Hi everyone,

I hope you have all had an enjoyable week, and that the Christmas festivities went well.

If you're joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome, and welcome back to all our regular contributors. The Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Ruth_Canal_Runner and Moreless) will ensure that everyone who contributes to the thread today have a response from one or more of us, at some point in the day.

As it's the last week of 2015, this week we would like to suggest that people consider sharing some of the following:

a) Total weight lost in 2015 - don't forget to include your personal starting date within the year.

b) Absolute weight loss since the start of your weight loss journey (for all your longer term weight-loss wagon riders - like myself)

c) If you're a 'maintainer' then please tell us how much weight you've lost in total, and for how long you've been maintaining.

d) Feel free to also share your Christmas week progress - but only if you're keen to do so (I am going to share mine, and it's not pretty!)

Newbies: Please just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable doing so) and your goal for the week, and/or longer term goals.

Only share what you feel comfortable sharing - so if you want to share something different to the above, then do so - it is optional.

OK, I'll start off with my 2015 Weight loss Progress: Over the year (2015) I've gained 0.8 pound (i.e. just over half a pound!). I started my weight loss journey approx 5 years ago, and was 18 stone 8 pounds (size 18 clothes). Today I'm 13 stone 6.2 pounds, so I've lost a total of 5 stone 1.8 pounds. I am now a size 14. I achieved a 'healthy' BMI in January 2014 of just under 25, and today (almost 2 years later) my BMI is just over 23. I am 6 feet 1 inch tall, so I'm using the 'new BMI' figure (as it is said to be more accurate for taller people). Christmas week - I gained 3.6 pounds this week. But hopefully that will come off relatively quickly, as I intend to get back to my healthy eating regime as of today! I feel happy to have maintained my weight loss for 2 years. I'd like to get to 12 stone 7 pounds, but the 12's are proving to be elusive for me - therefore I am going to think carefully this week about my weight loss goals and resolutions for 2016, and will share them at next week's weigh-in on 4th January. This may involve re-setting my goal weight, or having a plan of action to achieve it.

Remember: Please share as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing. Ruth_Canal_Runner is going to collate all our responses from today's thread, and she has already posted this thread to ask for your ideas as to how she should best feedback the 2015 results:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

So please have a look at Ruth's thread, and contribute any views and/or preferences you have. You can also put them here as well, as Ruth will be reading this thread when she comes to do the collating. Thanks to those people who have already added their thoughts.

Here is Ruth's summary of last week's weigh-in results, which are fantastic! Thank you so much Ruth for doing our stats each week (and to the other Fab 5'ers for your amazing support):

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 46.

Total overall weight lost: 30.3 pounds (13.8 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 23 (46.0 pounds lost) (20.9 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 10 (15.7 pounds gained) (7.1 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 3.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 3.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 7.

Just to reassure you that one of my New Year Resolutions is to continue posting this thread throughout 2016, and I hope that you'll get involved and join us - it's fun and supportive - with a true community spirit, and the Fab 5'ers are a fantastic team. That's what I think, and I hope you'll agree. :-)

Please interact and support one another too - we encourage you to enjoy the thread.

We'll be here on 4th January 2016 for another weigh-in, so hope to see you then. Have a think about your New Year Weight-loss goals and Resolutions in the meantime, and please do share them in that thread (or now, if you've already considered it) - we would love to hear them.

Here's to a Happy New Year ahead for all of us.

Lowcal :-)

Hi there, I'm a newbie and just downloaded 12 week plan yesterday. I'm 40 years old and have a lot to lose, around 70lbs! I've struggled with my weight for a long long time so decided a lifestyle change and shift in perspective is needed!! This looks like a really good forum for support and the weekly weigh in thread will be fab! Looking to lose 2lbs a week, have a lot more energy for my children and grandchildren and be able to wear the clothes I want with confidence! Thanks :)

Hi Cazmaz06,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in. You've done the brave step of sharing your starting weight, so well done, and I hope you felt comfortable doing so. Glad you like the look of the forum and the weigh-in thread - I hope you'll really enjoy being part of this community, and we're really glad you've decided to join us today.

