Hi Krizzy

Well done for making this decision, I dont know much about patches but Jase does and he will be along soon. We all know what you are going through and the first 3 days were the worst for me. I spent them telling myself to give it 15 mins and see how I felt then. Thats how I got to day 4 which was a great day.

Feel free to come on here and shout and rave at us, and read all our stories and links cos I wouldnt have made it without these guys

Hi Krizzy,

Welcome to the 'club'. We've all felt that giving up was impossible at times, but it's not. You need to be committed, educate yourself about smoking and addition, read everything, be prepared that it's not going to be easy all the time, and remember that you can do it and there is a wonderful reward at the end of the process.

I didn't use patches, I used Champix, a prescription drug which lessens the nicotine cravings. Many people have quit successfully with this. There's lots of information on here about it.

Ask any questions - someone will have been there. Good luck, keep posting and reading.

hi there :)

hey good for you for making this decision to quit, you've chosen your method of quit (patches) and are already on the road to recovering from the hold that nicotine has had on you for many years. (far too many i hear you !!!)

Ok so you're using patches, the same method i chose to quit.. and guess what? they do work (i quit smoking using them and i'm already over 3 months quit now), but they work so much better if you read up alot on what you are actually quitting. Nicotine addiction is beatable, and even if you have friends who said they tried to quit and failed.. this doesn't mean you will fail to. In fact you'll probably succeed just nicely.

So DAY 1 you are at, the most important day of your quit, well done you :)

Check out all our signatures under our posts for some really useful reading material... don't swamp yourself too much but read some of it when you feel comfortable, and when you get cravings, try some of them tips in that link in my signature for dealing with cravings.. particularly the deep breathing tip which worked for me.

Good luck for today, and for the days ahead. For now, just focus on the day you are in at the time.
