Restless legs: Hi everyone. I get restless... - Kidney Disease
Restless legs
HI Suzie,A doctor that dismisses a condition that is interupting sleep is in my opinion not a good doctor. Yes, it is true that having late stage CKD can cause sleep issues such as restless leg syndrom. BUt there are things you can do to mitigate them. I for example, when I cannot sleep or wake up in the middle of the night, I will take melatonin. I only take 2.5 mg and it is enough to put me under and sleep well. For restless legs, there are medicines and doing exercise such as walking and cycling helps. It is important that you get good quality sleep when you have a chronic illness as the body needs it to help combat the deficiencies that come with CKD.

You may want to try magnesium glycinate capsules to calm your restless legs so you can get a good nights rest. Magnesium comes in many forms - be careful to pick only the glycinate form as that's the one that calms restless legs. You can find it online (Amazon) or possibly at your local vitamin store. It's inexpensive. My husband has terrible restless legs like you have and that's the only thing that really works - he takes it right before going to bed. Hubby has had restless leg issues for years which progressed in severity (completely unbearable) when he recently went on dialysis. It may work for you too as kidney disease takes a toll on one's magnesium levels. Good luck.
Thank you so very much with this info will call my psychiatrist tomorrow as he knows my entire history like PCP should be like he actually knows my entire situation which is all intertwined with each other fantastic doctor met him when hospitalized last year after previous psychiatrist doubled my lithium prescription pharmacist didn’t even alert me of change of dosage I had been on for 38 yrs then boom all hell breaks out haven’t been the same since- did advise/reported a grievance against md however that was March right when pandemic hit hard have never heard from them but of looking for attorney will pursue as I have researched how often this is done and no accountability occurs - not only pursuing this for me but for the thousands who have had same experiences- will keep y’all updated been a terrible year in so many ways “let’s just pray and not worry “ my montra daily‼️‼️‼️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼Our health is first foremost‼️‼️‼️😷🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Here is a link to Davita about restless legs and CKD. Education and being proactive is important for us with CKD. I have peripheral neuropathy which maybe connected to CKD and do have a neurologist, however there may be other factors causing it also. I am at CKD level 3b. davita.com/education/kidney...
Thank you will have a look..
I have studied this article. Is it possible to get rid of numbness in feet by exercising instead of taking medicines like gabapentin.
Can regular exercise like cycling walking and weight training help to alleviate the problem so that youcan avoid medicines which could have adverse side effects
Interesting neurologist ran tests found I had neuropathy on feet is why I loose my balance falls bump into things frequently but found no nerve damage still unknown my situation 🤷🏻♀️
What is your latest Hg number, hemoglobin? Do you take aspirin? Do you have heart failure? Thank you,
I would strongly consider changing doctors. A neurologist prescribed Pramipexole to be taken before bedtime each night for restless leg syndrome. The result--no more restless leg.
Hylands as a product for leg cramps and one for restless Legs. There is also magnesium lotion . Both work for me.
When I began taking magnesium for my afib, I nearly eliminated my restless leg problems. Occasionally when it recurres, I rub on magnesium oil which always helps. I also drink mote water to hydrate my muscles. Best to you!
My doctor has me on REQUIP. I think it is the best med. there ever was for restless legs.
