Numbers higher

I stopped eating sweets, and it has helped me improve my Stage # 3 to Stage 2. Now, I want to get to Stage 1, and then I will have no kidney issues at all.

I believe Everything is Possible with a Lifestyle change. I decided that I didn't choose to be on dialysis and knew if I didn't change what I was putting in my mouth, that was where I was headed.

I fell off, got back up, and started again. I came up with every excuse. What is important to me is the one thing I keep in mind. Is eating this pie more critical than staying off dialysis?

I am listening to all the Holistic specialists on YouTube and listening to my doctor. I am educating myself on this body. I am late at 75 learning, but better late than never. I had no idea that some of my medications were destroying not only my kidneys but my liver and lungs. Nope! What is more important? Taking this pill to stop this ack and pain or going on dialysis?

My choice is to learn this body. It is written that fruit with seeds is for healing. In the beginning, only fruits, vegetables, and garden items were eaten. I am returning to the garden to eat nuts, berries, and natural whole foods.

No more Fast Food, GMOs, or foods with pesticides for me. The greed of some men has contributed to harming animals and our human bodies, I believe.

Each one of us chooses.

So you think that everyone on dialysis chose sugar over failing kidneys? If only it was that simple

purifire7777 profile image
purifire7777 in reply toBadger2024

No, I must have said it wrong. I choose not to eat sugar to not end up on dialysis. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that everyone on dialysis chose sugar over failing kidneys.

I was speaking only about me. What it took for me to stop eating sugar. It is a fact that eating sugar damaged my kidneys along with medications and other things I was doing like not drinking enough water, not taking my blood pressure pills.

Peace!

I’m sorry too. I didn’t mean to sound aggressive. I understand that quitting sugar has been particularly hard for you. I find quitting salt the hardest. Some people may find red meat the hardest. The thing is that as our kidneys deteriorate there are more and more things that we need to reduce so we all have to keep an eye on our individual lab results. The fact that you’ve gone from stage three to stage two I’m wondering how long you were actually in stage three and what was the lowest your eGFR was? Once we’ve lost nephrons it’s not actually possible to generate more but there are all sorts of reasons someone’s creatinine level can be elevated causing the GFR estimate to be below ‘normal’. Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.

It’s my understanding that ‘numbers’ affecting Stage Three in particular, changed only fairly recently. Maybe about ten years ago? These numbers must have been changed by NICE or some such group. My GP told me at the time that many GPs were up in arms about the change. The numbers had become too low in their experience. This put a massive number of patients into Stage Three who apparently in the past moved in and out (me), sometimes quite a few times and never actually fully developing failure. So I am thinking that nephrons at that artbitary new low point are still not structurally damaged and remain functional. Other illnesses play a large part in kidney function, thyroid plays a huge part in this and good thyroid treatment (hard to come by) can improve kidney function if it is not too far developed.

I don’t think you are wrong. It would just appear that Stage Three (as it now is on the low numbers) just shows functional rather than structural damage - in some cases!

At 75 I don't let the small things upset me. We are good. Remaining calm allows this body to heal faster, I believe.

You know, I have not thought about looking at all my lab results. I will do that. Yes, trust is high on my list. My daughter says that I trust everyone and yes I use to take everything a doctor gave me without reading any of the materials. Now, I read and am doing more research. I need to find out what all my test results have been for the last year and monitor them.

I got the wake up call that I needed. Taking my daughter to and from dialysis is very educational. Her kidneys failed when she was in her late 20's. She is now 52. One transplant and it worked for 8 years. Now, she has gotten tired. They took her off the list after one open heart surgery, knee replacement, and she just had more heart surgery. Now other issues have risen.

The Lord has to fix her body or reveal to scientist what causes it and stop it from happening to others. I don't choose dialysis for me. At my age, I can choose what I want to go through and I don't choose to go through a lot. hahahahahaha

The Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) diet was given to me by my Doctor when I was diagnosed with CKD. I am limited on Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium and Protein. The diet is limited on foods that are high in these elements. Maybe ask your Doctor if there is a need for this diet.

I was diagnosed with CKD at age 77 and the Doctor put me on a CKD diet based on bloodwork. which has helped me. I have been on the diet for 6 years now.

What is a CKD diet? I have not heard of it. Please explain how I can find this information. Bless you! My goal is to live to be 117 in my right mind and walking. Now, if I can not have that I'm back to Heaven. hahahahahahaha

As someone who is on dialysis, I say keep fighting. I wish i had been as proactive at the beginning. Believe me you do not want to be on dialysis. If it is working for you, then keep going. Wishing you all the best.

Bless you! You are so right. Are you interested in getting a transplant? I am aware that the scientist and doctors at Wake Forest Baptist are working on the steal cells to create patients own kidneys in the lab. No hand full of pills to take. I also heard that a live donor kidney last longer than a deceased donors kidney. There is a web site I found this week for live donors called, "Donor Seekers." Look it up and share with others who are looking for a kidney.

