😊On Friday, I received a call call from my transplant nurse that I was identified for a kidney coming available the next morning. I accepted and my husband drove me to the hospital 2 hours away. Next day I had the 4 - 6 hour surgery and the new kidney began to work right away. I am less than 48 hours post-op and my creatinine has dropped a few hundred points already. I hope my news gives encouragement to those waiting. You never know when that incredible call of hope will come!
Kidney Transplant: 😊On Friday, I received... - Kidney Dialysis
Kidney Transplant
Oh my gosh, how wonderful! You better do some posting on how all of that went (when you feel up to it). Sure am proud this came through for you!
Thanks so much, Ron! I will provide more detail once I am home and able to use my computer. Typing on my phone is tough with prednisone sausage fingers!
Wow, BlueSky .... that's excellent! How long did you have to wait?
Thank you! I was on the list for 10 months.
Congratulations what a wonderful gift you received. You give me hope that one day I will get the call . How long were you on the transplant waiting list?
Thank you! You will and it is quite a moment when it happens. I waited 10 months. It was a short wait due to my B blood type and few antibodies, which made me a good candidate.
Wonderful news! May that wonderful gift give you many, many years of great health!
Many, many thanks, Darlenia!😊
Congratulations thats amazing news. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Also a precious gift from the donor and their family.
Thank you very much, Ziggy. Yes, it is quite a gift!
Congratulations!!!!, great, great news!, that’s another reason to keep enjoying life at its fullest! Get inspired, try new things and enjoy life, you deserve it!, you have work really hard, God bless you and your family!
Yes, Erifre, you are so right! Kidney failure made me reassess many aspects of my life. It is truly like receiving a second chance at life. It is not without its own challenges, of course, but I will aim to always make good health choices to stay as healthy as possible. I appreciate your sound advice! Thanks again!
That is so fabulous. I'm just starting and haven't yet had an evaluation but I'm looking forward to it.
Hi Horsie63. Here is a little advise I posted to someone else. I hope it helps. Make yourself as healthy as you can. Eat properly. If you need to lose weight, do it. I followed intermittent fasting prior to beginning testing. I also performed very well on the stress test. Docs were impressed for a then 55 going on 56-year-old. I am not boasting here, I promise. I just knew that cardiovascular health was important, from a surgical and from a recovery standpoint. If you smoke, quit. Walk every day. Use a treadmill. I did both. I also ran 30-second sprints, usually times 3 which, I think, was really helpful. I also worked on deep breathing. My SpO2 is around 99 to 100%. The transplant team wants to have successful transplants. It looks good for their program. Therefore, you've got to strive to be that candidate. Maintain a positive outlook. They want to see an enthusiasm for living, I believe. Ultimately, however, everything gets fed into a computer program that matches the individual to potential organs. But, docs do review every aspect of your file and share their concerns and views towards a candidate's likelihood of success. Best of luck Horsie!!!
