Hi,

I am new to this forum and to any other forum to be honest.

I am on day 3 of my quit. I have been smoking for 30 years (ouch really hits home when you write it down)

Previous attempts have always failed - my longest lasted 3 months, last year, cold turkey - but I didn't go one day in the 3 months without missing smoking or feeling like crap (physical symptons).

I have tried

Alan Carr - failed

Cold Turkey - failed

patches - failed

This time round I am using Champix - so far I am very happy with it. Yes I suffer a little nausea and some weird dreams, but I have no cravings and feel I am only having to deal with the habit itself.

My husband is still smoking and even that is not bothering me. He has now booked to see a smoking advisor at his GP surgery later this month and wants to go on Champix himself - so even better!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello - I think forum will help along with the Champix and of course the willpower I have to put in. I dont mind admitting I need help - dont want to fail again!

Hi Mazwol,

Welcome to the forum! You should find plenty of others on here who've also experienced a couple of different attempts before finding their way to quit for good.

It sounds as though Champix and will power are you thing, so good luck! You sound very determined, so I'd say you'll be just fine.

And that's great news about your husband :) The more quitters the better!

Welcome Mazwol :D

Haven't used Champix, but have heard some really good things about it, am sure it'll do the trick for you!! And your husband is stopping too, how fab is that?

This place really does help, there's lots of helpful people and someone's always had the same experiences as you :)

Magic - joint effort - well done to both of you :)

Thanks all for your support

Yes, the dreams are bizarre to say the least - not horrible as such but more vivid than anything I have ever had.

But if it helps they are worth it - I work from home all day so have no restriction on smoking at all - hopefully Champix will continue to block the cravings and I just have to work on the associations and habits, like not using smoking as a break from the computer and not automatically lighting up each time the kettle is put on!

I am sure the support on here will also help - will use this fourm as my break instead:cool:

That's a great idea. You still need that time away from here but this is definately my favourite place to come and take a break from things! :)

Hello Amanda,

thanks - best of luck to you too

I am sure you will be fine on the patches and lozenges. I think that the fact that we approach our doctors at all shows we want to quit - just need that little extra help - no harm in that
