I've been reading the posts for the past day or so (Excellent site) and decided that Thursday would be a good day for me to quit as I would have some company at home etc. Then I asked myself what was I really waiting for, I was going to feel the same no matter when I started. So I am now 16h 47mins into it. Don't feel too bad at the moment, hope that lasts.

Well done to you. It is a good idea to read some literature about the nicotine addiction and what to expect while quitting, here are some sites for you to look at if you choose, whyquit.com and woofmang.com.
I wish you loads of good luck and there will be others coming along with help for you.
Thankyou both for your kind words. I still can't believe I still feel pretty OK. I have had a good look at these websites over the past two days and it is good to know a bit about the "nature of the beast". Maybe that's why it is not hitting me too hard yet since the feelings I have, I was pretty much expecting and that's all they are. No pain involved. This is my first real attempt and I have smoked for over 30 years.

well done on your quit freespirit, like the guys say reading is important but to me the most important thing is positive thinking, If you truly believe you will never smoke again and you know you are mentally stronger than any little moment of weakness or craving, then you will never be beaten by the cigs and you really will be a freespirit.
I do still feel positive about this. Who'd have thunk it. After 32 years most of which I was almost 2 packs a day until about a year ago when I cut it down to about 15 a day. I can still hardly believe I have gone almost 2 days without one.
