Hi All

I'm giving up tomorrow. I've become a serial quitter but am determined this time. I've made a promise to my wife to quit and it's her birthday tomorrow so what a great present. Previously tried gum/lozenges but am going cold turkey. I know I can do it but would appreciate support. I've got 3 cigarettes left and am going to smoke them now and then I'll be a non smoker.

3 left, hang on I'll be round in 5 :D

Only joking (she says halfheartedly), good for you, you've come to the right place for support. And what a brill present for your wife, don't forget the flowers and chocs as well though.

Wish I could go CT but I need something to keep my gob amused so have the odd chew and the odd patch (I'm very odd).

Anyway good luck for tomorrow, you can do it.

Appreciated

Thanks Marion. Appreciated. Flowers and chocs already sorted. Wouldn't dare forget them! Only 2 of the evil cigs left now.

Good luck Daz, and here's to you still being a non-smoker for your wife's NEXT birthday!

I'm a contrary sod, so I'd take a slightly different tack from you. This may or may not be a good suggestion in your situation.

Don't smoke the last fag in the packet, but give it to the wife as a symbol of your will to stop smoking. It's just one fag fewer than you were planning on smoking - it's not going to make any difference to your habit.

A bit like the old ad, "Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo", "do you love anyone not to smoke your last fag".

Hi Daz, good luck with your quit. I hope this one will prove to be your final one :)

I'm not far from you...I'm only in Bedford (oh.my.f.god. - the dog has just 'done one' 'let one off' and it reeks!!! Quick! Peg somebody!) so I'm not too far from you to confiscate any future fags bought haha

I'm sure you've heard it before Daz, but deciding to quit is the hardest part.

In a few days you'll be sorry you didn't do it sooner and wonder what all the fuss was about

Good Luck :D

Welcome from another noob.

Geez, I admire anyone who does it cold turkey. I'm needing 9 kinds of aids.

Plum...that's about the sweetest thing I've ever read regarding quiting smoking.

DAZ well done, your now a non smoker. We'll be with you through good times and bad, when no body understands, just come on here and have a good old rant.

We've all done it. I quit on cold turkey, you need to be positive, don't think that you are loosing out, be glad that you are not poisioning your body.

Remember smoking was not a habit, it was an ADDICTION, there's a big difference.

Be strong and we'll help you through.

Pam

I have been quit for 1 Week, 2 Days, 10 hours, 15 minutes and 40 seconds (9 days). I have saved £63.04 by not smoking 282 cigarettes. I have saved 23 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/03/2008 22:00

That's a great idea

Hi Daz,

Great choice for you!

I thought i was on champix and was helping me quit but actually i was doing it cold turkey LOL.

This is my 3rd day. I have got to admit it is NOT easy, the temptation and constant empty feeling is very uncomfortable. This site has helped tremendously, as has joels site (read todays the day, weep weep) for the link.

Yesterday I had a bottle of wine. I have associted smoking with frinking but found it surprisingly easy.

I am already noticing great benefits like:

my chest doesn't hurt in the mornings anymore.

I can actually feel the breath of air in my lungs when i go outside.

I can breath without any restrcition.

I can run and run longer and faster than ever before.

And all that and only on my 3rd full day!!

I still sort of 'want' a cigarette but am finding it a lot easier to say no I won't have one. It is a difficult battle you constantly have to tell yourself no!

today i am going to the gym again, third day in a row, it helps to see and feel the benefits when exercising and keeps your mind off it.

I have been dreaming about fags and dreaming i failed then wake up to realise it was a nightmare and actively say to myself.

I will not smoke today!

I want to be free

I WILL BE FREE

I must not fail

I WILL not fail

No Retreat, No Surrender.

Good Luck ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And DON'T SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

HmmMMMmMmmmm

Just re-read my post and realised it may not be very inspirational.

when i say it is difficult, it is.

But every minute that goes past not smoking adds to the whole.

I am on Day 3 and feel a lot lot better. I feel as though I have achieved something and it is spurring me on. The cravings did not kill me, i am not sick because of it, i am still alive and feel a lot healthier.

The unconmfortable feeling is a precursor to an ecstatic feeling - the joy of being free.

Don;t get me wrong I can;t call myself a non smoker yet, i can say i am almost there though and can now see the finishing line.
