20 weeks and your done

hi all

thought i would share this with the group, i found a way that can potentially let you give up smoking with no will power, patches or other aides needed, just the simple desire to give up.

ok what you'll need, a pen, a pad and thats it, the pen and the pad is simply to keep a record of how many you smoked and what the averages are, it will come in handy later on.

ok so this is what you do, pick a date to start becoming smoke free, now depending on how many you smoke will determine how long this will take, for this example we'll use 20 a day, so pick your date to start, and for a whole week smoke 20 a day, thats it , simply carry on smoking, do whatever you do in any other day, except when you have a cigarette, note the time, now on the second week only smoke 19 a day, again when you smoke is upto you, just dont smoke more than 19, and do this for a week, week three smoke 18 a day, and so on, with this system for someone who smokes 20 a day it will take 20 weeks to stop smoking, for someone who smokes 30 a day it will take 30 weeks, someone who smokes 25 a day it will take 25 weeks, now altho these seem like lengthy times, remember your not investing external or internal aids, patches, chewing gum, etc, all your doing is decreasing your intake of nicotine and at a rate that doesn't shock the body, all i can say is this system may or may not work, but if all your doing is decreasing your cigarette intake what have you to lose.

i am myself currently quitting smoking, and yes i am using this system, so any questions feel free to contact me.

Reduction method,its been around along time.I quit that way reducing gradually until not smoking.good luck on your quit.....

By the way you do stop eventually and do need willpower and you still withdraw

possibly worse than just stopping,because of your gradual reduction.

Or the other side of the coin: (just to keep it fair)

It is always said on this forum that you must use whatever method works for you as long as you stop smoking.

The method you describe will take an immense amount of willpower if you really are going to reduce your smoking a week at a time without faltering.

Do have a look at some other methods - you'll be surprised just how many there are:)

By my reckoning your 20 weeks will take you to the second week of December i.e. nearly Christmas!!

How many are you down to a day at the moment?

at this point i am still on 20 a day, but i will be on 19 next week, so who knows, if it doesn't work i will use the patches.....one over each eye so i cant find my cigarettes

Pardon me if i seem to be one sided in this but wouldn't you be better just picking a date and stopping the cigarettes completely? Are you going to spend the next 20 weeks dreading the awful day in permanent withdrawal? Think in four months you could be well on your way to recovery and hardly giving the cigarettes a second thought.

It won't be any easier to quit today, tomorrow, next week or next year if you don't really want to stop. You just have to do it.

Just my humble opinion :)

well, well what have i started, i just figured that i would share what i thought was a logical method to giving up smoking, apparently i appear to have been mistaken, considering i have been smoking since i was 11 and have tried the quitting cold turkey, the patches, the gum, this method for me works, and having tried it once before.....yeah i know theres a few right now going "told you it doesnt work", i got down to 10 a day, however when you lose a 14 year relationship it kinda takes the focus of things like giving up smoking, but it seems that i am in the perception of the room doomed to fail, which brings me to the conclusion that most in here are british as that is a very british trait, which being british i know, and why anyone would thing i was trying to pull their leg is beyond me, did however love the link that was posted about if you despise some one thel them to use the reduction method, very cute, but anyway people i apologise if i come across as someone who is here for a laugh, believe me that was the furthist thing drom my mind.

You can stop smoking whatever way you want, that's your right as a citizen of this country. It just seems like a torturous method which (as backed up by the experts on the website whyquit.com) doesn't have a high success rate. Maybe when you are down to 0 a day you can come back and recommend that your method works. People who have quit smoking and are going through the withdrawal process may not appreciate advice from someone who is smoking 20 a day at present. Just a thought.

i too would find it torture to stop like that, and people would find it hard to take advice from someone already smoking as i do believe someone has already sed, but i suppose if it works for you then fair enough, i however prefered the stressful cold turkey it maybe hard but i went from 25 a day to 0 the next day ive been stressful bitchy to my sister ive apologised to everyone for been a total bitch but hey it was worth it cos here i am smoke free :D and all those i was nasty and and stressy and bitchy to are still here and still my mates so no harm caused.

Of course this person hasn't stopped yet. They never did in the past with this method, they just cut down.

And they won't this time with this method either!!!

Constant withdrawal from nicotine for about 5/6 months........what a bl00dy nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!
