Hi everyone,

This Monday Group weigh-in is run by the Fab 5'ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, Moreless and me, Lowcal). If you weigh in with us today (using the 'morning thread' for morning weigh-ins, and the Afternoon/Evening thread for later weigh-ins, then one or more of us will respond to you at some point - we do have other commitments, but we will ensure everyone receives a response.

The weekly stats for last Monday's thread have been done by our great stats woman, Ruth_Canal_Runner, and make very encouraging reading:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 119.

Total overall weight lost: 89.9 pounds (40.8 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 70 (119.5 pounds lost) (54.2 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 24 (29.6 pounds gained) (13.4 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 16.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 7.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 2.

If you're arriving here around midday, and the afternoon post hasn't been posted yet, then please continue to use this one - the posting of the afternoon thread may vary, but I will endeavour to do it as close to midday as I can manage.

****************************************************************

N.B. The Afternoon/Evening thread has been posted and here is a link to it:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh....

******************************************************************

OK, I'll kick off with my weight-loss for this week:

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 2.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 0.4 pound, so I've lost 1.8 pounds this week. I am happy about this, as it means that I hope to get into the 12's for next Monday's weigh-in. So that is my goal for this week. I hope to continue my gym sessions and walks, and healthy eating, and try not to eat snacks after my evening meal.

If you are joining this weigh-in group for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals - setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements - sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It's not all about the scales afterall - it's how you feel in yourself.

You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you'll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).

The Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner, and Moreless) will ensure that anyone who contributes to this thread will have a response from one or more of us at some point in the day.

Wishing you all a great weigh-in!

Lowcal :-)

Hi Diana,

Many thanks. :-)

You are doing fantastically at maintaining your weight, and Congratulations on achieving 10 stone 4.25 pounds, and to being the lowest weight you've been since you were 29 years old. That is fantastic!

Do you know how much weight you lost since last week, so we can add it to our stats?

Wishing you a great day and really good week ahead.

Thank you Lowcal :-)

Forgot to post my results. This week I have maintained again so still 10/10 which I am happy about, I do wish that there were some movement on the scale, but I have had some injuries to deal with recently. I did my back in and then followed the hip pain where I was out of action for 3 day so haven't been as active as I would like to have been and it's all happening the week before the big day.

My son asked me if we can go skating this weekend and as much as I want to I don't think I can risk another injury so I will pass on that and do this after the big day :-)

I am going to try this week to lose some weight what ever the number :-) lot's of final planning this week :-)

Have a wonderful, happy, exciting week Lowcal and I wish you every success in reaching your next goal :-)

Congratulations on maintaining - all the 10's seem to be your perfect number! I know you wanted to see a loss on the scales, but I think you've done fantastically, and I know you've had those injuries to contend with, so be kind to yourself and hope you cope ok with the week leading up to your Special Day!!! I am soooo excited!!! :-)

Having trouble leaving a reply tonight.

THANK YOU Lowcal

Yes all the 10's seem to be my perfect number and although I had hoped to lose I didn't get to put in all of the work and I am still very pleased to even be in the 10's :-) also I am so very grateful for everything and it's only a matter of time till those scales start moving again, you can bank on that :-) let me get married then I can fully focus on my journey and hopefully see the back of any future injuries. Final prep this week and off as of Thursday and can't wait WOOHOO :-)

Hi Hasna2015,

Really sorry to hear you've not been well last week with a fever and bad cough - you were very sensible to rest and not do any exercise, it's important to look after yourself in such circumstances, and I hope that you feel better really soon.

Well done for maintaining your weight though - maintaining is better than gaining.

Hopefully you'll be feeling much better really soon. Wishing you a good week ahead and a speedy recovery.

HI Gareth,

Congratulations on losing 3 pounds this week, that is brilliant! Also, achieving a total loss of 11 pounds in 5 weeks is really great progress. Also, the fact you've been doing this three times in 18 months, and so over that period of time you've lost 3 stone 7 pounds since then, is amazing. Really really well done. You must be feeling great! I hope so! :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Great result for you Lowcal. Those 12's are soooo close !

I have had a really bad few days food wise. Tuesday we went to the theatre and in order to eat before the show necessitated fast food. We went to Leon as they do offer healthier options but even so.... Friday we went to friends and had a Chinese takeaway. Saturday involved lunch with people I haven't seen for 38 years ( I was the only one not to have dessert but..) and last night was a curry....

So not at all surprised to see a gain of 0.5 kg .

This puts me at 55.5 kg, my highest weight since October and having looked at the graph I am not happy with the trend risng even though I am still towards the lower end of my maintenance range (55-57 kg)

I intend to aim to get back into the 54's where I settled for quite a while and reset my maintenance range to 53 to 55 kg.... I don't think this is unrealistic and with that Mauritian holiday approaching I would rather be a little lighter at the start, so if I gain there it won't be disastrous.

My aim this week is to lose 1 kg. ...

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply to2bFabnfit

Hi 2BFabnFit,

It sounds like you've had a really lovely and very social week - great that you caught up with those people you'd not seen for 38 years, and hope you enjoyed your curry last night. I also enjoyed an Indian meal last night, which was delicious! My first one since before Christmas! :-)

You've gained 0.5 kg, but I know that you'll soon get that off again with a more normal routine of week ahead. Like you say, you're still towards the lower end of your maintenance range, so you are still very successfully maintaining your weight.

Your plan to rest your maintenance range in view of your forthcoming Mauritian holiday sounds like a good plan - you are already very close to that window in anycase, so it won't take much for you to be in that window.

Wishing you success with your goal to lose 1kg this week - that could be tough as you are at so close to your ideal weight though - but you sound determined so I'm thinking you're going to be reporting it next week!

