hi everyone i am new to the forum and just looking for a bit of advice?
last year i used zyban and found it really great however only gave up for about 4 days as i just wasnt ready to quit and had absolutely no will power!
i am ready to quit now and the doctor gave me champix this time, started on it last week but couldnt deal with the sickness so stopped after 3 days!
went back to the doctors and she gave me anti nausea tablets to take 3 times a day along with the champix, i wanted zyban but she seemed to think champix would be more successful, the problem is i know zyban worked for me before and really think i will be able to quit if i use zyban this time!
what do you guys suggest? should i start on the champix again?
any help would be greatly appreciated thankyou so much

I tried Zyban once but it did nothing for me....... probably because I was not wanting to quit back then. Then Champix came along and a lot of people on the forum have been successful with it. There are side effects though and plenty of people discontinue using Champix because of them.... so maybe you fall in that group?! If you've tried it and it's not working for you, I'm sure your doc will look into other alternatives such as Zyban. Good luck with your quit!
I tried Champix and had a bad reaction to it, the patches the same. I also have quit cold turkey. But with Zyban, there is no urge, or cravings. The only time I think about having a cigarette is when I have idle time, but I have found ways to keep myself buusy doing other things. Thanks to Zyban- it's a great medication that really works!
Dunaway as advised in a previous post that was 6 years old, this one is also 8 years old and no longer active, can you please create a new introductory post and share your story, how long you are stopped etc.... I am going to turn off replying in both posts you have replied in....
Hi Lilviks....welcome to the forum and congratulations on your decision to quit I gave up with Champix with no probs other than nausea when taking the tabs...eating with the tabs seemed to stop the nausea....I have been quit for over 2 months now and highly recommend Champix....having said that I know they do make others quite ill!!
If I were you....I would go back to the doctors and talk to her about it.....it is a big decision and its only natural you want to do it right ....so good luck and keep us informed...Cheers Kez.
I quit using Champix and think it's fantastic - but it's not for everyone. At one extreme, there have been recorded problems of depression, disturbed behaviour and suicidal tendencies, but more usually there are more minor side effects of nausea, vivid dreams. I've never taken Zyban but understand it has had its fair share of unwelcome side effects too.
If your only problem with Champix is nausea why not think positive and give it a go. Most people find the nausea can be overcome (or at least reduced) by always taking the tablet after you've eaten.
Well done you deciding to stop smoking a huige decision in itself
I really can't help re Zyban as I never used it at all and know next to nothing about it
I used champix and found it really good and now that the Dr has given you sone antisickness tabs to help I think you should be OK with it
Eat before you take it though and use plenty of water to wash it down OK
If the nausea persists go back to the Dr again because as I'm sure you now no drug suits everyone
Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

thank you so much everyone you are all so lovely, ive started taking the champix again with the anti nausea tablets and not felt sick once touch wood! so going ok so far, only on day 3 of taking the tablets tho. but ive managed to cut down as well to around 6 or 7 a day i know that probably still sounds a lot but im not finding it too hard so far which is good!
thankyou again for all your replies and support really hope i can actually do it this time xxx
zyban are really good, but for the first 2 weeks you do get side affects,
everyones side affects vary but here is a quick list of mine
week 1
smoking 25 fags a day
3rd day on zyban felt a bit weepy but didnt no why.
was alright the following day.
had difficulty in sleeping, never felt tired
had a few pains in my neck but nothing that put me off taking the zyban.
was now down to smoking 5 fags a day
week 2
now on 2 tablets a day , feeling a bit spaced out, feeling very calm almost to calm , now only 1 fag a day.
on 4rd day of week 2 i just didnt feel like a fag and i havent had one since.
you have to take your second tablet before 6pm if you want to sleep.
apart from feeling a bit like im floating about i feel ok .
my hubby still smokes around me but it dont make me feel like i want one.
all my cravings have gone completey,
doc said i still have to take these tablets for 9 weeks , but to be honest i dont think i need them any more , but doing as doctor says.
zyban not as bad as people make out. they do stop you smoking if taken right, and you have to try and put up with the side affects, they only last two weeks.
I used Zyban for 6 weeks, one week before stopping and 5 after. I stopped taking it because I found it made me feel " a bit wobbly".Now gone over a week without and feeling OK
Can't speak for Zyban, but am now into my 7th week of Champix. Not had a fag since 25 November, My longest fag break ever..!
Side effects? There are some but I don't think they're all bad, and in any case might be caused by Nicotine withdrawal rather than the pills themselves..
Nausea - Feel really queasy for about an hour after my morning tablet.I've got used to it now..
Dreams - During my first couple of weeks of Champix I dreamt fit to bust. My metabolism seems to have adjusted so I don't dream so much now - I kind of miss it..
Itchy teeth - I imagine this is down to better blood oxygen to the gums waking up some nerve endings..?
Sex - Assume this is also a feature of better blood oxygen levels, but some other nerve endings have awoken too..!
y'all keep up the good work!
