Day 3, finding it difficult

I've stopped a few times before but always found myself smoking again, this time I quit for health reasons after having a horrendous cough last week, also my dad died 12 months ago from emphysema.

I have gone cold turkey, I find it the easiest way, and this is the dreaded third day, I struggle on the third day, my mouth is screaming for a cig, my hands are screaming.......strangely enough, my head is saying, go away you filthy habit LOL!!

Ive got the  face on, and the dog is probably thinking, just go get a cig please! LOL

Just want to do it this time...for my dad :o

do it for you too! The third day is hard. You have the nicotine withdrawel and the mental triggers all nudging at you and telling you 'just' one wont hurt! Once youy get over this day you'll be over halfway to a week which will feel good. Try reading the tales from the quit, my link is on my sig. It helped me work through that first difficult period. And to be fair, still helps me now. Sorry to hear about you dad. I lost my mum to cancer when I was 9 and my dad at 21. Its rubbish I know xx

Thanks, Ive had a quick read of some of the pages of Tales from my quit, and bookmarked it!

I think my bottle of water is gonna slowly replace my cigs, better addicted to water eh? :)

Hey, I became addicted to this forum! Took up more time than my smoking ever used to! Waters great! Chocolates better, especially with easter round the corner.....

Slices of lemon i found to be excellent in the first week, and whenever after that.. or orange if you don't get on with lemon at all.

Give this quit time, its not all hard work thankfully and you will get better times further on in your quit. Your dog will eventually walk even closer to you rather than avoid the path you walk soon enough. :)

just stay true to your quit, you owe it to yourself.

I hate oranges and lemons, but I might have to buy a huge bunch of grapes!

Thanks, I am doing it for me too. I have quit before for finance reasons, this is the only time I have wanted to quit for my lungs sake. My dad is my inspiration.

Im off work this week, so the test will be next monday, first day back at work and all that......

Thanks everyone x

your reason's are the same as mine, losing a parent to that dreadful lung disease, and 3 weeks ago i had a chest infection and i could not breath had low oxygen levels ended up on oxygen in hospital it was very scary.

Thats when i thought about what i was doing to myself and knew it was now or never..

I'm only at day 23 today and its not been easy had little blip on day 21 :( but i didnt let it beat me..

Just think of your reasons why you want to quit.. read posts on here i find it a great help.. just keep going for yourself..:)

Ive been lucky, I've never had a chest infection, and I started smoking at 13......but luck doesnt last forever.

And that disease is something I don't want to experience!

Congrats on getting to day 3....just think when you get over today you will never never have to do day 3 again...I keep telling myself that even now.

Dont worry about going back to work, just concentrate on taking it a day at a time...the addiction makes you think all sorts of silly stuff, try and stay focussed on today and getting over each crave as it comes...everyone is a victory to celebrate. I still find being off work the hardest...

Good luck and stay strong....you can do this, for you