The NHS 12 week plan is a great plan, and I hope you find it easy to use. Many of us use an app (like Myfitnesspal for example) to keep account of calories and exercise etc. It does make that side of things very easy.

You've got your long term goals and you've set yourself a good first week's target too - and it's great that you are looking forward to having more energy to spend with your children and grandchildren, and to enjoy wearing the clothes you want to wear with confidence.

Wishing you a great first week, and look forward to catching up with you next week.

Hi and welcome Cazmaz :)

It's great that you've joined us today and you're absolutely right, this forum and this thread are excellent for support and motivation :)

Don't think 70lbs is too daunting, I started needing to lose 120lbs, but if you break it down into bite size pieces, you'll be amazed at just how quickly it goes.

Here's to surfing, scuba diving and rock climbing with the kids grandkids ;)

Welcome and be encouraged! This is such a positive supportI've place to be. You will get lots of encouragement here. I suggest you also download a free app called myfitnesspal. You can log all you eat and your exercise there. It calculates not just calories but also nutrition. It really helped me to eat healthily. It is easy to use and even has a barcode scanner.

New and hopeful!! weighed in an officially in 'obese' category on BMI tracker....... although overall healthy and not on any meds. Desperate to get down to normal weight range this year as planning some 'bucket list' activities over next year which require a much greater level of physical fitness...... glad to be part of the fun!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toNeshume

Hi Neshume,

So lovely to welcome you today to this Monday group weigh-in thread, and hope you'll enjoy being part of this community forum. I love the fact you describe yourself as 'new and hopeful' - and I am sure your positive outlook will help spur you on to a great start.

Have you seen the NHS 12 week plan? It's definitely worth a look, if you've not already seen it. It provides an excellent structure and really good advice. It is linked to this weight loss forum, and you can access the downloadable pages by clicking on the icon in the top middle of the screen, entitlted 'Weight Loss NHS' and then continue clicking till you find the right page for the 12 week plan.

Great that you're planning some 'bucket list' activities for next year. Many of us enjoy doing physical activities as part of our healthy living, and I believe it really helps to be fit and active.

There are some great challenges elsewhere in the forum - for example there is an 'Around the World in 80 days' challenge (run by Lizzy - she has many numbers after the name Lizzy) and she is looking for participants for her challenge, if you're interested.

Anyway, wishing you a great first week, and will look forward to hopefully seeing you in future weigh-ins.

All the best with your first week.

Thank you for this encouraging reply. OK so put 3 1bs on over December and Christmas! Not as bad as I thought but still 33 lbs to lose at 13st 3lbs!! Hope to walk today and start reducing all rich foods and alcohol this week! See you at next week's weigh in!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toNeshume

Hi Neshume,

Hi again, and thanks for sharing your starting weight, and hope that felt ok to share that. I agree with you that putting on 3 pounds over Christmas isn't that much in the context of the indulgences and temptations that abound at Christmas. If you lose those 3 pounds, you'll be on the cusp of the 12's already, so it isn't far away! Your plan to start reducing rich foods and alcohol this week will be a good start. Hope you enjoy your walk later. I love walking, and I think it's a great way to exercise.

Wishing you a great first week.

Hi lowcal. I was dreading getting on the scales but I've only gained 2lbs over the last 3 weeks and that's good for me as I do all the cooking and because I don't drink I reward myself with cheese crisps dips chocolate etc etc. Today I weigh 12st 3 and when I started end of October I was 12st 6. So I lost 5 lbs on the 12 week plan and have temporarily put back 2. So today I refocus and eat sensibly again and record my calories. Hope everyone had a good Xmas. So glad to be back on the plan. It really works. Look forward to talking to everyone as we go into 2016.

ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Florence,

Well done for braving the scales today - I know it's especially challenging after a week of festivity, and also brave on a Monday too (i.e. after the weekend), but that was partly the reason I chose to do this weigh-in on a Monday - as it can also help to be accountable and help with damage limitation over the weekend, and hopefully it didn't feel too bad.

Great that you've only gained 2 pounds in the last 3 weeks. Like you say, you do the cooking and have access to lots of food stuffs during that preparation - so I think it could have been so much worse if you hadn't exercised some restraint.

