A moment of quiet contentment ....

Ok maybe people may like to post on here and join me, if you've had a moment of quiet contentment to do with not smoking.

Mine was yesterday, I'd finished the weekly shop in the supermarket and was pushing the full trolley past the tobacco counter and thought - I dont have to stop there and spend even more money, no I dont. So I stopped, quite deliberately and just looked at all the people who were there queueing up to buy their fags. Good luck to them, that was me just over 3 months ago but not now and thats MY CHOICE. Wow - a bolt of lightening from above my head, MY CHOICE whey hey, are you there Zoziekins? BOING BOING BOING.

I just let that thought sink in for a bit and then I walked off, feeling I must say, a bit smug and walking very tall.

I must say that when I first quit I found it very difficult to believe it when I was told by "more senior" quitters, by which I mean more experienced quitters than me, not necessarily older!! that I would reach a stage where I would not be thinking about cigarettes all the time - but hey, its here, I'm at that stage. Sometimes I can go a couple of hours and suddenly realise I've not even thought about it. So my advice to newbies would be:- baby steps, commit to only I wont smoke for the next hour and when that feels ok, move onto I wont smoke today. Do whatever feels comfortable to you but your thoughts are what are driving you, be sure of that and we can control our thoughts, yes? Like Bob the Builder says YES WE CAN!! ;)

Lovely Post!

What a nice thought to start the day off with!

Also good work! It is nice to have moments like that, and I have had moments myself…. It’s a super chuffed feeling when I see the price of my ole smokeydokes, and I don’t have to pour that cash into the annual winter chest infections….. Yay!!!

I enjoy the panic on smokers faces when they realize that they cannot possibly have a cig for aaages due to situations or bans etc…. reason being is that I’m no longer there… not cos I’m a huge sadist! ;o)

I like going into the shop and spending enough for a loaf of bread, and not having to spend a notes worth of goods every time.

I’m noticing my skin is hugely better and more healthy looking, I enjoy walking in the woods with my dog as I no longer have to stop to pant, my eyes look clearer, my teeth brighter, my tongue…. My goodness its pink and not furry…. Delicious, My fingers don’t smell of stale tobacco

Thanks for this post Viv, its really made me reconsider and list all of the positives.

Its sleepy Boings today (mini) boing (mini) boing (mini) Boing……. Zzzzzzz *thud*

The list is now long and distinguished Vivienne!

I love the getting to the station, travelling 2 hours to London, getting on the tube, getting to my hotel and never once having to find that window to grab a quick smoke.

I love driving to Bristol, grabbing a swift beer before a show, an ice-cream in the interval, another beer afterwards and then home again without even thinking about a smoke.

It wasn't that long ago I would avoid going out so that I didn't have to suffer moments of fag panic.

Words can't really express how much better my and my family's life became once I became smoke free. :o

Thats fantastic austinlegro and makes great reading, thank you and well done for being quit for such a long while, a veteran!!

I think if I'm honest, I also used to avoid situations where I couldn't get my fix! Freedom, hey what price freedom!! Best wishes to you. :)

When I see people cowering in doorway in the frosty weather, I am so relieved that I don't do that anymore.

I love how fresh my skin looks now that the quitzits have subsided.

But I think my biggest moment of quiet contentment is sitting on the sofa watching a movie with the boys from start to finish with no darting off for a fag break.

Viv you are a love, what a great post.

What I love about non smoking is having control back. When I go into a meeting I am not the one suggesting we 'break' for coffee so I can run out for a fag whilst the others get a coffee.

I love the fact I can sit in a bar or restaurant and chat to my DH over a bottle of wine without going 'hold that thought' I'm off for a fag.

I love the fact that I will NEVER have to clean another sodding ash tray out in my life (I so hated that).

Loving your work viv xx:)

I'm really liking:

Not having my daughter see me smoking outside, i want my daughter to learn a great many lessons of life from me as any good parent should, but not that i smoked. She was one of my biggest reasons for giving up an i'm told that by now she won't even remember that i even smoked. That is my number one 'quiet contentment' :)

---------------

Recently went to see that awesome film 'Avatar'.. no jitters, no thoughts of 'need a smoke', and totally uninterrrupted.. when i used to got the cinema before i'd quit I would smoke 2 cigs before the film and be lighting another up the second i'd got out the cinema later.

Viv what a lovely post....

I love not standing round corners hiding my smoking from clients and apologising when they do find out.

Being able to choose from the world when it comes to holidays and not being limited by 4 hour flight time.

I wanted to be a non smoker and I am so so proud of myself for getting there.
