I thought I'd share this link, which is basically a "sofa to 5k in 8 weeks" running guide. So if you think you're cr*p at running this should sort things out.
I've always gone to the gym during my smoking days but skirted round the treadmill as I wasn't my fitness weapon of choice aka my legs were still going and my lungs weren't.
Anyhoot, this link makes 5k easy. (can't believe I just said easy, but you know what I mean).
Hope some of you get some motivation from it.

This is a brilliant thread. Especially now the weather is improving, why should we spend our sweat and tears "giving up the smokes" money for expensive gyms when we can do this training for free.
I did wonder should i come off the no smoking forum and head straight for the runners forum lol
But no i could still lapse and i want to give others inspiration to stop the big bad dirty habit.
That running stategy looks good but i'd have to agree with the above i skipped on a few weeks. The run until out of breath was my method too. I think that running is the best sport for anyone who has quit the fags.
Thanks Sarah - seeing my name plus the word "brilliant" in the same sentence is rare and always welcomed!
I know what most of you mean about skipping the first few weeks, I think the first few weeks are designed for people that haven't actually left the house for some time.
I'm loving my running now and run a mile to the gym, do my workout and run back home again. It's a nice run, posh part of London, no main roads and no cars hooting or any of that carry on.
Polster...you run there to actually work out and then bck again?! wow... well done to you.. You must be feeling fab. When i smoked (and it was alot) i could barely manage to walk a small hill without wheezing coughing and puffing and having no energy whatsoever.
My first run which was on day 2 was good but at the sametime awful, glad i went because i'm now getting into it and loving the freedom in my lungs.
Running is the new black - fags are soooo last season darling!
I've always gone to the gym during my smoking days but skirted round the treadmill as I wasn't my fitness weapon of choice aka my legs were still going and my lungs weren't.
That was also my problem - lots of juice left in the legs but lungs could not hack it! Actually shocked myself by running 2k on my first run this week, lungs were still going strong but legs giving up - felt really weird!! Good weird
Thanks for the link Polster - I need some kind of plan so I can tackle the 10K charity run I'm aiming for in July