My daughter needs another transplant once she heals from other issues and if the Lupus stays in remission. Lupus damages kidneys and other vital organs.

Thank you for responding.

I think there is definitely misunderstanding around what doctors prescribe us. We are very trustful. Overly so I think. In the past I have taken things I was prescribed to my detriment. They most often don’t think in ways involving ‘quality of life’ and they don’t give the patient any credit for being able to change some of their perhaps ‘lifestyle’ issues. This is because their business is ill health. They mostly know extremely little about health, nutrition and I hate to mention supplements because it seems even less about that.

And it all makes them very uncomfortable not knowing answers to intelligent questions by patients. It’s almost done in quite a threatening manner making you feel like you have no say. If you don’t … but it’s up to you.

The unclear and rather ‘gung ho’ attitude of medics involved in individual specialisms, without a care for what else is going on with patients is pretty extreme, I think. I came on this forum specifically to ask a question about CT Scanning and I got more help here than any information I persistently asked medics.

Someone should sit down and produce information for patients who want to know what they are getting into. I have yet to be told what dangers there might be investigating problems and indeed prescribed drugs. You are left to find out for yourself.

The lack of information (even known to the staff) is such that no matter the situation, it’s left up to you as to whether you commence with it. Getting us to sign these bits of paper allowing procedures etc to go ahead are a farce. We need more information and instead of us (who are not doctors) ploughing through the information ourselves, it ought to be made readily available at each stage of our treatment.

Apologies - rant!

I agree with you! We have to be our own advocate. We have to learn our own bodies and as I told myself the other day, research like I am in Medical School. I am happy with YouTube Holistic Doctor Sten Ekberg who use to be an Olympic Star. Anyway, the only thing is eating meat. I don't choose to do that. He stopped and went back to organic meats and ocean fish. I don't choose to eat dead animals, fish, or dairy. The greed of men has some animal producers giving animals medication & foods they don't even eat. The oceans are full of blood, trash, and who knows what else since New York tosses their trash in the ocean. Imagine, hospital trash in the ocean and wonder why the ocean fish are washing up on our shores. A dairy farmer said on National television that if we knew what some dairy farmers were doing we would not eat dairy. That was enough to stop me.

Are we going to have to grow our own? I am planning to do just that. Plant apple trees. Build high garden beds so I can harvest standing up. Bending down is an issue right now. This turning 75 is more than a thought. hahahahahahahaha Even cars need replacement parts as they get old or damaged. Bring on the extra parts. hahahahahahah😂🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣

Love your humor. Stress can really damage your liver, BG, Kidneys…….so I take my MDI for the last 30 years plus, mediation like a good girl and pray!

MDI? Hum...please share what that means. I used to meditate, and I will go back. Thank you so much. I'm interested in MDI if it helped you for 30 years. I had no idea that stress damages the liver. Okay, BG? Please explain. I also need to go back to praying five times a day. Thank you for reminding me and for the information.

purifire, I love your attitude! As things stand now, I too will forego dialysis, and it's a decision I'm comfortable with. I am 80, and have other chronic illnesses. We all have our choices and our reasons.

I hear you! My friends Mother made the same decision and some members of the family were so upset. I have decided not to share my issues with my family. When the time comes I will leave this old broke down body and be truly free. Spirits don't have illnesses. My Mom saying to me, "I am happy to be out of that broke down body." Her voice was so happy. The happiest I have ever heard. No, I don't choose to go out bed ridden and someone having to clean me up.

I want to go out with my dignity in tack. So, my Mom was happy and I know I will to.

Bless you!

Look at the NKF website under support and you will see recipes for a CKD diet. Your nephrologist should also send a referral to a renal dietician. It's a lot of vegetables, no red meat - watch salt phosphorus and magnesium.

I hope your doctor told you that once you have kidney damage there is no reversing it. Many on this site have stabilized their CKD with proper diet, but it can't make your kidney issues go away.

I have had a transplant almost 25 years ago. I am not diabetic , no autoimmune disease, no family history of kidney disease....I had strep throat and a couple months later I was in the hospital with nephritis. Years passed and I was in kidney failure. My 16 year old deceased donor is my HERO, giving me a second chance at life.

Hope you can get on a CKD diet and stabilize your kidney failure.

hello and congratulations on your success. If you don’t mind, I’d love if you could share what your EGFR and creatinine was at stage 3. Were you 3a or 3b? I will look forward to your reply.

purifire7777 in reply toMinnadeParis

Hello, I don't know the numbers as I should. I was 3a and after learning of this I started immediately asking, how to reverse this and was told it is not possible, but it can remain the same and not get worse. I have great faith that our Lord will fix this. My goal is to not have any issues with my kidneys, liver, heart or any other vital organs in this body. I read in Genesis that fruit with seed is for healing. That's it.