Lowcal :-)

morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply to2bFabnfit

2bFabnfit, you are amazing! You're so in control of yourself. You had heaps on and only gained 0.5kgs and you've stood back, looked at where you are and decided to rein yourself in even more. In my eyes, you're an absolute star! :)

2bFabnfit profile image
2bFabnfitβ€’ in reply tomoreless

Thanks Moreless. I have spent a lifetime Yoyo dieting and it has taken me years to realise that weekly weigh in is a necessity for me. Last year I took my eye off the ball for just 12 to 16 weeks and gained 5 and a half kg and went from healthy to unhealthy bmi.

I determined then that this time would be different. Not a diet but a lifestyle. No more yo yo.

Weighing in is part of that. Life happens and I enjoyed my social week to the full as the scales show. But I know I need to put a stop now or I will be back in the unhealthy bracket before long.

The accountability to you all is really helping me. That is why I am still here. I need you!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply to2bFabnfit

This is what I know I shall have to do. I've been on far too many diets to ever want to repeat the process. To get slim and stay slim is my goal now. Thank goodness I have people like you to show me the way, thank you :)

I've put 3lbs on and feel very annoyed at myself, I've got an event in April and I really want to be at least a stone lighter for it! I've walked loads and been really active but been working nonsense with eating and wine consumption so I'm off wine for rest of Feb and will work harder to achieve my goal! Have a good week everyone xx

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toCazmaz06

Hi Cazmaz06,

I know you're disappointed that you gained 3 pounds this week, but you have made some plans for this coming week to enable you to get back on track, and well done to you for tackling it head on. I think your plan to have a dry February for the remainder of the month should definitely help you, and I hear that you're intending to work harder to achieve your goal, so you have the determination to help you to succeed.

This week is likely to be a much better week for you as a consequence, and those 3 extra pounds will soon be a thing of the past, and you'll be on your way towards your goal, so you can achieve a lot between now and your event in April.

Have a great week ahead,

Lowcal :-)

Hi everyone

Week 6 Day 1

I weigh in this morning at 11 st 2.6lbs which is a loss of 1.6 lbs. This means that in the first 5 weeks of the plan I've lost 9.4 lbs and my bmi has dropped from an obese 30.5 to 28.8 and waist from 33 ins to 31 .5 ins. I feel so positive and know that the extra activity for me has made a huge difference. Still keeping to 1400 calories. Hope you all have a good week and keep that positive energy going.

Morning lowcal!

Well don! e in weight loss! Hope you enjoyed the Indian too. ☺

This morning I weighed in at

1104. 7 +0. 9lbs and my weekly average for last week was up 0. 8lbs.

Absolutely fine with this. Week 1 of illness didn't eat at all. Week 2, last week, getting back to normal meals.

Am delighted as my % fat has dropped from 39. 4% to 37. 8%. Wondering if this a result of 4 days overnight fasting of 16hours?

More fasting for me this week want to get the 16 hours the norm. And early nights! A week of 10. 30!

Have a good week everyone!

Goodness asics, you have it all very scientifically worked out - how very clever of you! :)

You're head is very firmly screwed on and your determination is going to allow you to see that checkered flag in next to no time. Hats off to you :)

I couldn't say whether the fasting is responsible for the reduction in fat percentage, or not, but it's a fab thing to be happening anyway. Good luck with the continued fasting and all your other goals :)

Great work losing 1.8 lbs this week Lowcal. It's all going in the right direction.

I'm still in maintenance mode. Had a little celebration at work for a colleague who was leaving and it did involve home-made cheesecake and brownies. I enjoyed them but knew when to stop. Anyway, pleased to report I'm down 100g to 52.4 kilos.

I set myself a target of 3 lbs this week, and after much hard work have lost.... 3lbs!

target for next week of 2.5 lbs to make the half stone mark.....

Good luck everyone.

Brilliant! So nice to approach a new number. Last week I weighed 76.5 and today I weigh 75.3, so a loss of 1.2kg. I have been daily weighing so I can now see how much variation there is across the week, but logging it in MFP means I can see the downward trend since Jan 2. This week I'm going to ignore the calories burned and only look at the eaten ones on MFP.

I'm going on hols on Sat so won't be able to weigh in next week. I'm going the land of bread, cheese and meat but I will be very active every day, so we'll see whether i can maintain!!

Daily weighing is quite an eye opener. I had no idea weight could fluctuate so much and it does help to keep you balanced if one day, out of the blue, it chooses to spike! :) As you say, as long as there's a general downward trend, then all's well with the world :)

I hope you have a lovely holiday and manage to maintain your weight. We'll look forward to hearing all about it when you return :)

Morning all. I'm super disappointed in getting on the scales this morning last week I was 12st 10.6lb and today I am 12st 11.2lb so I didn't lose my 2lb I wanted. I'm going to say I haven't put on much as it's lady time and I am a nightmare for retaining water so based on that I measured myself and I have managed to lose 3cm off my stomach and 2cm from my hips.....must he the new boogie bounce class I have taken up!

Morning Lowcal, morning everyone

Well done on your 1.8 lb loss Lowcal, I know that you have been very determined to get into the 12'2 and your goal is extremely close now. Good luck for next week.

I have managed to find you 1.8 lb plus a bit this week, I have gained 2 lb. To be honest I feel quite low at the moment, the wet miserable weather has finally worn me down. The total contrast to the warm sunny weather on holiday where it is so easy to get up in the morning and be active because you feel good to waking up very early on dark wet mornings, travel to work in the dark then travel home in the dark without really feeling like you see any daylight at all is really depressing. I am finding it so difficult to get back to the activity levels which felt so easy whilst I was away and I know that you warned me about the holiday blues it just seems to have bitten me on the bottom a few weeks down the line.

