I'm an idiot

After 5 weeks and four days without smoking, I got a bit drunk, was feeling kinda low and smoked. Disappointed with myself. Planning to finish the packet I bought now. Smoked last night and again this morning.

So disappointed.

oh don't finish them - throw them away. You are not an idiot.

Most of us have been there - letting our guard down on our quits. Just continue with your quit as you did before you had these cigarettes. You still have those five weeks behind you, it's not too late to get back to where you were.

Throw them away.

One cig at a time

As you know, quitting is all about not smoking, and it's done one cig at a time. So don't smoke the rest of them. All you need to do is saddle up the horse again and ride. You know you can do it because you've done it before.

You also know you aren't an idiot. Tobacco is insidious; it doesn't lower intelligence, it is an addictive drug....

Good luck!

So disappointed. Hi Andy, don't beat yourself up about it :( You are not the first to have had a bit of a hiccup, and you certainly won't be the last ;) The thing to do is, set another quit day and then start again. A lot of us on here, have also found that it is not an easy thing to do, and that it is taking more than one attempt to quit and STAY quit. Keep coming back on here for support and you will be just fine. :)

Love Josie

Hi Andy,

You had a blip and you know how you feel about it so get back on the wagon and try again. You can do it. If you finish the pack you will feel worse and you may even think well I just smoked a whole pack I may as well have another pack, so toss that away and start over! You can do it. You are not an idiot, you are human. Good Luck and I hope you get back on track a.s.a.p!

Hi gang,

Thanks for the replies, most appreciated. Will use this forum more often for sure.

Just to update everyone on my previous post...

I did indeed finish the pack, but woke up this morning and put a fresh patch on my arm, ready to begin all over again.

Stay in touch, if I can be of help to anyone just give me a yell.

Cheers,

Andy

I did the same thing as you and got straight back into quitting again.

Dont beat yourself up, you have kept strong and started the 'quit' road again, others might have just carried on smoking. Take it as a learning curve and good luck x

Hi gang.

I'm an idiot twice!!

This time though I've come to some important conclusions...

To cut a long story short, I got into a big argument with my family, lost my focus and smoked AGAIN! However, this time I only bought ten and have so far worked my way through six. I am ready to bin them as 1) I'm not actually enjoying them too much 2) I think the reason I smoked was purely to piss my family off in retaliation to our argument 3) I prefer being a 'non smoker'

Just wanted to keep everyone posted with my progress because you were all so helpful the last time I stuffed up (a mere 9 days ago!). Anyway, a patch will go on before bed tonight, the remaining cigs will be destroyed and I'll start all over again tomorrow!

I hope everyone else is being more strong willed than myself.

All the best,

Andy

Oh, my! How many of my previous quits ended that very same way? We fool ourself into believing it's THEIR fault we're smoking again. Been there, done that, and I (and you too Andy) will be prepared for that one this time around. It's one of Ol' Nic's favourite tricks :(

Hope you're managing to stay off, don't feel too bad, a little glitch and you managed to catch it in time. :)

Keep it up! You can do it!

Yup...

Been there, done that!

Smoking is tied into our system ...just wrapped around all sorts of momnets that are a bit more intense...high and low...than normal. I used to break a quit when I was excessively happy too!!!

Good luck on staying stopped. You know it will be a great and lifelong achievement!
