Feel free to give me a kick up the backside or whatever but I really have had a lousy weekend (pathetic excuse) and came oh so close to having a cigarette. Into week 3 now and I thought I was past that phase but it scared me because I really did want a cigarette. I haven't because I would let myself down but I can see now the temptation is always going to be there. How do you overcome that?
So tempted this weekend: Feel free to give me... - No Smoking Day
So tempted this weekend
Temptation seems to be a major player when quitting smoking, But think of it this way if you can resist once you can do it again, It does get easier so keep up the good work.

Quitting is like learning to smoke. At first it is difficult, you choke, get headaches etc. With practice your body can tolerate the poison though and with more practice it feels normal.
Now you have to do it the other way round. The first time you choose not to smoke in response to a trigger it is REALLY hard. With a bit of practice it becomes tolerable and with a lot of practice it becomes easy, and natural.
So... if you want it enough to keep practicing.... it will be easy.
You are doing great, so don't worry about a bad day or 2.... it happens. Just keep going and an easy day will come along very soon
Thanks for the replies. I'll just have to take the good with the bad. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully will be better. I have made the decision to stop smoking but its like anything else I do, I have an addictive personality, and it has to be all or nothing and I constantly beat myself up if I fall short and falling short in this instance was allowing myself to think about cigarettes!

Hi Biddy
I was ok at the weekend but, today I could murder a ciggy. Same as you I won't let myself down though but it is hard to resist isn't it?
Annie - I've just eaten a packet of buttered brazils!! Off to the gym at 5.00 to work off the excess of the buttered brazils! I know I would feel dreadful with myself if I caved in now and I'm not going to and it seems most people go through this.
Hi Biddy
You didnt give in to the craving hun, which means you are fighting that nasty nico demon and will get through this.
Huge well done on getting to 3 weeks, I know if i hve a bad day then quite often the next day is a breeze.
Good luck and hope tomorrow is easier for you hun

Stop beating yourself up Biddy!!
Week 3 was not plain sailing for me at all. I still think about having one like lots of other people but as long as you don't, you're still winning!!
If it's any consolation, I'm in week 4 (nearly 5 !!) and it's been so much easier.
You don't think it will ever end and the temptation will never go away, but it's fading fast for me. It's hardly there at all for me at the moment.
Who knows what next week will bring? You'll never know unless you stay quit.
Hope it gets easier for you soon xxxx
I hope so too. I've just heard my husband's job is under serious threat and it is likely he will be out of work in the next couple of months - me too as we both work together. If I get through this without a fag I will get through anything believe me!!
I can see now the temptation is always going to be there. How do you overcome that?
Actually the temptation reduces overtime and your ability to dismiss it increases to.
Morning biddy
Hope your feeling a little better today. you will get some bad days but as the time gose on they get less and less keep going hun your doing fab. My HO have had no work since before christmas so I know where your coming from but smoking dont help only cost more money and that makes thing worse. xxxxxxxxx
Hello B, hope today is going better for you. You're in that famous week 3, but you're prepared and know what to expect. You've been really strong so far, keep it up!
You mentioned that falling short is thinking about cigarettes: don't be silly! You're still relatively early on in your quit, so you'd be forgiven if they are still on your mind. The important aspect is taking those thoughts, and laughing them off, flick a V at that NicoDemon! If we didn't laugh, we'd go mad. Don't let them get the better of you now! Keep the faith! (thanks again, Tonyx )
Thanx - you made me feel better. At home today with various workmen in the house mending clapped out stuff - stress - what bl**dy stress!! Got to have new shower, cooker, fridge - have these appliances never heard of the recession and credit crunch! Can't afford to smoke now anyway.
Oh no bless you hun, did it all go wrong at the same time?
Sounds like things have gone from bad to bloody terrible.
Wish i could help hun, well done not smoking though, and hope things improve for you soon.