I know that I need to drag myself out of this miserable mood and need to find some motivation from somewhere to pull myself around. I'm going to set myself a modest goal this week to try and make sure that I achieve it without feeling more doom and gloom of failure. My goals this week, pilates tonight, 200 kettlebell swings and one cross-trainer session and to go back to basics writing down all of the calories that I eat/drink. My target weight loss to lose the 2 lb gain from last week but my biggest target is to improve my mood and get back on the wagon.

Congratulations to anyone that has lost/maintained this week and good luck to everyone for a productive week this week.

Aww mrsg, I'm so sorry you feel like this! :( Is it possible for you to get out for a walk in your lunch break? 2nd week, last week lost 2lb bringing me to 20.7, this week lost 1lb, so 20.6. This week was difficult, lots of social situations and hospital appointments. I wasn't fully in control of food that was on offer and had to make best choices from what was available. I had been expecting a gain, but the daily weighing gave me focus on Saturday & Sunday and I made a hearty, virtually fat free veg stew in slow cooker and I think that helped pull it back. Target for the coming week is to lose 2lb. Good luck all.

Hopefully you'll be seeing a loss on the scales next week as you're planning to start afresh and you're going to be well and truely back on the wagon. Well done you for your commitment and enthusiasm, it should help see you through!

Have a great week ahead.

What a fab thing, First timer here.

Doing shift work I can't always get to a weigh in at slimming clubs but love the morale of seeing the pounds / kgs falling of others, even if I had stayed same or gained when I went before.

Not been a yo yo dieter but through healthy eating, stopping unhealthy picking / snacking and swimming more, did for the first time in my life and with the help of a slimming club I lost nearly 4 stone but sadley have regained most. So with strengh and knowing what went wrong last time Im here !

weighed in this morning (14 .12 ) through this thread and being at home at this time of day and being a Monday you know you cant indulge in too many treats at weekend

So good time !!

Good luck to any more newbies and anyone else struggling

Hi Kath50,

We love welcoming newbies, and hope you'll enjoy being a part of our happy band of Monday group weighers - it's a good point that some slimming clubs with fixed times and involving going to the physical base of the group are therefore restricting for people like yourself who do shift-work. At least with our 'virtual weigh-in group' people can pop in at whatever time of day and/or evening as we are literally around on Mondays and cover all the hours that Monday has to offer.

Firstly, many congratulations to you for achieving a loss of nearly 4 stone with the help of a slimming club - that is a fantastic achievement. I know you've regained most of that weight, but like you say, you iknow where you went wrong last time, and you're here to start again, and hopefully it can be a lifestyle change that will enable you to lose the weight and keep it off in the future. I'd recommend the 12 week NHS plan from that point of view, as it is really sensible and easy to follow - and I have been following the principles for about 3 years now, and am happy to be in the healthy BMI range and it isn't a hassle - it's a healthy and sustaining way of life. Easy to follow.

I'm also glad to hear you like the fact this weigh-in is on a Monday - I chose it initially for a Monday as I knew it would help motivate me over the weekends, which can be very challenging otherwise. It definitely has helped me to survive the weekends better - and I hope it does the same for other people.

You've shared your starting weight, and thank you for doing that, as I know it's a brave step to share that first weight - hopefully this will be the heighest weight you'll be, and you'll be seeing some losses on the scales from here on in. Most people lose more in their first week, and then usually it levels out to between 1 and 2 pounds per week, but it does vary between people, and also the scales can sometimes stick or even gain, which can feel inexplicable at the time, but can be down to normal fluctuations (hormonal, water retention, salty foods, lots of reasons). Many people take their body measurements at the start so that you can compare these over time, which can be incredibly motivating when there's a week where the scales don't play ball - the cms or inches can tell a different story.

Hope you enjoy your first week, and we'll look forward to catching up with you again next week.

Lowcal :-)

I have started reading a few posts from the weigh in this morning and it all sounds really positive, even where there was 0.5kg gain it was following a week of eating out!

I am really happy to have lost again. I had a houseful of people up here to watch the rugby so difficult to manage and no exercise since Thursday but:

Started 11 st 13 llb

Week one 11st 9 lb

Week two 11st 6lbs 8oz

Week three 11st 4lb 8oz so 2 more gone!

I am going to be really strict this week, off to Dubai on Friday night( all inclusive!) How hard is that going to be? I'm so looking forward to it and will try very hard not to undo all the work so far. there is a gym there and a tennis court so can keep active.

Good luck everyone. I will be watching from afar and posting kms this week hopefully.

Hi Suzymac,

Yes, it is very motivating to read the posts isn't it. Definitely makes a good read to inspire and motivate.

Really glad to hear you've lost 2 pounds this week, that is fantastic! :-) Great to see your progress over time too, you're making excellent progress.

Lovely to hear you have an all inclusive holiday in Dubai to look forward to, and you'll be off on your travels on Friday. Great that there is a gym and tennis court there too, so you can enjoy lots of activities and also enjoy the delicious food and drink available. Hopefully you'll achieve the balance you want to achieve, and you won't undo your hard work. Wishing you the best of luck, and most of all have a wonderful holiday.

We'll look forward to catching up with you again when you get back. In the meantime, have a wonderful time.

What a lovely positive post Suzymac :)

You're not only pleased with your own progress, which is absolutely stunning, but you're pleased for and motivated by, everyone else, which is exactly what Lowcal intended when she started this thread 3 years ago. I'm delighted! :)

How fantastic to be going on an all inclusive holiday to Dubai and I can understand your slight concern, but am sure that with your excellent track record, you'll make full use of the gym and tennis court and will be mindful with the food and alcohol and will manage to at least maintain while you're away :)

I can't wait to hear all about it when you return :)

Morning all! NOt sure if this is the right thing to do, but here goes!

Well done to everyone having lost in the last week, and for those who haven't lost, for posting anyway! I think it's so important to recognise if we have a bad week, that way we can learn and develop!

