CKD and Covid

Hi,

I just tested positive for Covid. Right now it feels like a bad cold and slight cough. I reached out to my kidney doctor but she really wasn't any help. I would like to know if kidney doctors are supposed to help you if you are diagnosed with covid or if you have medication questions if ckd is caused by type 2 diabetes.

Hi Yankee, sorry you have covid.. hope you have been vaxed and if so you should be OK, fingers crossed on that though. As far as your neph helping with Covid, not sure what she could do but for sure she should answer medication questions.

Thank you. I just feel like she never wants to answer any questions. I am a little disappointed in her care. Might be time for a change.

Hi there. Best thing to do is monitor yourself and take a lot of natural anti virals such as garlic (raw is best, grated or cut up into a tea) same with ginger, colloidal silver, and elderberry syrup. And be sure to take plenty of zinc, quercetin, vitamin c, and vitamin D. That should help exponentially. Hope this helps. Take care

Thank you. Luckily seem to be getting better and not worse. You hear so many stories about covid and underlying medical conditions. I was so scared when my test was positive. But awake right now and feel good. Really seem to be getting better. 🙂

Happy to help. I'm so glad I found this forum full of people that I can relate to and can relate to me. Sometimes people just don't understand the challenges of the side effects of transplantation. And remember even when you get better take vitamin D every day. Most ppl are deficient and many studies have come out that MOST (of course there are exceptions) people with a good level of vit D have less serious symptoms from Covid.

So sorry to hear about your covid diagnosis. Life is never simple, but the strong get through it and you will.

My thoughts; if your PCP has not been notified of your positive test, let the office know and see if he/ she can give you a call or schedule a virtual appointment with you and discuss care and medications which are kidney safe and will get you through this.

He/ she should be your medical team captain; hearing from all specialists and my guess has had the experience in treating covid cases as opposed to your specialists.

As far as your nephrologist is concerned; if you feel that your doctor is not listening to you, communicating with you in basic terms about your lab results, medications, diet, etc. answering your questions, as well as consulting and communicating with both your PCP and other specialists; particularly the person attending to your diabetes, then I would consider finding someone who will.

Not all medical personnel have stellar bedside manners, but competence and a willingness to work with a patient; making them feel comfortable and heard is imperative.

Give that a thought for after you have had negative covid tests and are feeling better.

Right now, focus on rest and healing.

Thank you for your response. Just getting covid and having diabetes and ckd is scary. Luckily I seem to be getting better. Tuesday was first day and I felt awful. But each day I am feeling better. I do work but besides work I am extremely careful about where I go and what I do. Unfortunately my husband was exposed to covid at work and both myself and my son caught it from him. Such a scary illness especially for those of us with underlying health conditions. Best to yiu and stay safe.

I know the words Covid are frightening especially with your other health combinations.

Please take care of yourself and your family.

Hopefully you are working from home and getting rest while attending to your responsibilities.

Give your PCP a call and let them know how you are feeling and get suggestions from them about treatment and quaranteening until you test negative again.