Brilliant that you've lost 3 pounds in total since you started the 12 week plan at the end of October. Congratulations. Ruth will be collating the total losses for 2015, so do let her know if you've got any preferences for how she'll present our 2015 results.

Great that you're refocusing today, after Christmas, and you're back on the plan - wishing you a great week ahead, and look forward to catching up with you again in 2016!

Hi Skinnylizzie,

Great to see you. Glad you've enjoyed this thread, and that it has helped to keep you going. It does the same for me - knowing that I'm doing the thread each Monday really helps me to keep on track and stay accountable.

I calculate that you've lost 1 stone and 6.5 pounds since you started in November - many Congratulations!!! To have also lost 1.5 pounds in Christmas week is phenomenal! Really well done. I am extremely impressed by such great results.

It's great that you're feeling positive about achieving your ultimate goal weight of 10 stone 7 pounds, and the fact it was elusive for 27 years gives me hope to achieve my own ultimate goal weight.

Your post is really inspiring, and wishing you continued success in 2016. Look forward to seeing your future posts.

Have a great week.

Good morning. This week despite enjoying Christmas I have lost 0.6kg (not sure how!) Today 54.2kg

I have been a yo yo dieter. At the beginning of 2015 I was around 57 kg and attended my son's wedding in SA in April. By August I had put back all I lost in 2014 and some more ! On 4th August I joined this fab forum and started the 12 week plan I weighed in at 63.7 kg. In less than the 12 weeks I hit my original goal of 57 kg by the end of September. As a yo yo er my aim was to stay between 55 and 57 kg long term. I continued to lose for a while and in fact have been maintaining at around 54 kg since then. On today's weight I have lost 9.5 kg ( a stone and a half) in total since 4th August. (Equivalent to losing a fat koala bear !)

I have managed to maintain for 3 months which for me is more of an achievement than losing weight in the first place. My weekly weigh in here is key to my success.

I am slimmer and fitter than I have ever been and am investing in new slim girl clothes for my holiday in Mauritius in April and in Rio in August. 2016 is going to be a slim year all year for me .

The clothes I wore in SA last April when I felt happy with my weight are now quite loose....

Happy healthy 2016 to all of my buddies here!

Hi 2bFabnFit,

Wow, you've lost weight in Christmas week - really well done. Losing 0.6 kg - and you don't even know how you did that...!

Your post is such a great motivator - you have shown how you have managed to tackle your weight loss and lose 9.5kg (a stone and a half) in total since 4th August, and maintained for 3 months. Many congratulations on your achievements.

You've had some great occasions to celebrate this year, and it's so great that you have been slimmer and fitter than you have ever been, so that you could enjoy your new slim girl clothes.

You are an inspiration to us all, and it's so lovely to hear your success.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and here's to 2016 being a year you can enjoy being slim all year long - happy Maintaining!

Wow 2BeFabnfit, a loss in Christmas week is fantastic! :)

Your yoyo dieting story is Oh so familiar, but you've found the secret to success and are now a dab hand at maintaining. A feat I hope someday to achieve :)

Thanks so much for your story, it's great for us still at the beginning of our journeys to know that it is achievable and that maintenance is possible.

All the very best for 2016 :)

in reply to2bFabnfit

2bFabnfit, what a great post and so uplifting. I love the emphasis on fitness and clothes :D

Most of all, I love the happy tone of your post. :)

Brilliant :) A fantastic achievement. :)

in reply to2bFabnfit

Congrats 2BFabnFit - what a great year - I agree maintaining is such an achievement in itself. I hated my scales before, but now I realise they're my friend. If I check in with them every Monday then I won't need to fear them. Keep everything in check, keep enjoying your new slim figure and clothes to go with it, and you will def continue to maintain. I was particularly struck by your recent mention about re-introducing sugar. I re-introduced wine and had a similar effect - just craved more and all the extra eating that goes with it too, so have had to reduce - work out strategies to allow it but not go overboard, and so far it's working... We need to know our demons and keep them at bay, not switch off and let old habits creep back in, and at the same time not have unmanageable rules about what we can and can't have. It's all a work in progress - but sounds like you're on top of it all! Good luck for a maintaining 2016 :)

I have had some sugar over Christmas. I will go back to sugar free on !st Jan except for celebration days.... I feel better without it so it, so it's not hard. Been good to relax a bit and enjoy some festive treats but still not sure how I lost weight this week....