So, after months of "bad weeks" I finally climed the scales to record a 13st 10.

After mainly ADDING lots of fruit (eating more, I think?!) I've lost a whopping 5lb! Very pleased, if somewhat surprised! The thing is, I have a condition that flares with high fibre foods so need to cut back on the fruit. Which means a high fat and high fibre diet. No refined carbs.

I also want to commit to 10 mintues focused physical activity a day (I normally get my 10K steps in, so will increase that to 11K too) and see how that changes things. I definitely want to work on my strength and flexibility so will use YouTube kettle bell and yoga videos to start me off!

Have a good week everyone, and it's a pleasure sharing this journey with you!

ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply tohannahpot79

Hi Hannahpot79,

It's great that you've decided to join us for this Monday group weigh-in. We will also look forward to sharing the journey with you - you sound very motivated and you've had an excellent loss on the scales - 5 pounds! Wow! Really well done. Was that result in just one week, or over a longer period of time? We always like to include one week's result for the weekly stats, so I'll assume it's a 5 pound loss for this week, unless you tell me otherwise. Ruth_Canal_Runner does our stats calculations later in the week, and so it's helpful for her to know the weekly amount for that.

You obviously have some challenges with regard to your eating pattern, but you know the foods you can tolerate and those you can't, so it's good that you can choose the appropriate foods to meet your personal needs.

Good luck with your plan to increase your kms to 11kms this week - that sounds like a great amount of steps. Have you heard of Fizzyliz's 'Around the World in 80 Days' Challenge - she would definitely love to have you on board with that, if you were interested. It's really good fun and people post their exercise kms every day, and we get to visit some great places in the Virtual World. Really good!

Hope you have another great week ahead.

ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toClaire31

Hi Claire31,

I notice that you're planning to cut back on booze this week, and exercise more, so I'm assuming that you have noticed that your 1 pound gain this week is perhaps due to having more alcohol and to having exercised less than you'd like to have done.

How is the food side of things going? I hope you're managing to cope with that, and finding it ok? Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? I can't remember if you're using that plan, but it has some good guidelines.

I would like to wish you success with your plans for this week, and here's to a great week ahead for you. All being well, that extra pound will melt away before you know it!

Great to see you! Good that your friend tried really hard to cater for you over the weekend, and I think you did well to be the designated driver so that you could avoid the alcohol side of things. You've done extremely well to lose 1.5 pounds despite being away with friends - so really well done! Many Congratulations!!! I know that's since last Tuesday, so like you say, you've still got another day before it would be a full week between your weigh-ins, and you'll likely achieve a bit more by tomorrow.

Great that you're 'keeping at it' - you sound determined, and you're making great progress.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toJaibie

Hi Jaibie,

Thank you. :-)

Firstly I'd like to say Congratulations for maintaining your weight, as that is far better than gaining. Great that you've coped well with upping your exercise, and hope you're enjoying that. You said you're not coping as well with the eating side of things. Do you know what aspect of it you're having difficulty with? Do you pre-plan your meals, as that can help quite a bit, knowing what you're going to have as your meals and snacks can really help keep on track. Ensuring you have a healthy balanced meal and the same with any snacks you have can help you to feel more satisfied, and can help to reduce the tendency to overeat. I realise everyone is different, but these are just some things that come to mind that might be helpful to you, or worth consideration to see if they might help you.

You've set yourself a good target - you can achieve quite a bit in 6 months, and I hope you have a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Hi all

Congratulations on your weight loss lowcal :-)

I've grown a bit this week, half a lb up on 2 weeks ago, I didn't weigh in last week as I didn't get home from Tenerife until about midnight on Monday. Half a lb isn't too bad I suppose as I had a 'week off' although I weighed myself yesterday and was the same as when I last weighed in and I stuck to my diet yesterday so not sure where that came from. Anyway, another week begins and I'm determined to lose this week!

Have a good week everyone

Hi Caroline, sorry for being a bit gormless, but I'm not sure whether you've gained 0.5lb, or maintained.

Have a great week this week and I'm sure you'll see a loss next monday :)

CarolineAL profile image
CarolineALβ€’ in reply tomoreless

Hi Moreless

I did waffle a bit didn't I? It's a 0.5lb gain but I like lowcal's idea of dividing it by 2 as I didn't weigh in last week so 0.25 :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toCarolineAL

It's not you Caroline, it's me! I have a tendency to be gormless at times :D

You are never gormless Moreless, I challenge that assumption! :-)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toCarolineAL

Hi Caroline,

I've seen what Moreless has written, and I'm wondering if you have gained half a pound since you last weighed in, which is 2 weeks ago - therefore if we divide that by 2, it means you've gained just 0.25 pound (for this week's stats). I agree with you that half a pound over 2 weeks isn't bad at all, and it equates to just 0.25 pound gained for 1 week, which is extemely minimal! Infact one bowel motion and it would be gone altogether (hope you don't mind my saying that, but I suspect it's true!).

Wishing you another great week ahead, you have done incredibly well to come back from a holiday in Tenerife and only gain such a miniscule amount. I have previously come back from holidays and gained several pounds. I think that's really brilliant that you coped so well with your holiday. Really well done!

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Hi Jigglypuff,

Good morning! We missed you last week, and it's great to see you today! :-)

Thanks for letting us know that you maintained your weight last week, and that you've lost 1.5 pounds this week. Many Congratulations! :-)

I'm glad you found the messages we sent you last week to be helpful, and please don't worry about not having responded to them - life can get very complex sometimes, and I'm sorry to hear that your life is very complex currently - and especially sorry to hear you've had some worrying news. I hope you have some good support around you to help you cope with that, as I know it's not easy when worries take hold, and it can sometimes help to share a worry - as another perspective from a more objective person can sometimes be very helpful. So I hope you can talk about it with a supportive person you trust, if you can. I know people like to cope with things in their own ways, but I know that I find it often helps to share my worry with a trusted friend, as it can really help.

