Very depressed...

Crying has been happening. A lot this morning.

I have a history of depression and take medication on which I am generally absolutely fine. I am a bit worried that being so down now threatens my quit. Does anyone have a similar experience. Might this pass? I really don't want to deprive myself of the benefits of being someone who doesn't smoke.

As well as the non-smoking thing I have just lost someone who was effectively my closest (in terms of regular contact and hanging out together) mate to an intense love affair. This kind of my loss because of the other party's gain situation is something I find hard to deal with and it is particularly so in this case because I liked him, but he didn't want to be more than friends. I miss all the texts and emails and beers and stuff.

Just in case anyone thinks I am just wallowing, I do keep telling myself I am doing really well and how great finding it comfortable not having to smoke will be.

KT

YOU ARE NOT WALLOWING

O.k. your on week 3, unfortunately some of us (me included) suffered from the 3's, also known affectionatly by day 3, week 3, month 3. Someone will be along soon enough to confirm this I am sure.

You are not being silly, I cried non stop trust me ask anyone on this forum or the poor guy who I share on office with (i think he is still in the bar I have turned him to drink).

You already suffer from depression so the terrible 3's isnt going to help you, but you are strong and you will get through this.

We are all here for you, and we all will listen when you want to have a shout.

As for your friend - its their loss and they will soon come running once the love affair goes tragically wrong and maybe you wont be around then cos you will be a super fit non smoker.

The whole purpose of this forum is to speak to people who are going through or have been through the same thing and we are tough, strong people - have a sneaky look in the penthouse at the amount of people in there, then look at their earlier threads and you will see no one has had an easy ride (and if they say they did then they are lying).

Keep smiling and Keep posting and here is some PMA just for you.

Take care

Thanks Jayne

I shall keep re-reading your post every time I fear I am going to go under completely. I so don't want to lose this quit. I just need to conquer the depression.

Hi KT, you're doing amazingly and you are much stronger than you think, after all, you have come this far :)

I have evenings when I cry non stop, I suffer from really bad PMT and whether I was a smoker or not, every month, for a few days, I am emotional and depressed. As for your friend, sometimes people don't realise that what they are looking for is right in front of them!

try and have a pampering evening with a long hot bath with essential oils, some music and a glass of wine, followed by an uplifting movie :)

hope you feel better soon xx

Hi Kt,

Believe me it will pass. you have a choice now - it will pass with you still as a non-smoker or it will pass with you having reverted back and being a smoker again.

Smoking will have nothing to with the outcome -other than you'll have to go through all this again.

Be strong. Focus on getting through each day as a non-smoker.

Friendships will sort themselves out. Just think about yourself and not you are a part of someone/something else.

Be strong

Sue

If it's any help KT I too have a history of depression, and one of the things that made me want to stop was that apparently smokers are much more likely to suffer from depression and other mental health probs. I'll try and find a link. It can't be good to poison your brain with all those chemicals, plus the nutritional deficiencies it causes.

I understand there's a rebound depression though when you give up, not only are you losing a "friend" in a way, nicotine is a stimulant (like cocaine) so you're giving up an upper, so withdrawal will feel depressing while the brain readjusts.

Sorry if I've said this before anywhere, but Patrick Holfords book, "how to quit without feeling shit" is good, for the supplement and nutrirional approach, plus a really strong mega multi vit (Does help, honest)

There are the terrible threes for some indeed, and I too have been diagnosed in the past with depression. Counselling showed a contributing factor was my loss of my effective mental time out I used to get when I was an addict. Learning to do one nice thing for myself a day overcame a lot of it. I've learn't that lots, though not all, of the craves and lows can be dealt with in a practical matter. And for me, having a logical solution helped/helps me think myself out of alot of those lows. It will pass. I promise you. x

I was aware that doing smoking is now thought to cause as well as be away of coping with depression. That was one of the reasons why I decided to give up. The main factor was the way the leperisation of people who smoke was getting me down.

I have been a bit naughty and gone for a drink with he who has fallen in love (alas not with me) to talk about the problems he is having with his new besottee.

Fortunately drinking booze does not make be crave :D
