Hello all

I was just browsing InSite at work and came across this. I have recently given up SW as I was getting fed up of being controlled by syn values ha ha as well as paying £5 for no reason in my eyes. I have a whopping 100kg to lose so thought I would give this a go. I have lost 5 stone over the past few years through various diets and by increasing my activity level.

Over the past few weeks I have gotten back into swimming and swim 4-5 times a week for 45 minutes. Hopefully this will give me a boost! My main down fall is that glass of wine at the end of the day but that is a work in progress also :)

Just thought I would say hello and would love to hear about your journeys and how your weight loss is going :)

Thanks

Hello Cooper1239 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Well done on the changes you have made already, losing 5 stone is incredible and should be congratulated, as well as swimming regularly. 😀

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you would usually have a 'Newbie' badgebut ive given you your 5 stone badge to reflect your success so far 😀

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

That's great to hear Cooper1239 😀

If you wish you could join today weigh-in or any other day that you prefer. I also like the Daily Diary as this really helps em keep on track. 😀

Hi welcome! I hope you find thecforum supportive and friendly. I would set yourself mini goals. I set mine at 7lb each. It feels doable in about 2 or 3 weeks. Looking at big picture can be daunting at times. You will see results as you go which you can measure by how many clothes you get to send to charity. Good luck 🤞

Thank you Ella. Yes I'm 2lb away from the next stone bracket so that is my goal for this week :) just about to hit the pool as I have a 16km challenge I need to finish by 24th June ha ha ha although I am currently 11.6km through it so I should be okay :D looking forward to exploring the site properly tomorrow xx

Can I just ask what you do to manage 7lb in 2/3 weeks? I'm currently only losing 1lb a week and then I stick for a week then I maybe lose 2lb the following week. Id like to hear your tips. Also new to this as well.

Hi Kirstyanne, my weight loss fluctuates greatly each week depending on diet, period, etc. In all honesty I don't follow a strict diet and I don't restrict myself too much. Because of the swimming I tend to eat a lot of proteins to help my muscles repair but other than that I think it is a case of finding what works for you. The weeks when I have had a bad meal or a takeout actually tend to be the weeks I lose! Everybody is different though. Make sure that you're eating enough of the right foods is the best advice I can offer :D when your body is restricted then it tends to hold on to the weight a bit more than normal so make sure you're feeding it enough :)

Thanks will give that a go then, hopefully start losing a bit more than 1lb a week. Just as you say that, I had a bad weekend (family party) couldn't stay away from the buffet and managed to weigh 3lb lighter the next day 😊 just hope it stays off tho.

Hi Cooper

I have also just joined as I was fed up of SW! It wasn't just the £5 a week, it was the coat of the food shopping every week just to make the recipes!

congratulations on losing 5 stone- huge achievement.

I am wanting to lose 45kg to take me into my recommended weight range. It would be great to swap tips with you and encourage each other along in our weight loss journeys?

Good luck!

Charlotte 😊

Sure I would love to swap tips :) I know the shopping list was so expensive and I hated having to go to different stores just to get a certain brand of something.

Thank you, I never really saw it as a great thing until recently when I looked back and realized some people struggle on these journeys for a number of years.

My number one tip so far after last night is don't drink a bottle and a half of wine on a school night ha ha ha! Nice healthy salad for lunch today, egg, cheese, ham, tom, cucumber and spring onion.

Also I don't know if you have heard of them but Ryvita thins have been a life saver. Only 30 cal each and I tend to have low fat cheese spread and loads of veggies on top of mine. They're delicious and at such low calories you can have a fair few without feeling like you're over indulging :)

xx

I too gave up on SW and started looking at calories instead. I find I'm virtually eating a normal diet and never feel hungry within the NHS calorie allowance and lost a stone. No need to stop as its so easy. I only lose a pound a week but it was the same on SW. I'm in no hurry.