Well done for managing to do more exercise, that is really good.

Wishing you a good week ahead, and I really hope that your worrying news is something that you are able to cope with and that things will hopefully improve or that a solution can be found to help with it.

Take care,

Thank you Lowcal and moreless. I will not go into detail, just say that my baby girl (20) has been fast track referred under the 2-week rule to the breast cancer clinic. Trying hard not to panic and imagine the worst, just stay calm for her and see what happens when we see the consultant, but there is a history of breast cancer on both sides of the family (my sister had an op 4 years ago and is currently under investigation for a new lump). Sorry, that's quite a bit of detail isn't it, lol.

I'm so sorry to hear that jigglypuff. It would be pointless for me to say don't worry, because that's part and parcel of the job when you sign up to be a mum.

What I can share with you is that just recently my baby girl (35) was diagnosed with melanoma, after what was thought to be a routine mole removal. I know that feeling of dread! She had to have extra excision of the wound site, but she's since been declared cancer free. It's not always worse case scenario. I hope and pray that your daughter has a similar, or better outcome.

No weight loss for me this week. I didn't expect to lose any weight though as I haven't tried hard enough. I found a box of chocolates left over from Christmas and boy were they addictive. I'm pleased for everyone who has lost weight though.

Lucky you for maintaining after the christmas chocolates incident DownNotUp! ;)

Hop back up on the bandwagon and I'm sure things will be different next week :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toDownNotUp

Hi DownNotUp,

Those Christmas chocolates are 'Little Lurkers' aren't they - just when you've forgotten about them, and then they pop out unexpectedly to tempt you - and then you often think that you have to have them as they were given to you as a present, and surely one can't hurt. Then the whole box can end up eaten - like you say - they can be addictive and take hold!

But the positive out of this is that although you've not lost weight, you've not actually gained any either - so I would say put this experience behind you. This is a new week ahead, and now there aren't any Christmas chocolates left and therefore they can't do further damage.

You are in control from now on of what you eat, and maybe you could consider at Christmastime telling well-meaning friends and family that you'd appreciate 'no chocolates' as presents - because then there won't be so many temptations to lurk for the year ahead. Every experience can be a learning curve if you want it to be. It's not to say that chocolates should be shunned, as clearly they can be delicious as occasional treats - but maybe you would prefer to choose your own treats rather than have them presented to you as temptations on Christmas and Birthday occasions.

These are purely suggestions, so just put them to one side if you don't like the ideas.

Also, you may have thoroughly enjoyed those chocolates, in which case, they didn't contribute to weight gain, and you've had a lucky result! I don't know really how you're feeling about it, and you don't need to tell me - it's just that the chocolate box scenario is a very common scene that I'm sure many of us can completely relate to - and sharing our coping strategies can help!

Wishing you a great week ahead.

I purchased new scales last monday which show BMI, fat and water, bone. I tried the idea of weighing every day and its been encouraging to watch the reduction, as the weight dropped even by an 8th of a pound the BMI/fat dropped too.

I'm recording a loss of 1lb 2oz this week. Another couple of weeks like this will see me over halfway to my next stone target :)

Dear Lowcal

I am thrilled with you being so close to get to the 12s by next Monday, I really hope it will happen for you and there is every indication that it will!

I like reading the stats, every week we lose sooooo much weight haha!! It feels great and it motivates me even on weeks when I didn't really help improve those stats!! Thanks Ruth for them!!

Ok so this morning I weighed 73.3kgs instead of 75kgs last week so I have lost 4 pounds coming from 163.5 to 161.5 pounds! After all my previous moaning it looks like things have finally moved off. I have followed all the tips I received from last week's thread: weighing every day, eating more for a couple of days, analysing my food.

I realised I eat much more carbs at weekends than in the week. I believe this has had an impact in explaining the difference between my Friday weight and my Mondya one.

To be fair the weighing every day bit was not a tip to lose weight but it was following a suggestion from Lowcal in order to make an average of my weight over two weeks (results next week haha!) , but now I wonder if it has not been a factor? Because on some nights I had some cravings then I was thinking "aaargh tomorrow morning I weigh so I'd better not touch that!!" LOL. I don't think I could cope with weighing every day like this week though :). But in the end every morning from Wednesday I was weighing less than the day before, and that spurred me on!! Interesting how the mind works! I think as I used to weigh on Friday mornings to check how I was doing, when I was seeing a loss I would up my carbs and then be disappointed on Mondays. I can only think of that as a reason but I will carry on monitoring this week too.

My best moment of the week was trying out the recipes from the Hairy Dieters books. I cannot thank kk679 and Elissy enough for pointing me towards these books. I am absolutely thrilled as I already have most of the ingredients for many recipes. I am sooo happy to learn how to cook for a crowd with low cal recipes. Amazing. Honestly I feel like I have finally found the solution to my problems. I was getting increasinlgy worried about the maintaining phase and about being reunited with my OH and rest of familly soon and not being able to maintain. Now I have hope and I am eating delicious lavish food that does NOT make me gain weight. Fab. I tried their lasagna with leeks instead of pasta: absolutely fantastic. And I have learned cooking tips to not make everything so fat. Fantastic I am soooo happy.

This forum really has changed me in more ways than one thanks to everyone for their patience with my ramblings!!

Hi Nussaybah,

This post is incredibly positive and inspiring. I am so glad that you've had such a fantastic result this week, and many Congratulations on losing 4 pounds this week, that is amazing!

Before I forget, I'll post this link to an article about 'daily weighing' which you might find interesting, if you've not already seen it:

usatoday.com/story/life/201...

