Champix newbie

hey all

just started on champix today, ive tried patches and gum and just about everything else so this is sort of a last ditch saloon

must admit i feel very light headed after my first champix but not in an

unpleasent way

You've definately made the right choice!! I started taking Champix yesterday and i already notice a change in me - and for the good

I'm charting my progress on the Day 1 thread so you can always go there and have a look at what side effects are happening and what you can expect!

This site is great and since the day I registered my pledge I've had nothing but kind words and lots of support and that really makes a difference as, like you, this is not the first time I've tried to stop.

A lot of folk on this site have some great links on their signature - you should check them out!

Well done on the decision to quit like you I had tried everything to quit and then my son recommended champix to me and I tried it and have now been quit for 10 months tomorrow

I had no problems with champix at all except a little nausea with the morning one solved by taking it a little later on instead of first thing

It is normal to feel a little light headed to start with but it soon passes

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

hey mack,

im a champix quitter as well and can thoroughly say that it has helped me like no other method has and i really did try them all. Its not a magic cure and you really do have to wanna stop but it does give you a chance.

congratulations on getting through day 1 and keep posting and let us know how your getting on.

day 2 on the champix and i'm not sure what to expect,

still only on 1 0.5mg tablet per day and still smoking.

no change on the taste or the habit

Hi Mack,

All I can say is it's different for everyone. I've read of folk bypassing their quit dates after 14 days on champix only to get to day 15 and have a complete turn around!!! So don't worry about day 2 and no change - just relax and know that you won't be a smoker this time next month!!

Remember - your first week on champix is just to build up the drug in your system so that week two tablets can start taking an effect. But keep letting us know how you are getting on.

I took my last 0.5mg tablet this morning and start the two tablets tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to that!

dont expect it to be easy but ive been cutting down a lot the last few days,

only had 5 yesterday and from 30-40 a day thats a big drop.

got plenty of mints and coffee and my wifes on the phone every 5 mins egging me on so i think i have a good chance
