Acute Kidney Injury (Stage 3b).

This is what I have. I'd rather not have it, of course. Luckily now don't have too many symptoms of anything at all. Started with a uti, which was not cured by antibiotics, which quickly progressed to severe urinary retention, backed up to the kidneys. Complicated by an enlarged prostrate, a bladder that would not contract, and urosepsis which all developed at the same time. All over the course of a week.

I would be unaware of it completely now aside from when I get blood tests done, showing that my creatine is a touch too high, and my gfr is too low. From time to time I get infections in the kidneys, and sometimes end up in the local hospital until they are cleared up.

I now have a permanent reminder of the situation as I see the inserted supra pubic catheter protruding from my bladder everyday. Much better than the two urine bags I had to have connected to my kidneys for approx a year. Still don't like it, and trying to figure out a way to get rid of it completely.

But at least, with the spc, life is more manageable. I can swim, run, work and so on, live life much as normal.

As I have no intention of doing that clean intermittent catheterization multiple times a day, just not for me, the spc will do as a temporary alternative.

So that's the story. I understand I came close to losing my life in the hospital because of these health issues. So I am thankful to still be alive, and reasonably healthy otherwise.

Welcome to the web site for support and sharing. We have different reasons for CKD. I too had prostrate problems and surgery. The condition may have contributed to my CKD.

Your story is almost identical to mine. I am Stage 4, but feel like I'm 3b. I use the intermittent catheter 4 times a day. Had 3 UTIs last year, finally cleared up with antibiotics. Haven't had any since. Symptoms for me are mostly itching and insomnia, a bit of fatigue of course. I watch what I eat, keeping my sodium and the 3 Ps under control. Try my best to get a daily walk in, despite living in the frozen north. I wish you well.

Yes trying to keep the diet right can be helpful, easing off the bladder irritating foods, and drinks. Trying to follow a plant based diet, with low protein, and some low carbs. Not always easy, nor successful with that. But many others seem to find such a life style choice helps.

I would say improvement in the gfr, and creatine is possible with the right lifestyle choices, although carnivore or keto diet, perhaps a step too far.

Good Luck.
