Hi everyone,

This is the 'Afternoon/Evening Session' of the Fab 5'ers Monday weigh-in group, so please post in this thread if you're weighing in with us this afternoon and/or this evening!

The Morning Session has gone really well, and please have a look at the thread if you want to catch up with how everyone is doing there:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh....

To all you Afternoon and/or Evening Monday Group weighers - I wish you an enjoyable weigh-in. One of the Fab 5'ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and myself, Lowcal) will ensure we respond to you. But please be patient with us, as we do have other commitments and might not be able to reply straight away. By the end of the day, everyone will have received a response from one or more of us.

Ruth_Canal_Runner (our lovely Fab 5'er and stats woman) as compiled our stats from last Monday's thread, which makes great reading:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 119.

Total overall weight lost: 89.9 pounds (40.8 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 70 (119.5 pounds lost) (54.2 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 16.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 7.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 2.

If you're joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals - setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements - sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It's not all about the scales afterall - it's how you feel in yourself.

You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you'll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).

The Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner and Moreless) will ensure that anyone who contributes to this thread will have a response from one or more of us at some point in the day.

My weigh-in today went well, as I lost 1.8 pounds, so I am now 13 stone 0.4 pound, and my goal for next week is to get into the 12's! I am planning on keeping up my exercise (gym sessions, walks and strength exercises), eating well, and not having any snacks after my evening meal.

Wishing you all a great weigh-in.

Lowcal :-)

I will be back later.

Hi everyone! So this is my first ever Monday weigh in with you all. I’ve decided to jump back on my diet, and since my last weigh in I have gained 0.6lbs. Which I think is great seen as I’ve ate about 6 slices of birthday cake this week. Oops.

Original Start Weight: 15.3.5 Waist Size: 44 inches.

Weight Today: 11.9.8 Waist Size: 35.5 inches.

My first target is to get down to 11 stone!

Well done Lowcal on your loss! Good luck on getting into the 12 stone bracket.

Hi and welcome Steph :)

I'm absolutely delighted that you've decided to join us and your stats are absolutely amazing! :) I don't think it'll take you long to reach that 11st target.

Will you be following the NHS 12 week plan?

I know that technically you're not a newbie, but I'm going to give you the link to our newbie thread, to see if any of it will help you with motivation :)

Yes I will be following the 12 week plan as my main goal is to be between 10st - 10st.7. The smaller targets tend to help me stay on track. I managed to lose all that weight through food consumption so its now time to up the exercise (off for a swim later :))

I never knew about the NHS 12 week plan last Jan when I started healthy eating but I did stick to a 1,300 calorie diet and it did the trick.

Thank you for the thread links they'll definitely help motivation on this last stretch. You may see me shortly in the Around the World challenge!

Afternoon all. No weight change for me this week which is disappointing but not unexpected after 3 meals out. Damage limitation by no alcohol and no puds has meant no gain either so I guess it's not so bad.

Focus this week....increase mileage. Hope to get 10kms per day (weather permitting) no alcohol and plan meals. Out tonight but apart from that it's back on track. Soup made so fingers crossed for next Monday.

Good luck to all checking in today.mtge main thing is to think positive...hard I know with the bad weather but Spring is just around the corner. We have blue skies today...yippee x

Afternoon well done on your weight loss. The 12s are in sight :-) I've actually lost 0.8 pound. Not sure how as I've not logged my food but there we go. After 4 weeks of feeling dreadful I finally feel good today. Yay!! I did Maxine experimentation last week. I was interested to see the effects of sugar/bad food on me. So Monday it was cream cakes, the whole works day. I felt worse and worse throughout the day and woke feeling cold full, coughy and pants Tuesday. Tuesday was good food day - nuts or porridge as snacks, wholesome meals. And I felt better and better through the day and woke up well Wednesday. Wednesday I ate badly, same result. Thursday and Friday I ate well - feeling good Saturday! I've never noticed that effect before and I presume it was because I've been so ill that the food was tipping me over the edge. So I could see that eating badly, my body has fought the food-toxins so I feel fine that day and the next morning, but it's not been able to do it's basic health and repair to me, which is why I succumbed so badly to the lurgy? After all it followed 2 or 3 very naughty Christmas/New Year/Birthday weeks? So this week, I'm not logging my calories. I'm going to try really hard to not eat after 8 (naughty snacking time but when I ride in the evening I don't get home until then so I'm allowed a meal and that's it!), eat porridge (I buy it in sachets) when cakes appear at work, and I'm going into week 2 of my fun run plan with the mini Shetland. We found ourselves running with a running club yesterday - he loves an audience so he made the run ever so easy as he was showing off and all chipper :-) I'm aiming for a healthy feeling good week this week with wholesome food! Good luck for next week everyone!

morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toMaxine5555

What a lovely perky post Maxine. Things are really coming together for you :)

Feeling well after such a long time being poorly must be such a relief. Losing weight when things haven't exactly been on an even keel. Recognising the impact of nutritious food vs junk food on your body. Your fun run plan going so well, due to an extrovert Shetland. These are all such positive things and with your planned healthy eating this week, I'm sure we'll see an even bigger loss on the scales next week :)

Hi I'm a newbie so no weight loss to report.

I'm 16 stone 10 lbs, waist 40 inches.

I'm 44 and the biggest I've ever been. I've put on a lot of weight since around this time last year (3 and a half stone). I suffered from severe depression. I am much better than I was; I've just about to finish 4 months of counselling, and I've stopped taking sertraline, I'm back at work. But my eating has become really messed-up while being really ill.

I want to get back in control. So my mini goal is actually not to put on any weight between now and next week, and to lose 4lbs before the end of February.

My ultimate goal is to lose the three and a half stone I've gained - that will put my BMI back to around 29 which is comfortable for me, and I'll feel much healthier than I do at present, even though its not ideal, it's realistic.

Afternoon Lowcal and all - and well done on that loss this week Lowcal. You are creeping ever closer to those 12s now. Good luck for getting there this week, I know how pleased you'll be ! :-)

I've only managed a 0.4lb loss this week, but not surprising really as we had a meal out on Friday night and I had a very bad eating day on Saturday (plum crumble with custard was involved !). Serves me right really :-)

Anyway, this week I'm going to try to make a good effort. Only 5lbs away from getting into the 10s !! (Wow - can't believe I said that !!)

Have a good week everyone ! :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

Tbh Lucca, I think a 0.4lb weight loss is pretty good really, considering you had a meal out and plum crumble and custard! (I'm so jealous) I suspect the loss is attributable to all that exercise you're doing! :)

OMG the 10's! That's a number I shall never see again, so you can tell me how good it feels when you arrive :)

Have a great week :)

in reply tomoreless

It was yummy :-) Yeah, the exercise is good, but I must try not to rely just on the exercise, as then if I can't manage it for whatever reason, I get stressed about missing it. I need to keep off the snacks as well (and the plum crumble !) :-)

Well done everyone in the morning thread and this one, I have really enjoyed reading about your commitment to weight loss and improving health.

This week I have lost 1.5lbs and am within sniffing distance of the 14s.

Something good happened this week that has really given me a boost to keep on going, despite a long journey behind me and still ahead of me.

Four years ago when the weight piled on, I had to take out my beloved belly button bar and replace it with a maternity plain acrylic one, but this week, I have refitted my lovely titanium pink one that is a normal size. It made me so happy :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toLessToLose

LtL, you are amazing! You've lost so much, in such a short amount of time and here you've lost another 1.5lbs and more significantly, you've got your beloved belly bar back in after a loooong 4 year wait. WTG you! :)

You're also about to break through into the 14's, along with many others of us on the verge of seeing a different number on the scales! :)

My only gripe, is that you're still a stone ahead of me! ;)

in reply toLessToLose

Hi LTL - that's so heartwarming to know you've got your pink titanium bar back where it belongs again! A happy tummy in more ways than one. Congrats on this week's loss. I hope you see a 14 on the scales very soon :)

in reply toLessToLose

Oooh - I feel quite faint at the thought of a belly button bar. I had my nose pierced once, and fainted away when that was occuring ! :-O

Congratulations anyway and you'll get to those 14s very soon :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

hahaha I did the same when I had my ears pierced! :D

Well, I weighed in this morning at 11 st 6 lbs which I am pleased with as I had a bad/good weekend. That's a 1 lb loss from last week and I was less on Friday so hopeful for this week I cannot get the site to let me post on the morning thread (which has been driving me mad for past half hour! ) so am posting it here.

