Hello all! I hope everyone is doing well. As some of you know, I'm a peritoneal dialysis patient and started dialysis 4.5 months ago. My Dialysis team has been encouraging me to get out and do things, which I've been managing to do by taking walks and running errands for my parents. I haven't spent the night anywhere yet though because I was getting used to my cycler at night. Well, I finally decided that I was going to take the leap and I will be going to the coast for a weekend in a few weeks! I'm very excited and relieved with how understanding the hotel staff were over the phone about my needs for this trip to be successful. It also seems fitting that the day I leave will mark 5 months since I began dialysis!
I just thought I'd share my exciting little milestone!

How Great for You !!! It really is nice to hear this type news. I can feel so isolated at times, even going to work everyday and I am just beginning dialysis. You inspire me to work harder to enjoy my life more than I am doing at this time !!
I was on peritoneal dialysis for more than 2 years. The greatest thing about it was that I could travel pretty easily. I spent several months in Florida and South Carolina and on shorter weekend trips off and on. Would just call the dialysate supplier and arrange for delivery to my address and then would fly with my dialysis machine in the overhead bin to my destination. If it was a shorter trip, would just load up the car with supplies and venture out.
So, I encourage you. Just remember the most important thing is not to get an infection so double your vigilance towards this aspect of peritoneal dialysis. Good luck. Have fun.
Thank you for posting! I feel better knowing that others have been able to easily vacation and things! I called and talked to the hotel about bleaching the fixtures in the bathroom and I'm going to be doing some extra steps during exit site care to make sure that I don't get any infection. I'm also bringing my own bleach cleaner to wipe things down just in case something gets missed.
