YAY - One month and I bring . . . .

Wine, chocolates, freshly ground coffee and coffeecake (for Sue) and, as I’m sure some of you really don’t want all the lovely but not so healthy stuff, some kefta and humus, olives and med bread.

Also, for those about to, or thinking of, embarking on a keep fit plan, I also bring a skipping rope, boxing gloves, roller blades, trampoline and my bike (which needs both tyres patching up please and then I'll take that back ;) as I'm planning on using that once I get some lights unearthed from the depths of the garage)

It’s been quite a journey to get to this stage and one I'm strongly recommending myself to never have to begin again.

When I said yes to some dental work of my own instigating back in mid Sept I was told that as a smoker the work could be done but it’s chances of success were increased by not smoking for an 8-week period. I knew I wanted the work done so decided that I would take the proverbial bull and go for it. A little voice in my head saying, “If you can manage this 8 week period – why can’t you keep going”? My other louder voice retorted “Whooooa, one hurdle at a time”

One hurdle? I feel I’ve jumped and stumbled my way over hundreds of the things in the last 23 days of not smoking but I am feeling, finally, that every stumble over the hurdles and mood swing, slamming of doors, grouchy stares at the family and flicking of the V’s behind their backs was worth every moment to have got this far. It's my quit and it's becoming enjoyable and mine now to control.

I will go smoke free for the 8 weeks required – then I will attempt to continue, one day at a time and I feel quietly confident that I can do this. I’m just not committing in a commitment sort of way ;)

Thank you for this site and it’s great support network. It’s been far better than my one to one nurse attached with my Dr Surgery. She does not accept risk and tells me it will be my down fall. The risk? Stopping my patches. I couldn't stand the smell that came from my pores. Nor did I enjoy the disturbed nights the higher dose ones gave me. The dreams were fine, vivid, interesting if not a little surreal at times.

16hr mid dose patches kept me going fine but as well as the smell of nicotine, I just don’t want nicotine in my system any more… ever….. 8 weeks or ….. we’ll see…. Ever possibly hopefully

My weight did increase in the second week by 6lbs and that was something I was not prepared to let continue happening. I've changed to black decaf coffee as I had started to substitute smoking with dozens of coffees a day. It was getting out of hand as I was swinging from the light shades. I've cut out chocolate as a comfort and I'm back to my normal eating but with increased exercise. I do very little..... actually I don't do any once the logs have been cut down to size and stacked.

I'm going to clear the leaves off the trampoline and get bouncing - I need and have to make this quit mean something other than just stop smoking - it's a lifestyle change and there's more to change and gain from now. It's bringing back lot's of positivity and wants and knowledge that I can gain in many ways.

Rambling now................... bye for now :)

You OctoQuits!!!! I don't know!!!! On the whole a bunch of wine guzzling, chocolate munching party goers - excellent :D

All the food and drink vanished really quick, didn't see anyone skating around or having a bounce on the trampoline ;)

I've now not allowing myself any indulgent food treats as substitutes, only reward for each complete week smoke free, so that takes care of the weekends.

I have upped my exercise by having 15 mins a day on the trampoline (sat, sun and today). I could notice a difference my lungs which was a very pleasant surprise.

See you all very soon in Month 2 - now, who was it that mentioned the real Baileys is on offer at Tesco?

Marg, sorry to hear your feeling under the weather with a cold, hope it clears up in time for your big ONE YEAR CELEBRATION :D

Ozzy, you are pretty close. My son is somewhere in Bristol at Uni - we were down your neck of the woods recently, feeding him, poor starving (yet drinking) student

KT, you know Glos then? Good or bad?

Hope everyone is well and feeling proud of themselves and taking control of their quit
