Allow me to introduce myself.

my name is "azman" and I'm trying like hell to give up smoking.

I hate it (Smoking that is) I'm now 38, and I've been smoking since I was about 16. I "gave up" for about the 3rd time on saturday night.

"so why's he posting in day 1?" I hear you ask....

I just messed up, and smoked a fag i found in my coat pocket. without thinking, i just picked it up, and lit it....

Damn that felt bad, so i guess tomorrow is day one again. :(

Hey Azman

Don't beat yourself up over it, I'm on day 10 today and I know I'd struggle if I found one too. My quit slipped simply because I had a few left and couldn't bring myself to bin them or give them away. I made sure I none left anywhere and then started with patches.

It's been pretty easy so far, but I often find myself about to go out for a smoke before realising I don't smoke anymore. As you say yourself, I imagine if I found one the natural thing to do would be smoke it. Just glad I've had a real good clear out.

All the best buddy...

Hi Azman

Welcome to the forum!

Don't worry about your slip - been there got the T shirt as they say! :D Learn the lessons and get rid of everything and anything, it is quite amazing how the mind works and if you leave anything around you will soon be tormented by it.

I hope you get straight back on the wagon, and wish you every success.

You will find lots of lovely people and support in here - just keep telling us how you are doing.

Best wishes.

Actually you did something really great, (keep thinking of the positives). You may have had a slip up, but did you rush out and buy another pack? using the slip as an excuse to abandon your quit? No. You continued with your quit and that says a lot. It says you really want this and that's a good sign.

Hang in there, you can do it. We all can do it.

Hi. I agree, you have tried again which is brilliant. I had to throw all of my smoking gear away and make my husband hide his. Even now after a year I still pat down old coats wondering if there are old forgotten smokes in there! (not that i'd ever light up again I might add) I suggest you use the forum and read some of the links to start you off on the right mental track. :)

Hi, the trick that I found with quitting smoking, is to not fight the addiction but just accept that this is your last cigarette, and this is something you dont want to do.. the mind will accept that,, but it wont accept you fighting against it.. good luck..

Azman - hello and welcome to the board. And congratulations for that - its a signal and start to giving up smoking.

I agree with the others - don't beat yourself up over the one - it was a blip. So just continue one day at a time.

There are great messages on here by some great supportive people. Read as much as you can.

This link out of Marg's signature helped me tremendously.

Thanks for the welcome and your kind words.

Day 1(6) is going well, noone's died, but my teeth are starting to hurt with gum chewing. And when my bus finally turns up, the driver might get a withering look. But that's par for the course.

Mind you I now have lots of links to read while I wait...

One good thing that's come from my little slip is.. I've been able to proudly join the March for freedom group, rather than slinking in through the back door of the Febuary group like a late guest at a funeral.

Welcome.

Hi Azman and welcome to the forum,

I can only repeat what has gone before. Clear away all smoking paraphenalia and ciggies. Tell yourself that this is it, "I have smoked my last fag".

I am into day 16 and I am finding that it isn't the craving (which have been mild) but the triggers which are likely to catch you unawares. That is why it is so important not to have any cig's within reach.

Keep up the determination to succeed, we are all behind you, You can be sure that there are plenty of people willing to offer their help and advice.

Good luck.

Good Evening all I have just been reading through the posts and see all the good advice being given out and then I realise that you are all saying give or throw away your last cigs etc but in my quit I have kept the pack of baccy filters papers and a lighter in the house as I know if I had None and had a crave I may be tempted to go out and buy some where as if they are there in the house there will be no panic, yes one day I will get rid but 9 weeks into my quit with a couple of things that would normally have sent me running and screaming for a cig I am still quit and with not even a minute part of me wanting or needing a cig so I am going to keep them for the time being LOL anyone want a quick rollup behind the bike sheds LOL