Is there a cutoff or something?

All best everyone.

in reply to

There's no cutoff, but the site does seem to struggle with long threads, which is why we start a new one after a certain point.

Congrats on losing 1lb and for seeing an even better loss in Friday - hopefully the coming week will show even more. Lots of luck! :)

Hi Frankie,

Sorry to hear you struggled to post this morning Frankie. Like Ruth says, there's no actual cut-off, but the Afternoon/Evening thread (this one) is posted at midday (or thereabouts), and we split the threads because the site can handle it better that way - they were getting too long when we left it all in one thread.

Congratulations on your 1 pound loss this week, that's excellent! :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi there,

I lost 2.6lb last week. I'm trying to stick to 1200-1300 cal diet and do 90 min of walking everyday.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toarbitdude

Hi Arbitdude, that's a great loss, but is there a reason for sticking to such a low number of calories? Generally, the NHS guidelines state 1400 calories for women, as a minimum :)

The walking's fantastic, but you didn't come back to the Around the World thread to post your K's. It's not to late to do it :)

arbitdude profile image
arbitdude in reply tomoreless

Hi moreless,

Thanks for your reply. 1200 calorie is the number suggested by MyFitnessPal & Livestrong apps for me to lose about 2 pounds every week considering my height and weight. It is very hard to eat just 1200 cal everyday. Frequently, I eat 1300 and sometimes 1400 calories.

I added the km number (9km today) to the other thread.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toarbitdude

I'd like you to check your calorie allowance on the NHS BMI calculator, to see if it is the same. Here's the link

nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...

Well done for posting your K's :)

arbitdude profile image
arbitdude in reply tomoreless

The calculator gives 1675 cal as the number to lose 1-2(?) lbs per week. So, I'll up the intake slightly. Thanks!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toarbitdude

My pleasure :)

My advice is to eat as many as you can whilst still losing weight, otherwise, when you lose weight, you'll have nowhere to reduce your calories to. I hope that makes sense :)

Just joined and to be honest I've never tried writing on forums, so here goes. I'm 69 in May, (although my head tells me I'm still 21) and have had to watch my weight since forever. It certainly seems true that the older you get the harder it is and I now weigh 13st. 11lbs and at 5'6" I know that is way too heavy. The dreaded arthritis is starting to rear it's ugly head, although I'm lucky as it doesn't stop me exercising too much, especially walking, although I do have to be sensible, which is difficult as I've never been that at the best of times! Not much I don't know about calories but continuous motivation is my problem, especially when you reach a 'certain age' and are retired there are more meals out with friends, days out and holidays or short breaks that can scupper even the most strong willed. Still working my way around the website so fingers crossed and good luck to everyone.

Hi

I have just been on a diet and doing exercise for a week now. Last year I went from 18 stone to 11 and a half stone but it was a shake diet so I have gone back up to 13 and a half. This week I have lost 2lb which is way more sensible than the drastic weight loss that i had last year. I am doing couch to 5k going to the gym 4 times a week & I have an app which counts calories. My target weiht is 12 and a half stone. Thank you to the people who run this site it is giving me so much motivation. Good luck everyone ☺

Congratulations for losing 2 pounds this week, that is excellent! Glad to hear you're enjoying having a more gradual weight loss than you experienced last year, it is definitely a healthier way to lose weight generally.

Great that you're doing the Couch to 5k and also attending the gym regularly - hope you're enjoying both of those activities.

Great that you have an app to help you count the calories, it does make it much easier.

Thanks for sharing your starting weight today, and I can appreciate that's a big step to take, so really do think you've done well to share that today.

Great that you're feeling motivated as that's such a great incentive going forward.

I have been busy allday so can't get a weigh in. Not expecting it to be a good one as I have had friends birthdays and been stuck in the car all week. May post tomorrow if that's alright?

Hi ScoobaSteve,

Great to see you! Sometimes it's tough to get time to do the weigh-in, so glad you made it now. Yes, it's fine for you to post tomorrow, I will check the thread for late weighers in anycase, and Moreless often does that too, or another Fab 5'er, so we won't miss you!

Thanks for your encouragement, which is much appreciated. I love your positivity that I will get into the 12's this week - I must think positively myself on that one. Then I will hopefully finally achieve it!

