AKI and CKD and the future?

Hello All. So I had acute kidney injury (AKI) and scarring so chronic kidney disease (CKD). Now that my physician improved my low blood pressure my eGFR went up from 40 to 58. So is this 58 now my new normal? Or am I at risk of losing what I’ve gained because I have kidney disease? I am wondering how things have played out for others with AKI and CKD over time?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that AKI, which is due to an isolated event such as a sports injury or an illness, doesn't typically progress like kidney disease that comes about due to chronic and progressive underlying health condition - diabetes, autoimmune disorders, polycystic disease, etc. So, in my humble opinion, your kidney disease may well progress more slowly than usual. However, none of us in this community are medical professionals and none of us can diagnose or provide timelines. Your best information would come from your medical professionals, particularly your nephrologist. Simply give him a call and see what s/he says.

Thank you Darlenia :) Unfortunately I don’t think my nephrologist knows my future, he told me he wanted to present my case to his colleagues… because it was unusual:/ I have a condition that causes low blood pressure, but he said I have CKD now. Hopefully it was progress slowly..thank you again.

Yes, indeed, low blood pressure can also cause kidney problems. Life is full of uncertainty at times. Sending positive thoughts that your team can keep you stable and well. Hugs.

I had AKI due to sepsis from bacterial meningitis 12 years ago. The super infection attacked my organs and rendered me on dialysis for 3 months. It was touch and go, not knowing if my kidneys would resume normal function. I enjoyed a regular diet during past 12 years. Last January, ckf/ckd symptoms became more obvious, including bp elevation, irreg. heart rate, nausea, fatigue. At stage 2 & 3, my symptoms have been very overt! Nephro said progression may be slower, but I immediately changed my diet to plant-based, lost weight, exercise. My eGFR's have bounced up and down from 55 to 89. It's been difficult, but I'm trying to live life as best I can. I have grandchildren & great grandchildren.Wish you the best...

Thank you for sharing your story with me Dana. I have fatigue as well, but it’s a bit better now. That’s interesting your eGFR moves around so much, that was one thing I was wondering about. I’ll try to stay plant based, thank you!!

The Ambassador's on this site have much good advice along with all the other's. An important one to remember is to stay well hydrated daily and before having labs. It's been comforting to have other's here offer their support. We are all in this...🙏🙂
