I had my "day 1" quit on Monday but.....this was due to me not having any money whatsoever to buy cigarettes so I didn't (couldn't) smoke all day. Yet I felt absolutely fine, hardly any withdrawal symptoms and didn't really think about it.
Yet as soon as I had money again (the next day) the first thing I did was to buy a pack. Now I haven't smoked this morning but I'm really feeling the symptoms and I'm thinking about it all the time.
I'm wondering: why is it when I CAN'T have a cig I'm absolutely fine about not smoking, yet as soon as I have the oppotunity to do so I'm really craving. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any advice to overcome this problem?
thanks in advance.

I too am on my first day and perposly smoked my last smoke last night so that i have none left for today. It's all mind over matter, well, not all of it but a big chunk!
You should give that pack to someone so that they are not close to you, don't let temptation beat you and if you did it one day then you can do it two days.....this is what i'm telling myself
Keep it up and let us know how you get on through the day.
Good good good!!! now then, we just have to find a plan for when you get home cos there just gonna be looking at you when you walk through the door!!!! Hummmmmmm how are we gonna get them ciggy's out of you vision by tonight??
Well done not smoking Monday even if enforced by lack of money I don't know the answer to your question about why you don't think about it when you know you can't buy any but maybe you sort off put the thought away for now so maybe you can make that trick work again for you

I know where you coming from with regard to the fact that if you know you can't have a cig, you okay. I was the same when going on holidays, etc. Being in the airport and on plane, it didn't bother me that I couldn't smoke, as I just knew I couldn't. But as soon as the plane landed I would do a sprint to get into the airport and eyes immediately scan for the smoking sign and ashtrays. LOL.
Think a lot of it is pyschological. My brain knew it wasn't an option on the plane, but in normal day to day things, it knows it is an option.
I'm on Day 6 now and I still try and make sure I don't have any money in my purse (sometimes it not by choice either).
Thanks everyone for the advice. Maybe it is psychological and I need to work harder, but when I definitely can't smoke I don't even need to work on it, I even feel good not smoking. Yet as soon as I 'can' smoke but want to quit i find myself with withdrawal symptoms.
Got to just work through it I guess. I;m doing OK so far, feel a bit strange in the head and trying to distract myself
Good luck with your quit Ikon - wish I could do it without the help of NRT but that's just me! Try reading Alen Carrs the easy way to stop smoking as I think it may benefit you.