I still have two parties this week I will have what I fancy whether it has sugar or not, I enjoy the tastes but my digestion plays up afterwards.

Good luck with your maintenance plan too... you have done so well...

Good morning Lowcal and fellow losers :)

What a fantastic journey you've had Lowcal, you are truly an inspiration to us all, but not only that, you've gone above and beyond to actively encourage and assist all of us on our journeys and I'm sure I won't be the only one who wishes to thank you for that. Here's to 2016 being the year that you reach your goal of 12st 7lbs, or whatever you decide :)

I started my journey on 7th September, 2015, weighing 19st 10lbs and with a BMI of 44. I was wearing size 26 clothes and a total lack of confidence had confined me to quarters ie I did not leave my home.

Today I weigh 17st 1.325lbs (0.875lbs up on last week), with a BMI of 38.4. I now fit into 22's and am able to go out for walks :)

That's a total loss of 36.675lbs, but a huge increase in confidence :)

I didn't think I was capable of it and am happy to say I proved myself wrong. So if I can do it, anybody can :)

Looking forward to seeing everybody else's achievements and to what 2016 brings us all :)

A very happy and healthy New Year to everyone :)

Hi Moreless (fabulous Fab 5'er),

Thank you so much for your very kind words. You are our newest Fab 5'er and you are already an inspiration to many many people, and it's so great to read your progress summary - it is inspirational.

Wow, you've lost 36.675 pounds since you started your weight loss journey in early September 2015 - that is incredible!!! Dropping 2 dress sizes too - fantastic! What shines through is your increase in confidence, and the fact you're feeling so much better in yourself. Well done you, and here's to continued success and some lovely walks ahead - as well as some cycling once you've got your bike sorted out (I hope you manage to get that sorted, as I know how much you were enjoying that).

You are getting close to the 16's, which seems very fitting considering we're also going to be into 2016 very soon.

Wow, you didn't gain very much at all over Christmas week, that is brilliant.

Thank you for all you do helping the Fab 5'ers team - you are a great Fab 5'er.

Here's to a great 2016 - and here's to a great day on the thread today - everyone's posts are really inspiring.

Thanks Lowcal :)

I think cycling is definitely the way forward for me, as it seems to keep the fluid retention and pain in my legs at bay. I'm eagerly awaiting the loan of my daughter's bike, which unfortunately has got itself locked in her shed, which has a broken door handle!

I had hoped to get into the 16's by today, but although I was able to control my eating, I wasn't able to control the swelling in my legs, which I think is what's responsible for the weight gain, but not to worry, as soon as I get that bike, I'm sure it'll disappear soon enough :)

Zest profile image

Thanks so much 2bFabnfit :)

I have heaps of size 16's in my wardrobe that I keep looking longingly at, so it would be great if I could be back in them by next Christmas :)

Mind you, a size 12 would be even better :D

in reply tomoreless

Yay the golden size 12s! Love the idea of projecting forward the drop in dress sizes :)

in reply tomoreless

Moreless, I just don't know where to start. The loss of 2st 9lbs, the vast improvement of BMI from 44 to 38.4, the reduction in dress size, these are all such good results and you have a lot to be proud of.

Going out for walks though is phenomenal and so, so important for quality of life. To get back into life's rich tapestry is perhaps your biggest achievement of all.

You for me are a winner in every sense.

Have a lovely New Year.