Catch up with you tomorrow, and good luck for your weigh-in.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Lowcal well done on your weight loss. Keep going! I have lost 0.5lb this week and just squeezed into the 13's at 13stone 13.5lb! I am relatively pleased as I have not walked so much this last week due to business and wet weather! Also I had a choc attack so bought a choc Orange. My average net daily calorie intake was just above what myfitnesspal calculated but still below 1600kcal per day. Feel I don't deserve to have lost even 0.5lb. Will try a bit harder this week (I hope)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

Pog, if you've lost 1/2lb, it's because you've deserved to lose 1/2lb :) Check your mfp calorie allowance against the NHS BMI calorie allowance and I can virtually guarantee that the mfp will be lower. If you've come in below the upper limit of the NHS calculator allows, you're doing a terrific job and that chocolate orange was a well deserved treat! :)

You may find that you only need to do a little tweaking food wise and the pounds will start to drop :)

Maybe you'd like to consider joining us on the Around the World challenge for a bit of motivation :)

Have a great week! :)

Sorry to hear you've not had any loss this week, but does that mean you've maintained your weight, as that is definitely better than a gain.

Do you have any ideas what you could do to help you to have a good week ahead? Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? It is a good structure, and has some good information and advice.

Hi Marian,

Thanks for confirming that, well done for maintaining. Hope your chest infection resolves very soon, and do take care. I pushed myself when I had a chest infection last February and I regretted it as I ended up with recurrent infections (about 3 in total) and it took ages to shift, so please do take it easy. Hopefully yours will get better very soon, all being well.

You mentioned that you're feeling better now, so hopefully you're getting close to recovery now.

Thank you, I have a genetic condition, Alpha One Antitrypsin Deficiency, basically short story, I can't fight chest infections and any cough or cold can lead to horrid complications. It's a inherited condition, with similar symptoms to CPD, hence exercise has to be built up slowly. Antibiotics and steroids live in my medicine cabinet permanently. Thank you for your good wishes.

Bad luck Marian, I know how disappointing that can be, but take heart from the fact that a maintain is better than a gain and there could be any one of a number of reasons why it happened.

Keep the faith and stick to plan and it'll all come right next week :)

I have been rubbish at this weight loss lark :( while I lost for the first week, my weight has remained constant since. I suppose I should be glad that I have not put on.

I have not given up but have gone off the boil. As I often do... There has been a series of events, visits, trips, meals out etc that have all happened,? not an excuse but a reason But don't think I have anything planned for this week so lets see if this week is the one.

Your emails and reminders and seeing how well others do is still making me determined and I do want to be a different shape by summer.

OH away now unit the end of March - so that gives me 6 weeks of trying.

Watch this space !

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toGill3000

Hi Gill,

Firstly, I would like to thoroughly challenge your assertion that you have been 'rubbish at this weight loss lark' because the truth is that you've lost weight in your first week, and despite having several events, visits, trips and meals out etc, you've managed to maintain that initial weight loss, which is a definite success in my book. It would have been very easy to put on in those circumstances.

The second and very important factor I notice in your post is that you are feeling determined to continue, and that whilst you feel that you have 'gone off the boil', you are nevertheless not giving up, and you've already got a sense that the next 6 weeks are a good opportunity to keep trying, and whilst your OH is away, hopefully you can make some excellent strides.

So, I'm really pleased to hear you say 'Watch this space!' because I am anticipating some great things - no pressure of course, in saying that, but I really do think you could achieve quite a bit and when your OH gets back, just think how great it will be for him to compliment you on being slimmer by then. I think you will be.

Go for it Gill, you can do it!

Hi Fab 5ers and everyone,

Well done to the losers and maintainers, it's with real pleasure that I read some, especially you Lowcal, are nearly in the next stone down. Great going 😀

I was 11st 3.8lbs last week and am now 11st 2.6lbs, so a 1.2 lb loss. My goal is to be in the 10s by the end of February, slow and reasonably steady so it will stay off. Best thing is though, I have moved from obese to overweight (a lot overweight still but not obese)! Yippee.

Now on week 7 of the 12 week plan, but still can't exercise. I should get a diagnosis this week and am hopeful that I can start doing more soon.

Onwards and downwards - this wagon's rockin!

