant thing….(and an excuse to get back on the death sticks!
Just ride with it, try and eat sensible foods mainly…. It’s a no brainer, if you stuff yourself with fruit and veg you’ll put on less that if your eating 10 Gateaux’s a day….
Later in the quit you’ll have oodles more energy as I’m finding now, and exercise is a pleasure…so I’m doing loads more of it… cycling, walking, etc…
Hi Azz I ate for England when I first quit in fact ate so much rubbish I put on ten pound in the first few weeks and then had bloods done and cholesterol had soared but 3 and a half months on have lost the excess weight I put on and appetite has gone back to normal so it’s all relevant to the quit and although I am not allowed fats or choccy which believe it or not that has been harder than the cigs any day all I want is choccy all day every day so quit doesn’t seem too bad LOL but whatever weight you put on you will lose and like you I had a massive fear of weight gain but alls ok so keep the quit going you will feel so much better xx
How? I had a week of soup and water only not though choice but apart from that i loose weight easily. Alcohol puts the fat on so i've stopped drinking. I'd rather be deprived of the things i love than become fat and unhealthy yuk.
Oh Golly, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i couldn't stop eating at first due to constant hunger.....The appetite. It's calmed down a bit at nearly five months, but not after i have put on at least two stone... (i daren't weigh self, but am the fattest ever! ) But it's worth it to be a non smoker and free. It will come off when i've the addiction thing licked.
I've tried to quit lots of times before and the thing that became instrumental to me getting over the 6 week mark has been this support site, its incredibly fab to realise that your not on your own and be able to share successes and rants with people who know exactly how you feel about it!
Keep on reading, posting and ranting where necessary... its a winner.
...oooh this is a big worry for me because I've already put on 2 kilos and feel really bunged up as well as hungry. Not giving up giving up, but need to knock the weight gain on the head now or I will find it really difficult to lose further down the line. I too am drinking loads of water and am walking my dog and swimming more to try to counteract the lowering of metabolism and increased appetite and difficulty going to the loo - but it's not working yet! I feel like I'm doing all the right things but my clothes are getting tighter by the second - aaggggghhhhhh!
i can recommend a couple of things for the loo-situation, psyllium husk in capsules or powder, and linseeds either whole or powder - both available from holland and barret (i dont work for them!!!) - both wonderful for......shall we call it .....digestive transit
Well done Azz,i am not far behind you but like you all i do is eat,eat and eat.I am sitting here feeling very greedy 'cause i have just scoffed two ham cobs followed by a toffee muffin, and a cream egg.I wouldn't mind but i don't think i was really that hungry, just needed to eat something.Still the way i see it nobody is going to make me stand outside in the pouring rain if i fancy a cake.
But seriously - when does the ravenous hunger stop??!! I

Hi there,
Ha ha ... A stone heavier and 3 months later my appetite is starting to moderate and go back to how it was before I quit. I just have to lose the stone now!! I am starting to walk to work and taking up running again so i am hoping to be rid in time for bikini days!!
I would just go with the hunger for the first few months ... food is a great help when you are craving. i ate a lot of crap in the first month to be honest, cakes etc and have slowly cut that down to more healthy options like more fruit and yoghurts etc but still in large quantities! This has slowly now gone down to a decent appetite level .. some days are still ravenous but I just go with it as it is better than reaching for a ciggie.
You will know when you are ready to start curbing the eating ... just replace any calorific meals with salad type stuff and carry on eating the same amount of times/quantity of food for a while .. you will start to crave less food as you are tricking your calorie intake - still gorging but on less calories!!
Don't worry too much ... you will find people are quite kind about it when they know you have quit smoking and try and make out you look better with a bit more weight ha ha!!
BTW ... open packet of biscuits in the office and I haven't touched one!!

Hi do you mean "how" did I put the weight on when I stopped, well I will be honest every time my hand went near my mouth it had food in it LOL and I kept eating all the things that I had never bothered with before like Choccy and Crisps, but I am now back down to 8 stone which is were I was at start of quit, but I still crave choc and crisps I just dont eat them now.
I so so miss them though and cant see why quitting smoking was easier than giving up the choc LOL so thats how I put the weight on after my quit.
But as I said it as in the need to eat and I want call it hunger because I dont think it is but it does pass and you will lose the weight cause the metabalism will go back to normal after your body realises you are staying quit.