Wow Moreless - I wasn't keeping track - I saw the big losses week by week but 36.675lbs since September is incredible. You need to really take a great deal of credit for that. I bet you feel totally different knowing you've achieved this now. I also noticed a massive increase in confidence - I believe it's achieving the weight loss itself that gives the confidence. The aesthetic aspect etc is secondary (in my opinion). I realised I was down not so much from being overweight, but more from the feeling of helplessness to fix it. You got yourself from a truly unconfident position, stuck indoors, to someone who beams confidence on here, and hopefully among your friends and family too. Bring on 2016 - it's going to be your year :)

Hello there, I have lost a total of 23 lbs but since I started running, very little has come off and still have 21 lbs to lose, would love 2016 to be a good weight loss year. Hope a weekly weigh in with you will help me. I graduated from C25K 13 weeks ago now 😀

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toJoolieB1

Hi JoolieB1,

A very warm welcome to our Monday group weigh-in, and it's brilliant to hear that you've lost a total of 23 pounds. Congratulations for that, and also for graduating from the C25K 13 weeks ago. I hope you enjoyed it, and that you're planning to continue your running.

You mentioned that very little weight has come off since you started running - and I wonder if you have any ideas regarding why that might be. Have you looked at the NHS 12 week plan? There's a BMI calculator you can use to check you're eating sufficient calories on there, it takes account of the exercise and activity levels, and it can be that sometimes if you don't actually eat sufficient calories for your activity level, then you can have a plateau in your weight, so maybe you could check it, and adjust accordingly?

It's great that you've decided to join in our Monday weigh-ins, and I do hope it will help you to have the weekly group support. You'll find out how friendly and lovely the people are, I think they are amazing.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and all the best for your goals in 2016. If you do set yourself any goals or resolutions for 2016, then please feel free to share them with us at next week's weigh-in.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

in reply toJoolieB1

Welcome to the other side JoolieB :) I also did the NHS 12 week plan after completing C25K. I approached it similarly to the C25K method, introducing gradual changes week by week. The weekly weigh-in here is great too, everyone's really encouraging. Good luck for 2016 :)

I'm 5'4" and today I weigh 12st 10lbs. I can't tell you what clothes size I am because I have just about every size in my wardrobe (I'm sure some of my clothes have grown with me!). After doing the online bmi thingy on the NHS site I'm classed at obese for my height and it suggested to loose 3st 11lbs, so......here I am and my aim is to feel healthier, more energetic and most importantly happy in myself.

My aim for this coming week is to loose 2lbs even with a NYE party. The biggest thing for me to overcome is to exercise, I feel worried to go out alone at night and find it hard to find someone who won't let me down. I work from home and can walk during the afternoons so my Fitbit is on charge and I'm really going to try and be brave!

Good luck this week to all the lovely ladies.

Hi and welcome PH :)

I'm so pleased that you've joined us today and that you've felt able to share your starting weight and your goals.

I had a nightmare starting to exercise, because I didn't go out, but as the pounds began to drop and I felt more in control of my destiny, so my confidence increased to being able to brave stepping outside. It sounds as if you're all set with your fitbit, so WTG you! :)

All the very best to you as you start your journey and here's to 2016 seeing you happy, healthy and slim :)

Welcome PH- :-) you are bang on the same as me when I started. overweight but not way out there. This is definitely the time to take a grip. Because it is so easy to convert excess calories into increased poundage. I came close to 13 stone but took myself in hand:-). The bmi ranges are very broad- so aim for mini milestones. Have a look at the 12 week NHS plan. And good luck with your 2 pound loss this week:-)

Started on 23 November 2015 and have lost 1 stone 2 pounds.

24,04 / 23,10 / 23,06 / 23,03 / 23,01.

Today I'm 23,02 so unfortunately I've gained a pound since last Monday.

However, I did fall face flat into a delicious cheese board, and I may have consumed a whole bottle of rioja over Christmas day - Boxing day, whoops!

Hope everybody had an enjoyable, peaceful festive period.

Having joined this forum in October 15, I have now lost 12 lbs. I could have fainted this morning when I saw that I was 12st 5 this morning and have lost 1 lb. Really surprised and can only put it down to much more exercise up to Christmas Day and that my stomache has reduced so that the amount of nibbles I have eaten is less than normal!

I love this forum. The weigh in keeps me focused, feedback encourages me and in moments when I am tempted I try to read others comments and reply - better to use my hands to type than put food to my mouth!

I know that I need to lose at least another 3 stone as I'm 5ft 2 but I like to set my challenges in small chunks so over the week, I'll think what my aims are for the next month or half term.