Hi Lowcal, very well done on your loss, excellent stuff! Good luck for next week, I hope you'll be celebrating the 12's!

I lost 1/4 pound this week, which I'm pleased with as I'd half expected to put weight on, given my weekend food choice! In my defence, it was partly an accident that I ended up with so much food.

I made chicken and bacon carbonara on Saturday, complete with proper job tagliatelle, as it was something I was kind of yearning for, and I only usually have it once or twice a year. Unfortunately, I followed an online recipe which says it serves 2, because it used lower fat creme fraiche and wasn't too fiddly to make. All I can say is, "Wow, those two people must have really good appetites!". I had already decided to have it reheated for Sunday's dinner too, given that it supposedly served 2 people. Having made it, and realising the sheer volume of it as I was serving it onto my plate, I knew I was in trouble! I'd already had breakfast on Saturday and was waiting it out for the carbonara, skipping lunch on purpose as I knew it would be a good chunk of calories. On Sunday, I still felt full in the morning!!! I ended up reheating it at about 3pm and having just that to cover the whole day's meals, I just had a cereal bar in the evening and a couple squares of dark chocolate. I have definitely learned from this experience...if and when I make it again (probably next year lol!) I will cut the ingredients in half and still make it do two days.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it and somehow managed to shift a tiny bit of weight so it's all good. Hopefully next week might show a slightly bigger loss though.

Hope you all had a good weekend. :-)

suzybenj profile image
suzybenj in reply toWeightWarrior

:-) all to the good then - not to much damage and you 'managed' it so you had what you wanted but compensated and weight loss too. Great news:-)

Good luck for next weeks sans carbonara:-)

morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toWeightWarrior

Oh my gosh WW, I think everybody's out to torture me today with all the foods that I love! Now here's you doing it with carbonara! Is this a gang up on moreless day, or what?! ;)

I was thinking, I bet a few short months ago you would have served that carbonara up, as per recipe guidelines and thought nothing of it! Look how far you come! WTG you! :)

You even managed a 1/4lb loss! You are amazing! :)

I've also decided for lent to give up all sweet things chocolate cake the lot (minus a slice of birthday cake for my partners birthday ;))

Try some water before each meal. Drink it slowly. Just drink loads of water....fill up with it. Then your portions can go down. You will feel fuller earlier. But don't guzzle. It will bloat you.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toHappymary

Hi Happymary,

Hope you don't mind me adding a note of caution here - just in terms of your suggestion that more water is drunk. I agree it's good to ensure a person drinks adequate water as part of their daily intake (I think recommendations are about 8 glasses of water per day, if my memory serves me right), but it can be potentially dangerous to over-consume water, so suggesting that Mummybrummy drinks 'loads of water....fill up with it' wouldn't be a necessarily safe suggestion.

I hope you don't think I'm being overly-cautious here, but I'd rather say that than risk someone over-consuming water and becoming unwell - and I believe that excessive over-consumption of water can be very dangerous, as people have died from doing it (especially in situations where they were over-hydrating in races etc). It's relatively rare I think, but it does happen.

Sorry if I seem over-cautious, but I'd rather be over-cautious if it prevents someone from being potentially unsafe.

Lowcal :-)

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to write an update re: Candystripe, incase anyone is wondering how she's getting on:

Some of you may remember that Candystripe's husband had an operation earlier this week (on Thursday I think), and the procedure has gone well, and he is currently recuperating under Candystripe's excellent care - she is enjoying time with him before he returns to his work, and after that she will be returning to us in the Monday weigh-in group, and she's looking forward to catching up with everyone, but in the meantime she sends her best regards to everyone who knows her.

Incase you're reading this Candystripe, I'm so glad things went well and we'll look forward to catching up with you when you next weigh-in with us. Good luck on the weight front in the meantime, and hope your husband continues to recuperate well.

Thanks for sharing your starting weight, as I know that's a very brave step. Hopefully you'll be your heaviest today, and will be well on your way to your first target to be below 13 stone very soon.

I would recommend taking a look at the NHS 12 week plan - infact I'll pop back in a moment with one of Moreless's 'Welcome Newbie' packs, as that would definitely be worth a read through, when you have some time - there's a lot of really good things in it, about what's available within the forum, and things people have highlighted.

