Thanks. Sage advice. Turned 80 yesterday. In Nov. 2017, I fell and fractured my right femur. Following rehab, I went to the "Bone Clinic" at our nearby Veterans Admin. Med Center. Approx. 4 months after the fracture, I was prescribed a daily self injection of a bone-fortifier called Forteo. Several months ago, the VA switched patients to a newer product. The regimen can only last 2 years, then patients can receive a twice yearly injection at their doctor's office of a different class of drug that helps maintain bone fortification. A bone density test is a lot better notice of need than having a fracture!

Sorry to hear of your fall and bone fracture. I am 78 and agree that a bone density test might be in order for CKD patients. Will ask Doctor about it.

Thank you Orangecity for this excellent reference link on bone issues with CKD! A primary concern for me with osteoporosis and recent refusal for Reclast infusion. I read all of the info provided from your link and have more resources now to ff up on.

After a month and repeated calls to PCP's nurse, got an answer Friday on the osteo treatment options. Was told I could take either the Reclast or Prolia...my choice. My Stage 3 did not preclude either of the treatments. My own research had concluded the same but the doc has to issue the treatment order. While I am vastly relieved that the Reclast can be resumed, I remain frustrated that the patient has to keep persisting and oiling the squeaky wheel.

Was also told that the kidney stones found were "too small" to require treatment. I am add ing low oxalate foods to my diet because who would want to anticipate having to painfully excrete them at some future date?

The most important lesson learned thus far on this new CKD journey is that patient advocacy is of the utmost importance in learning to better manage our diagnosis and treatment. Thanks to members here, I am now a "true believer" in its importance.