I have weighed daily for a long long time, and I find it really helpful. But historically advice tended to be to weigh once a week, and I think either method can be helpful - but the article above does give some support for those people out there who want to weigh daily. In the end, it's our personal choice of course! So whatever works for each individual, go ahead with your method!

Great that you've enjoyed those recipe books - I love making new recipes, and I am hoping to get those books from the library sometime soon, as several people have mentioned them now, and I do have a couple of their books already, but not the specific 'diet' related ones.

Nussaybah, you are doing sooooooo well, and I am extremely happy to hear how motivated and positive you are.

Wishing you another great week ahead, but bear in mind after a large loss of 4 pounds, that the scales might be a bit 'fickle' next week - wishing you a great week!

Lowcal :-)

Interesting read as usual Lowcal. Your post, and the link. Thank you so much for your support. I can see where they are coming from with the daily weighing idea and I can see why it may not be best for some categories of people but it might suit me after all. I am still experimenting!

Yes unfortunately I need to be ready for a less spectacular loss next week or even a slight gain as that's what happened to me when I lost 5 pounds, which was unheard of for me in a week! But I believe I am ready mentally so hopefully I will cope next Monday!!

Thank you so much for your support!

Glad you like the book :-)

Monday morning is my one morning off, and I just made the chilli from the book for tonight, yum :-)

I think finding recipes you can eat with the family so important, even though I cook some of my food separate still. After talking about the books the other day I went through them again and marked recipes I KNOW the others will eat that I haven't tried before. So my pledge is to cook at least one new recipe every week :-)

Thanks Elissy. Sounds like a good resolution!

Yesterday I did the peri peri sauce on some chicken, left it to marinate four hours then oven: it was soooo good!

Today we have eaten our normal salad with their "basic vinaigrette" which is soooo yummy!! LOl. So far I have done the easy bake chicken, the low cal tikka masala, the cumin roasted vegetables, the tabbouleh, and the meat and potato pies. Plus the lasagna. Everything was just sooooo good. These books are almost worth their weight in gold honestly. And I have just started!! Thanks again Elissy!! Would never know they exist if not for you!

Well done all you who have lost weight over the past week. I am almost not posting this morning because I have put weight back on after a birthday weekend which included fun and walks but also alcohol and food in abundance. I'm also feeling a bit under the weather and disappointed to have re-gained three pounds which really did not want to go in the first place. As I am brewing a virus I won't be rushing out for a run nor cutting my calories by half; I've got at least eight hours in front of a laptop ahead and will try to stick to the 1400kcals today and get back on track, in a gentle and forgiving way.

Don't be disappointed rainshine, you had a fabulous weekend and now that it's over, you'll be able to get back on track.

You don't need to do anything drastic, just what you were doing before to lose it. You're being very sensible and as kind to yourself as you would be to anyone else in the same situation and that's just the way it should be :)

Good morning everyone.

Was getting a bit disheartened this week, as I felt the snacking was getting out of control. But on Saturday a minor achievement occurred and I surprisingly got into a size 12 skinny jeans, this just put me back in the correct mindset to go on and get to my next milestone of getting to 10stone and at the the higher end of a healthy BMI.

1st Feb 2016: Weight: 10st 5.5lbs

8th Feb 2016: Weight: 10st 5.0lbs

So that's a loss of 0.5lbs.

Will keep up the cardio this week and carry on with the strengthening exercises too. A friend has also suggested some meditation to keep me focussed.

Till next week.

You've achieved such great milestones, and you've lost 0.5 pound on the scales. Really good progress.

Good luck with keeping up your cardio this week, and to continuing with your strength exercises. Doing meditation sounds really good too.

Start: 123 kg / 271lbs / 19st5 at beginning of October

Ultimate aim: somewhere starting with an 8

Last week: 108.5 kg / 239lbs / 17st1

This week: 106.7 kg / 235lbs / 16st11

BMI: 33.0, down from 37.9.

I managed to stick to 1500 cals per day most of the week (apart from Friday's night out), and did 200 mins of extra walking and hard labour - a.k.a. clearing up the back garden...

I may have a bit of a slobby week, now, just to "reset" everything, and persuade my body that it isn't going to have to get used to a permanent low-calorie diet. We'll have to see how that goes.

Since I bought fancy new scales I've been weighing every morning, following a discussion about people whose weight fluctuates up and down for no apparent reason. I'm obviously not one of them, since my weight shows a steady linear trend, so long as I behave myself.

108.9 Sa

108.7 Su

108.5 Mo

108.0 Tu

107.7 We

107.5 Th

107.2 Fr

107.2 Sa (after a pub night!)

106.9 Su

106.7 Mo

I guess the fluctuation must be a girl thing. Sorry about that, folks. ☺

In Feb 2015 I took my measurements for the first time in years. Now, after 12 months (but only 4 months of sensible living!) I've managed to take 4 inches off my waist. That feels so good! I've just donated one oversized coat, three jackets and half a dozen pairs of trousers to the local hospice shop, so I can't afford to go back to being a super-fatty.

Thanks for being so helpful and supportive, y'all!

Congratulations on losing 1.8 kg (4 pounds) of weight this week, that is fantastic! Also, great to hear you've taken 4 inches off your weight, and good that you're sorting out your clothes accordingly! I'm sure the charity shop will enjoy the benefit of your jackets and trousers.

I've usually been hitting around 1800 (my TDEE is 2650 or so), but decided to have a tougher week and see how it went.

I've got a big apple pie in the fridge, waiting to go in the oven when I get home (only to use up the last of the autumn's Bramleys before they go off, you understand...), so I don't think next week's weigh-in will be too spectacular. ☺

I'm actually quite glad that you're going to indulge a bit this week, because to start drastically cutting your calories, this early in the game, makes it more difficult to do as you get lighter, if that makes any sense at all :)

Yes, it does. I think I've read all the science stuff and how your body compensates, when you try and starve it for more than a short while, so I'm trying hard to keep it confused! Hence the "week off" - hopefully without going too silly.