Here are the links, the first one is to the NHS 12 week plan:

nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...

Many people use an app like Myfitnesspal to help them to keep track of the food and drink intake. But I'd recommend putting your details into the BMI NHS calculator to find out your recommended calorie range - as it is specific to your height, weight and activity levels.

The second is to Moreless's 'Welcome Newbie' pack:

Good evening - so, weigh-in at the end of a 14-hour shift and 500kcal day...the result is I have lost a massive 2.4Kg or 5lb!! Putting me in at 65.5kg. Would normally celebrate, but keeping level headed. This is a common pattern for me - big water loss at the beginning, plateau, give up, binge, re-start at a heavier weight after a few months. That said, I'm super positive about next week, I've planned my 5:2 days, avoiding sugar & booze on my 'normal' days. Good luck to everyone else with late night weigh-ins 😝

Wow 1.8 pounds!! I am so pleased for you.

I only lost .4 of a pound this week down from 11stone 6.8 to 11 stone 6.4 but I guess it's in the right direction!

Got the Myfitness pal app this week, and it has cut me down to 1360 calories instead of 1400 which is a bit of blow but maybe that is why I was not losing so fast? I have stuck to it for two days but certainly feel the loss of that extra 100 or so calories!

I also hope having the app will help me track better though I can't work out how to just enter a food I know the calories for- you seem to have to search and choose a branded item from all their lists.

I'm posting late so don't worry if it's TOO late- I don't expect an answer, it's just good for me psychologically to check in!

suzybenj profile image
suzybenj in reply totubbycat

Hey TC - we are here. Well done onthe 0.4 lost ---it is all in the downwards direction:-)

Yes- losing the extra calories is a bit of a blow - but you do get used to it and you can earn extra calories by doing some sort of exercise - you can add this on MFP. Although exercise is not give as much as you might think. On the quick add calories - it is just that on each item - breakfast, lunch etc there is quick add button.

Good luck for next week:-)

Hi tubbycat,

On MyFitnessPal, click on the meal you want to add food for, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. You have the option to either create a new food or quick add which is just the calorific value. If you have a regular meal, once you have added it in full once, you can click on the button on the right hand side just under the meal which is '...More', this gives a few options one of which is to save the meal, then it is quick to add in future. You can also use this button to do a quick add of the calories. You have probably worked all this out for yourself now, but just in case you haven't.

Have a great week.

tubbycat profile image
tubbycat in reply toAnon-E-Mouse

no I hadn't worked it out and I still can't!!!! But thanks for trying. It's just when I scroll down there simply isn't quickadd so far as I can see. I have tried the create a new food option and then it won't accept the portion size. Never mind I have read online that the android version of this app is terrible so maybe I will try another one- any ideas?? I am prepared to pay!! (but not for an i phone!)

Many thanks anyway and it is back to the spread sheet on my computer for now....

Only 4.8lb to go before I come out of the overweight range of the BMI chart. So my target is to lose at least 1.6 lb a week to reach BMI 25 by the end of the month.

The fact you gained 5.5 pounds since last week and went back into the 18's would indeed have been a shock, but in terms of the fact you were suffering from bronchitis - and therefore couldn't exercise - I think it's important not to pay too much attention to the weight gain, as once you are back to your normal routine and health - it will soon disappear again fairly quickly.

The dangers (as you know) are over-eating in the meantime, due to feeling despondent, so I know you consoled yourself with the lovely ice-cream (happens to be my most favourite flavour!), but hopefully you are going to enjoy a better week ahead, now your chest has recovered, and your life is getting back to normal. I think you'll be back on track this week - and next week when you weigh in I'm sure those extra pounds will be history! :-)

Feel free to whinge as much as you like, anytime, you're only off-loading the stresses you've clearly been facing, and most people would feel similarly in your circumstances, as fighting bronchitis or any kind of illness is really tough! Well done for surviving, and getting through it, and here's to a healthier you this week going forward.

Really glad you came and posted afterall - we would have missed you!

Take care,

Lowcal :-)

Hello

Weighing in late following my return late last night from London. No way was I weighing myself last night! Was half dreading getting on the scales because I was expecting a gain though hoping for a maintain. Had promised myself that although there would be no calorie counting there would at least be sensible eating.

