I'm about 8 years post kidney transplant and started having frequent UTIs several years ago. Many of the antibiotics didn't help at all or only as long as I was taking them. I was looking at possible ongoing antibiotics which I didn't want. I was already on topical estrogen twice a week but on one doctor's recommendation, I increased it to a small dab every day and that's been over a year UTI-free. I have read that new treatments are coming for UTIs which is good news. For me, this treatment has been great and it's my understanding that more doctors are recommending it when it's appropriate for the patient.

Thanks for the link, CKDgurl. Certainly interesting reading of the latest findings.

Found from my own experience, oestrogen doesn't prevent a UTI if I stray off the medically prescribed UTI diet I was put on some years ago.

Hey there, I hope you are well.

Happy New Year if I haven't said it already!:-)

I thought it was an interesting read as well.

I'm not worried about you, you are a badass and that diet is gold; I passed it on to my friend with interstitial cystitis, and she's interested enough to give it a go!

I thought perhaps others with chronic UTIs might have a look-see...

Take care. :-)

Thank you, CKDgurl.

I appreciate the information you post and believe the above link/info you passed on will be of help to everyone with UTIs.

Happy New Year to you, too. 🙂

I am very interested in reading this, sadly the link won't work foe me and I cannot find it on the website. Would you be so kind and give me the "gist" of it please

in reply to Monkey_gir34

The gist is that the use of vaginal estrogen therapy has been found to be helpful in lowering UTI risk. Vaginal estrogen increases the presence of lactobacillus in the vagina, preventing or helping to prevent UTIs. Looks like the original article has been removed, I will post another, there is a lot of research floating around on this topic right now.

FYI I posted another link!
