So I made it to the second day...

Well, I'm officially in to the second day of this quit, and its not going too badly. Nearly fell last night, although its my own fault - I made this decision on my own without telling my family, and my poor wife, bless her, offered me one, not knowing. Held off though, and explained that I'd decided to stop and she's really pleased I'm trying again.

It may seem strange to some of you when I say that she's not stopping as well, but we've been there before. We are both very strong minded people, and, well the last and only time we both stopped at the same time, well, lets just say I wouldn't be married now had it carried on!

So she's supporting me as best she can, keeping it out of my face and keeping them away from me, which is all I really ask for.

Anyway, something weird I've noticed this morning is that I'm having real issues concentrating and focusing on my work. It's not that I'm craving, because I don't believe I am at the moment, but whenever I try to concentrate on anything for any length of time, I find my focus drifting really easily. Has anyone else had this? And any advice?

Also, I want to say thanks to everyone who replied to my thread yesterday, I really appreciate it :D

Good Luck to you all!

Rob

The whole concentration thing is part of the early days of withdrawal.. you may not be getting cravings in a craving sense, but your thoughts will be getting distracted alot likely over the next few days. I was exactly like this the first 5 days, but its just a phase of the quit.

Chewing gum worked for me here.. that new wrigleys gum is amazing.. especially the tropical pulse flavour.

Check out my signature for the craving advice though, these might not seem like craving but i wouldn't mind betting that link in my sig will help.

Keep always in mind, that you are doing something wonderful here.

keep this going, no matter how it goes.. just never take the easy way out. You'll be challenged along the way, but you can accept a challenge i'm sure.. and come through it shining.

Good luck, but i suspect you'll do just fine ;)

Hi,

I tried stopping several times with my husband and each time one or the other would spark off arguments in the hope the other would crack and go and buy fags so I get where you are coming from! This time I did it first, then he did it two months later. It was much better though I still got grumpy and it can be hard when you are having a craving seeing fags lying about though. I got my husband to hide his away.

Concentration was an issue for me too. I found it hard to go from splitting my day up on an hourly basis to normal mental breaks. In the end I spent a good few weeks taking a walk to the water cooler and having a drink at the time I would have smoked.

Hi Nibball :D

Well done you on day 2 just hang in there

Being unable to concentrate of focus is normal for lots of us at this early stage of a quit as is being emotional

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm encouraged to know that this lack of concentration is not unusual, although its not something I particularly remember from previous times I've tried to stop.

Anyway, today has been harder than yesterday, not because I've been desperate to smoke, I've thought about it a couple of times but nothing too bad so far, but the lack of concentration thing has really thrown me, its not something I was expecting at all, and it's really frustrating while I'm sitting here trying to get work done. It's not even like my mind is always drifting to cigarettes, its just going to nothing. Its like driving down the road and the car keeps jumping out of gear in to neutral.

Ahh well, its the weekend tomorrow, so hopefully I can spend that not concentrating very much and be more or less up to speed next week.

Hi, i'm on day six bye have been completely the same with lack of concentration. I don't think I've had one productive day at work this week, just been making myself look busy. Been same at home too, been staring blankly at tv and been v quiet, feels like i'm not all here? Best of luck for tomorrow!