Well, we went down Friday evening and I would like to say it started well but it didn't. Friday was BAD. Just too many calories, including small glass of wine and an iced currant bun. Saturday night was a pizza and a glass of wine. Sunday was a full Sunday roast and, oh yes, a glass of wine. Monday was a cooked breakfast (no bacon and just one sausage though) and a bagette later in the afternoon. Oh, and did I mention the wine? Another glass in an upmarket bar before we got our train home.

So you can see why I was not particularly looking forward to the scales this morning. I was keeping my fingers for a maintain though the sensible half of my brain was telling me not to be ridiculous, it will be a gain. And the meanest part of my brain was saying 'oh, and after what you ate and drank, expect to be a BIG one sunshine! So .......... on to the scales I went and peered at it through one half closed eye, and promptly fell off with a rather perplexed look on my face. Do I get back on again, just to make sure? Not likely!

start weight: 12st 4lbs

last week: 11st 12lbs

this week: 11st 11lbs

A loss of 1lb for the week! And 7lbs overall.

It is probably all the walking I did. We tend to spend most of the day walking all over the place.

i have not really read what others have done this week. Congratulations to those who lost and commiserations to those who gained - or maintained and are not happy. This is a new week with new goals so keep looking forward. Looking back is only going to have you banging into a lamppost.

And lowcal, that was an amazing loss. Had you gained half a pound last week due to Sunday lunch with the family? That means your hard work has paid off this week and you lost that gain and then some ...... over three times what you gained! You must be feeling great.

Off to the dentist now. Ouch!

Hi Alisonayb,

I enjoyed reading your weigh-in post today - it just shows how you can achieve a good balance between eating out on a weekend away, and doing lots of activity walking around - many Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, and to achieving a total loss of 7 pounds. Wow! That is great progress. :-)

It sounds like you had an enjoyable time in London, and what a lovely way to start the week with a loss on the scales.

Thanks for your encouraging words to me. You're right, I did gain previously due to a family Sunday lunch out, and so did manage to get rid of that plus extra - so I was definitely very pleased!

Here's to another excellent week ahead for all of us!

Have a great day, and hope that your dental appointment is ok.

Hi Pollypetal,

Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in, and thanks for sharing your starting weight with us today. I hope that felt ok to do so, and I hope you have a great first week. Are you doing the NHS 12 week plan? You can access it via the icon in the top middle of the screen, entitlted 'Weight Loss NHS' and it's very good, full of information and a good structure. Many people use an app like Myfitnesspal to help to record the food and drink intake side of things, as well as any exercise you might be doing.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and look forward to seeing you in future weigh-ins, and hopefully around and about in the forum as well.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Pollypetal,

That's great! Just ensure you let Fizzyliz (the Around the World challenge organiser) know that you're a new joiner and she can add your name to the list, so your kms will be counted. It's a great and motivating challenge, and she has posted today's threads already I think. Just look out for her name.

Hi Emilou,

That's ok, it's good to see you! :-)

You said you'd eaten a lot of food since last Monday, so you might not therefore be too surprised that you gained a pound - hopefully you'll be able to have a better week ahead. Maybe pre-plan some meals and snacks, so you can eat the amount that you want to eat.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you a good week ahead.

thank you so much Lowcal :-D yeah, i've been a pig. but exercising is becoming a daily event, which is good. i'm walking with spurts of running for 30 mins a day. recognise i really need to up my game otherwise i'm not going to see changes. fed up with myself of playing about with getting rid of one pound then putting it back on. this is going to be harder than i thought... :-) XOX o and congrats to everyone else XOX

Hi Emielou,

I think it's great that you're walking with spurts of running for 30 mins a day - that is great exercise!

You're sounding determined, so maybe try to pre-plan some meals and snacks, even if it's a day at a time, and hopefully you'll be seeing more consistent weight loss, going forward.

Have a great week.

Hi Strife67,

Great to see you, and Congratulations on achieving 1 pound off when you weighed on Monday evening. I know that Ruth has already done our weekly stats in preparation for next Monday's weigh-in, but I will ensure that your result is included, as I will be posting the thread on Monday morning as usual - so rest assured that your result will be included there.

I'm really glad you're feeling happy - that's a good feeling, and wishing you a great weekend, and look forward to your next result at Monday's weigh-in.
