Hi Karen, and welcome to the forum. Would love to give you loads of great advice about Champix, but can't! I didn't use it myself, but I am sure lots of people will be by soon to let you know how they felt.

I just wanted to say and welcome, have a good look around and read the links in others signitures it really will help.

Good luck with your quit and let us know how you are getting on.

Hi Zak, have you cut down by using Champix? Do the cigarettes taste awful yet? Champix helps with the cravings but it does not take them away altogether. Day 28 for me and I could murder a ciggie at times!!!

You still need strong will power, you can stay on Champix until day 14 before you quit so just make sure you stop when you feel you can.

Good luck

Hi Karen - it was the 13th day on Champix before I had a smoke free day - and that was thirteen days ago (14 at 11.15pm tonite). I'd cut down to about 3 and was worried I was immune to Champix but I'm not - you'll just decide not to bother smoking when you're ready.

Hi,

No I dont enjoy them as much and twice after having 1 I felt so sick I nearly passed out but just had 1 and feel fine. I had initially said it would be tomorrow that I would quit but after reading some other posts am not sure whether to leave it a couple more days? Or is this just where I need to use will power am I expecting too much?

Thanks

Karen

Hi karen

I quit on Champix. I found it great, but it's not the whole picture. For me there wasn't a great moment when I went 'off' cigarettes. You've got to stop putting cigarettes in your mouth and lighting them. Sometimes you'll just do it out of habit, rather than because you want/crave one. Try to cut out the 'habit' ones. I did that and quit after Day 13 on Champix. Let us know how you get on.

Good luck

Sue

:)Hi Karen

Welcome to the site.

Champix is great but relax and let it do its thing. Dont sweat it if you are not ready today. I wanted to stop on day 9 and wasn't ready, then set day 12 and stopped on day 11 because I just did not want one.

Good luck and let us know how you go....

Hi Karen :D

I also used champix and found it really good and a huge help if you don't feel ready to stop smoking tomorrow then don't

Carry on for a day or so you'll know when you're ready to stop OK it does take a little longer for some and a few have even gone slightly over te 2 weeks recommended so don't woory about it OK

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathising with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here

are 2 I found very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com

Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quitting whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Thank you

Thank you for all your advice, Ive decided to still keep my quitting day today. So far so good, my partner is also stopping so we ripped them all up before bed last night and it didnt even worry me! Still keep feeling like I should be nipping out of work for 1 but think its just habit as Ive spent the last 20 years planning my next 1. But NO MORE it feels very liberating!

Well done karen - I found the first day at work with a pack with me very odd. Just not having them didn't feel right, but it does now :) Stay with it. the Champix kills the craving for nicotene 'all' that's left is the habit part of it - the feeling 'I should be having a smoke now' thing, and you can get past that. Well done to you (and your partner).

Hi Karen

I was in the same boat as you - thought that cx wasn't going to work for me and was worried about keeping to my quit day (which was day 9). I stuck to my quit date and haven't looked back. 10 days without smoking so far. As Cyprien quite rightly says, you have to stop putting them in your mouth.

Good luck, and welcome to the De Novo group.

Hi Karen

Well done on your first day. It really does help if your partner is giving up at the same time. Keep strong and keep posting it really does help.

Hope you have a really smooth quit.

That's great. The 'munchies' is normal. Try to find something satisfying but not tooooooooo calorie-intensive to munch on.

It gets easier, just have faith in Champix that it will do its bit and have strength in your own ability to do your bit

Hi Karen

I was impatient, too. But, like Sue, I had no big 'moment'. My doctor told me to set a quit date, and as it approached, I found a was smoking a little less (but not a lot less) but I really wasn't getting anything from it. As Sue says, you have to just do it -- make the commitment to quit.

Go for it.

cheers