I've forgotten what my weight was 2 weeks ago when I last weighed in... At last weekend I had lost a total of 6lbs, but I gained 2 back (you'd understand if I explained why - it was a tough week), so total weight loss is 4lbs. My current weight is 14st 12.5lbs.

Hope the rest of you have a very healthy week ahead, and congrats on all losses this week!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toCooper27

Hi Cooper27,

Sorry to hear you've had a tough week, and really hope that this week will be better for you. Great that you managed to lose 6 pounds, even though 2 of those pounds were gained back due to your difficult week - you have still achieved a total weigh loss of 4 pounds.

I have checked what your weight was when you last weighed in - on 25th January 2016 it was 14 stone 13.5 pounds, so that means you're a whole pound down from that weight - in view of the fact it was 2 weeks ago, I'll divide it by 2 and give 0.5 pound loss for this week's stats, which Ruth will take account of when she does our weekly stats later this week.

You're doing brilliantly, great progress.

I really hope that the tough situation is better now, and that you can move forward to a better week ahead, all being well.

ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply torosie-2015

Hi Rosie-2015,

Thank you. :-)

I am a bit confused about your weight - just wondered if you are 15 stone 10 pounds and 2 ounces or do you mean you are 15 stone 10.2 pounds? It's just that you mentioned losing 12 ounces, and I think there are 16 ounces to a pound, which would mean you'd have lost 14 ounces if you are 15 stone 10 pounds and 2 ounces, but the loss would be 0.8 pound if you were 15 stone 10.2 pounds. It makes some difference, so do let me know which is correct in terms of your current weight, so that Ruth can put the correct amount.

The main thing is you've got a loss on the scales, so Congratuations!

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for clarifying that, it is very helpful.

You can moan as much as you like by the way - better out than in is what I always say! As long as it helps and makes you feel a bit better, there's no problem with having a good off-load!

Have you looked online for some exercises you might be able to try - i.e. ones specifically for less mobile people? There are some good ones out there - and you might really enjoy them. You can always check out with your GP regarding whether it's safe for you to try them, if you have any mobility issues that might mean that a consultation might be appropriate.

Ruth will include your 14 ozs (which I think is equivalent to 0.875 pound) in her stats.

Many thanks

Lowcal :-)

Well hopefully I've put-right my 2lb gain from last week /: (which actually turned out to be a 3lb gain the following day- as i weigh daily) anyway this week i lost the 2lbs plus the extra 1 lb from the tuesday weigh-in and then made the fat cells cry in the gym for the rest of the week and lost another 2lbs on top so i lost 5lbs but as that extra 1 lb hadnt shown up yet by last monday i'll leave it to you to decide how to do the stats lol

Well done, Lowcal, the 12's are sooo close, you must be able to smell them ;-)

Roll on next week :-)

This week I have a gain but I'm happy with that. After last weeks 191 lbs due to not eating when ill, I didn't add any food to mfp as I kept feeling shaky at times and had to eat more frequent than normal (especially when I went back to work).

Recently I have been hanging around the 194 lb for so long now, that I am pleased to say today's weight is 192.6 lb, so genuinely on the way down. :-)

I find not exercising hard at the moment, but even though my cough is feeling better, it is still there and I still get tired and out of breath a bit - so I WILL wait as working, kids and house is enough at the moment.

My aim for this week is to log everything on mfp again, and to resist after work snacks by taking an apple to eat on the way home :-)

You've been really ill and although you're on the road to recovery now, you're still not 100% fit and healthy. If you try and overdo things, you could set yourself right back

Hi Elissy,

Yes the 12's are soooo close now. But I know what they're like - in the elusivity camp it seems, so I need to keep my eye on them, and chase them as the week goes on! :-)

I know you've gained 1.6 pounds this week, but it's great to hear that your general trend overall is downwards, as you were previously hanging around at 194 pounds, and last week's weight of 191 pounds was due to not eating whilst ill. Congratulations on that downwards trend, and I hope that you're feeling a bit better after your illness. I note that your cough is improving, but you are clearly still recovering, so please do take it very easy and continue to look after yourself so you can make a full recovery. I am glad you're holding off from exercising, as that is sensible in the circumstances. Like you say, working, kids and the house is more than enough - and probably too much! So I hope they can help you out a bit to take the strain.

Good idea to log everything on your MFP again, and good luck in your goal to resist the after work snacks - taking an apple to eat on the way home sounds really sensible.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Morning.

My weight this week is 81.5 kg so have lost 0.6 kg this week. Was hoping to loose 1 kg, but I'm happy with the loss considering I have not been exercising as much because of the lovely weather we've been having. It's really chucking it down here at the moment. When I took the dog out last night he complained about half way. He was cold and wanted to go home. Poor thing was soaked.

Goal for this week is to get under 81 kg and out of the obese range :)

Hi Carpo82,

Congratulations to you for losing 0.6 kg this week, that is great! I know you were hoping for 1 kg, but you have nearly achieved it. The weather is certainly challenging at the moment, as I'm assuming you're also experiencing Storm Imogen at the moment? She certainly is a windy gal isn't she...?!

Your dog told it how it was - too cold and horrible for a walk. I sympathise!

You're very close to your goal to be under 81 kg and into the next BMI range - all being well, you'll get there very soon.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and let's hope this weather improves soon!

Hi. Keeping this up. I am committing to it. This group helps to keep motivated and keep trying. I have to say that I have the same weight this week. At least I haven't gained as I have had a few social gatherings. Hope to lose at least a pound o hopefully a kilo for next week.

Good luck everyone.

Hi Alejandra,

Great that you're keeping this up and committing to it. That is half the battle, in terms of a positive mindset. Glad that the group is helping you to keep motivated and keep on trying. It does the same to me, and I value the chance to be accountable and share how things have gone each week with such great and supportive and encouraging people.

