My first day (so far)

Hey, my name's Adam. I'm 18 and I want to quit smoking.

I've been smoking since I was 13 and I think it's time to stop for good. I'm too young to kill myself.

So, I woke up this morning with a resolve to stop smoking. Easier said than done. I've chosen to do it through will power alone (and this forum ofc..),

Today's been a bit rough, the cravings are terrible and at one point I nearly gave in! I've thrown all my smoking related stuff out and stocked up on food. My calander is clear for the next few days so in effect I don't have to do anything so I don't have the outside risk of temptation.

It's nearly six so I'm going to get something to eat, it's something that I've been avoiding all day because after a meal it's nice to have a smoke..

Ah, it's going to be tough. Wish me luck and I'll update tommorow. :)

  • You have made the right choice

    Hi Adam,

    Welcome to the forum.

Well done for making the right choice, I started smoking at 13 too, and nearly 35yrs later I have managed to stop for 3 months so far the cold turkey way.

I have tried the other ways but they didn't work for me. I will not lie to you the 1st few day's will be the hardest but please try not to give in when the cravings come drink water it helps a lot. If you can try going for a walk that can help and read as much as you can below there are 2 very good websites. Knowledge is power and that will help you lots, your brain will play tricks on you all you have to do is ride it out. The cravings will only last a few mins at the most. Good luck to you

  • Hiya Adam

Good for you mate, very wise decision you've made. LIke Dolly says, do your damndest to ride out the first three days and then you'll be over the worst. All the best anyway and keep posting on your progress. David

  • Thankyou. :) That's really helpful. After I ate I was really tempted, almost tempted enough to ask my neighbour for a cigarette. I read what you said and it gave me more strength. The cravings gone. :)

  • Well, I'm not sure if this is still classed as the first day. All I know is it's 2am and I can't sleep. Insomnia? Argghh.

I'll drink some water and if that doesn't work I'll go for a bath. I have college in the morning so I need to get to sleep soon.

  • Know the feeling!
