Serious sleep problems, day 20.

Hi everybody,

I could do with a bit of help, advice or reassurance. I am on day 20 of my quit and my sleeping as got really bad. Up to the point last night I could not sleep. I have never really had sleep worries before now but this as got worse and worse over the course of this week.

It's my stomach; it feels like it is knots, really nervous and tense. Every time I am about to drop off my stomach seems to do a twist and wake me up. I am absolutely worn our today and my stomach feels really "nervous" if that makes any sense. Even just trying to nod off today, I keep getting woken up by this nervous sort of twitch in my stomach.

Is this normal, is there anyway I can make it go away, or even stop worrying about it? It really is making this very hard.

Thanks stateofgrace.

your not pregnant are you?;)

i would say it's quite normal, everything in your body needs to re-adjust itself.

dont let it get you down, everything will be back to normal again soon!

Hmmmm... some ideas ....

I am a lifelong insomniac. i've suffered it since a child. I don't want to take tablets for it so these days I have hypnosis CD's on my ipod, along with some relaxing music (I like ocean sounds) and I drift off to that. Doesn't always work, but most times it helps.

This may help you if the stomach in knots thing is stress, for a lot of people stress goes to their tummies, these people tend to throw up or lose their apprtites when under stress.

If it's not stress it may be worth getting checked out by the doc. I suffer colic on and off, although I haven't had an attack for a few years now, it can be pretty painful.

Finally, have you changed anything you eat? It could be something you're eating that doesn't agree with your body. I'm not talking about allergies, for example white bread gives me acid indegestion. If I don't eat it I'm fine. Could be something new you're eating which your tummy doesn't really like.

Hope this helps and you get some sleep soon :)

I hope not, I'm, a 49 year old offshore engineer, that really would give the lads something to talk about. :)

Thanks for your words, I'm sure it's these cigs trying to wiggle their way back in. You are probably right; it's just my body readjusting.

Hi State of grace :D

Well done on day 20 you'll soon be counting in months now

The sleep problems are very common for us quitters but it will soon sort itself out as your body gets used to you not feeding it a diet of chemicals it will rapidly continue healing itsalf from the abuse it's had while you smoked

The music idea is great at times I suffer sleep problems and have for many years I find water music very good especially one I have of the sound of the sea I find Tranquility at Global Journey it's on the net another really good one is Dolphins and Whales by Galahad played softly they really help you relax

The stomach in knots thing could just be because you're subconsciously worrying about not sleeping

PS funnily enough I lived by the sea for a number of years with no sleep probs but when I moved away they returned

Thanks for the advice JenJam, I have a few chill out CDs on my ipod I will give that a go when I try to get to sleep.I'm not really one for taking tablets myself so I guess I will have to see how this goes.I haven't thrown up or really lost my appertite so I am hoping after I manage to get to sleep it will go away.

I think a lot of it comes from not smoking when I want to. I know before I would have simply have gotten up had a few cigs and gone back to bed and never given it a second thought. I guess now this option has gone I am working myslef up a little bit.

Thanks stateofgrace

And thank you Margareth, just read your post.

Hi Stateofgrace,

I went thru the same as you up till a few nights ago - am on day 35 but find that now I'm sleeping very well, was nearly pulling my hair out from not being able to get to sleep and then when morning came I could have slept, don't know how many times I was late for work.

I have been told the herbal nytol are brill was on the verge of buying them but my sleep problems seem to have gone - so maybe just ride it out and you'll come good soon or give the nytol a go - they're herbal so not doing you any harm

iam going through this at the moment, more anxious then anything!

sleep problems, either sleeping too much or too little.

massive bursts of energy, then no energy at all.

the experienced ones here tell me it passes with time, so i guess we

have just got to knuckle down and bare the temporary pain!
