Hello Lindy27 and welcome to this Forum!

Wow April is just around the corner but am sure you will find good advice on here to help. We focus on building up good habits about healthy food choices that achieve steady weight loss not fast fixes but it is still possible to lose weight in weeks if one pays careful attention to what you eat. No processed foods, cut out sugar, reduce carbs (especially refined carbs eg white rice/pasta/bread etc)and use good fats to satisfy hunger (like olive oil, butter, avocado etc)

This site (link to follow)gives you more info and menu ideas

This next link takes you to our Pinned Posts section in which you will find a Welcome message and guide to our site plus links to other important groups on here

....it can take a bit to master finding one's way so please read the material carefully. Also please note, don't use the HU App, it is much easier to use the website.

There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!

We recommend that members join a Weekly Weigh-In, on the day of your choice, and also use the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback. They are found under Pinned Posts (go back to the link I gave you above)

A special feature of our Forum is the degree of support between members which you will experience (and add to yourself !) as you join in and chat with others.

All the best on your weight-loss journey ! 😊

Welcome Lindy,

You haven't mentioned how much you hope to lose or by when in April. There are ways you can help yourself reach your final goal in the long term but your short term goal may not be fully achievable (don't shoot the messenger).

If you get involved here, there's potential to lose 1 or 2 pounds a week which is still going to mean you're in a better position than you're in now :)

Diane has provided you with a starting point and you already have a good reason to stay focused. Being active here will definitely help as well.

Evening,

I think a realistic amount of weight to lose is 10lb ad I have till April 25th date of wedding, what do you think?? Is that realistic. 😀

My advice is not to focus on a number but to focus on eating healthily. People that try and force weight loss almost invariably end up in trouble.

I see you've already made a good step by joining the Sunday weigh-in and the next step is ideally to join in with the Daily Diary. My advice would be to read through the post and all the replies to date and once you've got a feel as to what others are doing, add your own reply... healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I think it is a combination of diet discipline and exercise

I am premenopausal myself with at times very painful and excessive menstrual periods

Also consider that the UK is experiencing uncertainty due to Coronavirus and see how best you can help yourself

Hi I started the year off at a whopping 166. 4 pounds. I then started Dr Michael Mosley’s 800 diet he has all the info on his website although his book does help, having 800 calories for 3 weeks and cutting out sugar then moved to the 5:2 where 2 days a week I eat only 800 and 5 days I eat a Mediterranean diet. I have lost 14.4 lbs and have so much energy. I am also menopausal!

Good luck

This! I started following this, and in the first month I lost 7.4kg & 10 cm off my waist. I didn't stay on the Molesey diet for that long, I have switched to low carb and intermittent fasting, which is not as affective as 800/day but easier to live with.

PS. If you want to see what can be achieved in a month (including a complete blowout on Christmas day)

(you have to join the group to see the selfie, but you can leave it again straight after)

It can be a problem and still tend to get bloated at time of month even though not having monthlies!!!! And fluid retention. Try to eat low GI filling foods, don't have anything in that you would normally snack on.. if you start now could loose 1 or 2 lbs a week so depending on when in April could loose a fair amount. Just concentrate on healthy eating and not the scales getting on too often can make you panic. Good luck

Hi Lindy27,

I started menopause at 38 and had to learn some good tips on trying to keep my weight down and how to control some of my other symptoms. Since I am going through menopause at an early age, my menopause is worse than what it would be if I experienced it at an older age. I have been fluctuating around the same weight for about 7 months now. I know what will work for me, may not work for others. So this is some of the things I have learned:

1. Drink plenty of water.

2. No pop or very sugary drinks

3. Cut back on sugary snacks, I eat celery with a tiny amount of ranch dressing or plain and plenty of veggies.

4. I sleep with my legs propped above my heart. It helps with water retention.

5. Sweet potatoes are your best friend. Helps with estrogen. I only eat lean turkey filets or lean chicken cooked in coconut oil.

6. On days you notice water retention or bloating, a water pill helps tremendously.

Oh I take black cohosh two times a day, it has helped with hot flashes. I can't do anything without sweating out of two outfits a day. But the black cohosh combined with fans and ice packs, I can keep my body heat and sweat down.

I hope that are able to use some or all of my tips and that they help you. Have a great day.

♥️ Lyssa
