Does everyone think about smoking so much when the 1st quit. need to keep going out walking, talking and going to join the libary.
Ok sorry for the rant my names tam 24 years old been smoking about 7 years but have really bad asthama and it is killing me so need to stop. Got a 24 hour patch on which i have had for a while but never used.
The things i am worried about is i am always smoking when i eat and drive and because my partner smokes(and will never stop) i am scared i will not be able to stop.
Has anyone on the forum every stoped for good.?

Hi Tam, Wow at 24 just imagine how much impact this will have on the rest of your life....let's say you live till 90, that will be 66 years smoke free! Just keep reminding yourself of all the positives.
Try this exercise...write down all the great things about smoking (they're not great but you might still hold that belief as you're in the early days). Now, imagine your best friend wants to give up and she's telling you all the things you wrote down about smoking. What advice do you give her to get the same effect in a different way?
If you participate fully in this activity you will call on inner sub-conscious strengths, remember to change roles to be your friends adviser...that's important...maybe even move chairs to do this bit..
Good luck and remember..."what the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve" Napoleon Hill Zx
Things will get better very soon smoking will smell to the point you feel sick. i also have a partner who smokes/and stinks HEHE. It can be done we are doing this for us. i was a 40 a day smoker for 35 years quit this time 17 weeks CT. just take baby steps till you feel strong and that dont take long honest. xxxxxxx
Hi CJM and Tam - welcome to the forum. My OH also smokes and will never give up, but I have relegated him to the kitchen when he wants one. As Linda says take baby steps and you will be surprised how quickly day 1 becomes a week. With regard to patches the only thing I would recommend with the 24 hour one is take it off when you go to bed, otherwise you could have the most extraordinary dreams. When you think about it you don't smoke when you are asleep do you!!
All the best both of you and keep coming on here to rant and get support. We are always happy to help.
welll nearly half way through day one had a few cravings but not many. forcing myself to believe i dont want a cigarette. twice i sat down after eating and pulled my lighter out and went ohh yeah i am stopping lol. No cigs about anyway.
The only thing i worry about is you could stop for years and then just start again it will be hard to stop for good i believe but i am trying.
Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good