Fantastic to hear you've maintained your weight despite a few social gatherings, that is an achievement. Congratulations!

Good luck with your goal for this week, and wishing you a great week ahead.

Ooh Pam, I've just realised that we both started out at exactly the same weight. We shall have to monitor each other closely and keep each other on track :)

Well done for losing 2lbs this week, I bet you're feeling fab! :)

Keep that enthusiasm topped up and you'll be a Minimum before you know it :)

Hi Moreless: it has taken me a few years to loose the weight as I keep getting side tracked but as my husband says at least I haven't yoyoed to much and put it all back on.

Since 4th Jan 16 I have lost nearly a stone just a lb short so I am really back with it.

Trying out the 5:2 diet this month and have purchased myself one of those portion size plates for the 5 days so that I don't go over the top.

Will keep in touch to see how we both get on and one day I will be Minimum!!

Regards

Pam

I'm not sure if I've already posted this (having computer issues this morning!), but this week I've lost 4lbs, going from 13st 10lbs to 13st 6lbs! Ok so most of it is due to an evil stomach bug my youngest brought home from nursery, but 4lbs off is still a result in my eyes!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMIβ€’ in reply toBakerlady

Hi Bakerlady,

I haven't seen your post previously to this, so I don't think you've posted it in here, but I could be wrong! There are lots of people posting, and other Fab 5'ers might already have responded to you if you have already posted.

Anyway, sorry to hear you've had computer issues this morning, but glad you are posting now, and I'm very pleased to hear you've lost 4 pounds - that is phenomenal. Congratulations!

I realise you've had a horrible stomach bug, and my sincere sympathies on having had to suffer one of those, not a great present from your youngest - hope he and you will feel much better really soon.

At least it had a silver lining in terms of making you feel happy to have lost so much weight at once!

I'm not sure what the scales will do next week, as you may 'even out' a bit as your body adjusts - but take things easy and I hope you'll feel a lot better soon, if you're not already feeling better.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Today I weigh 9 stone 10.6 lbs, and last week I was 9 stone 12.8 lbs, so I think I have lost about 2 lbs or thereabouts, which is great. I feel really good because I have not gone hungry! Mostly increased my fibre foods, including eating porridge for breakfast, and more fruit and veg, and adding lentils to soup. All things that help fill me up and stop me reaching for the biscuit tin!

Really enjoying this group site, it is very inspiring. Thank you!

Hi Nelliecat4,

Congratulations on losing 2.2 pounds this week, that is really great! I am so glad you're feeling good about things, and I'm especially pleased to hear that you've not felt hungry - that is incredibly important, as it is a healthy meal plan rather than something restrictive, and ensuring you have good nutrients and a balanced meal and/or snack is definitely preferable.

I love fibre - great that you're including sufficient fibre via your porridge, fruit and vegetables. I also add lentils to soup, they make the soups really lovely textures too.

Great that you're stopping yourself from reaching for that biscuit tin.

I'm so glad you're enjoying this forum, and I would like to wish you another great week ahead.

Thanks Lowcal, I do think if I can reduce by about 1 lb a week I will be in a better place in a few weeks time, and then, with all my added fibre, hopefully I can maintain a healthy weight. ONWARDS!!!

Hello, good morning.

Well its bad news this week... I gained 1kg :( Back on 90kg.

Felt really disappointed and guilty this morning. My first thought was "what's the point?" then thought of skipping the weigh in, giving it all up... the usual.

Luckily I had to do the school run and found myself thinking "if my daughter was in my position what would I tell her?" and obviously I would issue her with a "man up card" (apologies for the sexism!) and would just tell her to pick herself up, fix what went wrong and get on.

So, I took myself to the shops and bought a bunch load of vegetables and fruit. Came home sat down look what had gone wrong and read the WEEK 6 advice on the NHS12 week plan and it pretty much predicted what happened this week - I lost interest in counting calories, let myselfl be pressured into a chinese meal and didn't exercise enough. To fix this I have made a plan for the week ahead for food and exercise and now i need to stick with it as I can remember how good it feel to lose weight last week but I really can't remember how good any of the extra food i had actually tasted.

(Sorry for the long post!)

Hi Catmay,

Sorry to hear you gained 1 kg this week. I'm really glad you were able to challenge your thinking regarding potentially giving up and avoiding the weigh-in, and using the analogy of what you'd advise your daughter in a similar circumstance is certainly a good idea, as it helped you to look at it from a more objective perspective, and so well done for doing that, and for being here at the weigh-in - that's a brave and courageous thing to do, and I am so glad you did it.

You've been shopping for some great healthy foods, so that's a step in the right direction, and a very practical thing that I applaud you for. Glad that you found the advice in week 6 was pertinent and appropriate to what happened, and that you've been spurred on by it.

You've got your plan for this week, and you're sounding much more focused and determined.

I would like to wish you a great week ahead, and I'm sure you'll be back on track and see some results.

A bit late I know as work has been hectic today. But I weighed at home as usual and pleased to say I maintained. Please because I went rather more than a little off track at the weekend. No excuse for it really just lost the will power to say no.

Back on track today :)

Very late to the party today!

Last week 16st 3.5lb and today 16st 2lb so 1.5lb off. I've had a really bad week of chocolate and carb cravings (hormones!) and the family baked again! So really pleased to have made any loss.

Next week I'm aiming for 15st something which I've not seen for a few years...

Paja, you have nothing to be ashamed about. You've been ill and I think you've done very well to maintain your weight.

It would have been easy for you to just turn to comfort food when you weren't feeling well and put on weight, but you haven't done that and you haven't been able to exercise either.

I think that you're to be congratulated and I'm sure, that as you start to feel better, the weight loss will follow :)
