Hi all,

Thought I would say hello, I do not usually join things like this and have never posted anywhere about anything before!

I was reading some of the posts here and thought I would add to the "I'm in a bad mood" theme.

Things have generally been going fairly well with the inevitable pangs of desire for a smoke. I have tried several times before but feel that this time I have to make it stick, I am 55 now and have been smoking since 15 - varying amounts over the years - the last couple of years have been about 20 per day. Health suffering - not seriously thank goodness but it is time to make a change. I want to be able to enjoy my retirement when it arrives.

Anyway it has been good to read of some of the other peoples experiences and am sure it will help to come back here from time to time to help with trying to stick at it.

Best Wishes to all

Andy

Hi Andy and welcome. Firstly well done you for your first ever post, and very nice it was too:D you will find us a friendly lot here, well most of the time.

Bad mood, yeh join the club, oh ya did. the main thing is sticking to your guns, some days will be tough and some will be easier. you have done very well so far, and it sounds like you have some great reasons for wanting this.

So keep going and keep posting to let us all know how your doing.

Hi Andy and welcome to our family.

Well done on your month of stopping smoking. After our signatures we have some very good web sites dealing with the addiction to nicotine, reading about it all helps you to understand what is happening in your body and dispells the myths we have believed about smoking for so long.

Wishing you good luck

Jackie

Andy,

I know what you mean when you say 'I do not usually join things like this', but I think you'll quickly come to regard posting here as being an absolute lifeline when it comes to much needed encouragement.

The folk you bump into in the world may ask how your getting on etc, but many of them probably haven't got a clue what quitting smoking is like, and thats the difference with us lot.. you may not be able to see us like the folk you bump into when you nip out for your paper, or to work etc, but we are just normal every day folk much like yourself.. the guy next door, the couple down the road.. just normal people with one major thing in common.. we've decided that we are not letting this drug addiction (nicotine) rule our life any more.. so we're all just here whipping that into shape, and getting on with what we've set out to do.

We have good times, bad times and times where you wonder just how exactly are you today? but the key thing is.. you get through the days, and the longer you go into your quit, the better you feel about everything.

Don't worry at all about using these forums though, once get to know most folk, you will see for sure that you can be quite comfortable posting here.

Its none of that 'my name is Andy and i'm a nicotine addict stuff'... its just good healthy discussion and not always about quitting smoking.

have a rant, have a yarn.. but just be yourself and enjoy your visits here.

Hi all and thanks for the welcome and encouragement.

It is difficult to maintain the motivation to be nicotine free, as I'm sure you all know. One does not want to feel like a complete moaning minnie and bore ones friends, collegues and family to death so it is good to know that this forum is here to moan about it being hard work to stay off the fags.

Clearly the physical addiction to nicotine has passed now so all I have to deal with is about 40years of psychological addiction - easy huh!

regards to all

Andy

In truth Andy, its likely that it will cease to be as 'hard work' as you experience it at the moment, you may well go through periods where you hardly notice at all, and they are very welcome times indeed.

You will reach a point where you feel an overwhelming feeling of well-being.. and feel much more 'alive'.. like you've woken from a really restful sleep and really ready to deal with the day.

It's not too far in the future for you either, so persevere, stick at your objective to stay free of nicotine and the rewards will surely follow. Shame you can't just get a sample of it now.. would inspire you a great deal if you could.

Good luck, and welcome again.

Isn't it the most crazy crazy thing though, that smoking has had us believe that if we are not smoking that we are being boring, and not with the 'cool set'.

Thats total peer pressure right there... for years they dressed up smoking like it was some really acceptable activity when so******ing.. like it was.. the done thing... but none of them.. not one of the folk making an absolute fortune out of all the people they got addicted on their products would dare tell you the real harm it was doing.

We are doing a great thing here.. and even though you may feel bored, or boring.. or anything like that.. YOU are still quit from smoking and you will see things improve so much as the weeeks go by.. it won't happen over night, for some of us its more gradual, and some wake up one morning feeling absolutely on top of the world.. just got to be happy about such times when they occur for us really.

Good luck and welcome :)

Hi

Hi Andy, well done! I was so pleased when I stumbled upon this website, I don't generally get into forums and stuff but I love this idea because it gives us all an incentive to stay stopped. I especially love the idea of going up levels like The first day, first three weeks etc. (I shouldn't really be in this forum TILL MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!HOORAY, It will be 21 days so I think I officially get into this forum then:) You sound as if you have done exceptionally well as you are only on the occasional nicorette gum now. My method has been nicorette gum which I think I have started to reduce-(When I am asleep!:D)

Anyway, I find everyone very supportive and this forum is one of the best ideas yet.

Goodluck Andy and everyone, have a great weekend.
