Quit smoknig yesterday, im using 2mg gum and I require about 4 to 8 per day

I find a good weights session in the gym fo ran hour , or a half hour run REALLY helps with quitting - also the pent up RAGE from not smoking helps me lift more / run longer.

Well im at work now , chewing furiously on this gum...

Ive also noticed im feeling hunger again and tasting food better :)

My only worry is the weekend pub visit, beign surrounded by smokers - its gonna be tough - any tips or ideas... after a few pitns i may be more succeptable to temptation :(

Welcome to the site

First may I say congrats on your quit. You will have fab adivce and support here keep reading and posting. The first week is the hardest but also not as hard as some think. Dont worry to much about the pub visit till the time comes just take it one day at a time. Also the smoking ban should help just dont go outside to freeze. Linda xxxx

Hi Dev86 and welcome to the forum.

Well done on making the decision.

Most of the people on there have found that the key to staying quit is to get your mindset sorted. Educate yourself about nicotine addiction and what to expect while quitting and try to see quitting as gaining a better lifestyle rather than sacrificing something. It was always my problem before that I regarded cigarettes as a forbidden pleasure and eventually gave into the temptation.

If possible steer clear of alcohol in the early stages of the quit or if not possible try to get a non smoking friend to keep an eye on you and not let you "throw away" your hard work.

There are some excellent websites to get you started in understanding the addiction and how to be free of it here are a couple of the best.

Keep posting and best wishes.

Hi

Well done for getting to day two, me to.

Ive got the works xmas party on the 18th and ive decided that i am not having a drink because i dont want to undo the hardwork of stopping in the

1st place. Plus like you ive noticed the taste and smell of things which is weird (im hoping i still love marmite in 12 weeks time) after such a short amount of time.

Try and do lots of things to occupy yourself, the gym is a really good idea. My sister bought herself one of them punch bag things for home and used to hit that when the urge for a smoke came along.

Keep going and i will see you on day 3. :)

Gym is good its what i do. Also helps keep at bay any nasty cals that end up on thighs, bums and tums if you sub fags with food.

Pray for rain on your nights out, then you can lok out in sumgness on the poor saps ruining their clothes and hair gettign wet.

Cruel i know!

16 days! GET IN :D

Been out a few nights with mates and didn't smoke..

I bought £20 worth of gum , but stopped using it after 2 days

Much better results in the gym now, and thats what gave me the best encouragement through the first two weeks.

Only problem now is sleep, im getting about 4 to 5 hours of interrupted sleep durign the weeknights atm...but im sure it will level out soon.

Thanks for the responses guys, ill hopefully post again next week :D

Yes sleep is a common problem, But as you got the gym it should help to overcome some of that.

Will get better!!

Half way through mu 4th week now and it seems harder this week than week 1 or 2.

Its not so much the actualy craving, I just miss smoking! but I keep telling myself that I need the money and health benefits.

I've continued to go down my local on a friday and have stayed smoke free still whilst in the company of smokers , which im happy about and am sure I can maintain.

Will report back in a week or 2 , thanks for the support !

You have loads of learned behaviour and associations to unlearn. You are missing smoking because its the way you used to be, it didn't help you and you did it because you are addicted to nicotine but beating the addiction is not an overnight process you are winning - remember that and know that you never have to smoke again!! The choice it yours, use it wisely.

Best wishes

Nic