Wishing everyone a good week with not too many food and drink temptations at New Year Eve parties!

Morning. Interesting readingLC. Like you I am kind of in the same place as last year- which feels somewhat disappointing. But it did take me until at least until June of 2015 to take myself I hand- by which time I had added half a stone to my dec 2014 start weight.

This week I have gained 2.5 pounds:-(. All self inflicted. That brings my total weight loss to 5 pounds. I will halt the slide backwards as of today. Still have 3 Xmas parties to navigate......

So I am thoughtful this morning- I am in a much more healthy headspace than I was last year. I feel confident I can get myself back on track. Doing dry jan with a team of colleagues at work- will be fun:-)

Happy new year

in reply tosuzybenj

If you've managed to stay the same over a year, I'd say that's a huge achievement. The dry Jan is a good idea, it's always nice to do things with friends and colleagues. I somehow just know, that if you felt at all uncomfortable with your current weight, you have the strength of will and determination to make the changes, without too much effort. :)

Good luck and happy new year :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply tosuzybenj

Having the right headspace is the answer Suzy, because it will keep you on the straight and narrow :)

For all your ups and downs over the year, you can still say that overall you've lost weight, which makes it all worthwhile and soooooo much better than a gain :)

Good luck with dry Jan and here's to 2016 getting you to wherever you want to be :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tosuzybenj

Hi Suzybenj (wonderful Fab 5'er),

I am so glad to hear you're in a more healthy headspace than you were at the start of last year - that is a key thing, and the fact you feel confident to get yourself back on track is definitely a great motivator for success. You have succeeded in losing a total of 5 pounds this year, and that is fantastic - Congratulations. I think gaining 2.5 pounds over Christmas is not very much at all, by the way, I think the gain can be as much as half a stone sometimes, so that is a trivial amount to gain in the scheme of things. It will soon be off again - although I do hear that you still have 3 Xmas parties to navigate - good luck!!!!!

Your plan to do Dry January with a team of work colleagues sounds really good - that should definitely give you a head start in the weight loss stakes.

Thank you for your sterling support with this thread Suzybenj - you've been a long-standing member from the start of the thread, and your support is invaluable.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and a good day today!

Good morning! I'm on my way to work even though it's a bank hol! No one can say I don't keep myself busy! I've gained 1lb this week but didn't have a turkey dinner so I'm putting this down to normal fluctuations. I'm 10st4, maintaining happily within my 10st0-10st7 maintaining range. I've been maintaining for just over 3 months now. I began my weight loss journey in Jan 15 at 12st4, doing couch to 5k first, then the 12 week plan. I've lost exactly 2 stone overall :)

Good morning Ruth (fabulous Fab 5'er and amazing stats woman),

Sorry you have work today on this Bank Hol - that isn't fair at all...!!! You are definitely one busy woman...!

Congratulations for maintaining within your maintaining zone, and that 1 pound gain is minimal - like you say, part of normal fluctuations. Really well done for achieving your maintainance level for over 3 months now, that is fantastic!

Also, Congratulations for losing a total of 2 stone exactly for your 2015 progress result.

Hope your day goes well, despite having to work, and hope you have a great week. Thanks again for your great support with this thread and for your diligent stats production, which we always appreciate.

I actually chose to work today would you believe - it's private freelance work and well paid, so no need to feel too sorry for me! Also it's only a half day and I'm meeting a friend for tea in town afterwards. Now you don't feel sorry for me at all I bet! I didn't get a chance to comment on your amazing achievements as I was in such a rush this morning - I know it wasn't lost this year, but I wanted to say hearing about your overall weight loss is truly amazing. I look forward to hearing what you decide to do next year. Your current BMI is much lower than mine - I'm about 24.5. I do think I could achieve a lot more in terms of fitness, but I'm not planning to lose any more weight. I'm focussing on keeping things sustainable and not letting food/fitting into clothes be something that stresses me out anymore :)

I need to loose 4 and a half stone! I would like to join the thread but not sure what to do 😁

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toTheobald

Hi Theobald,

You've just joined the thread, so Welcome!!!! :-)

It's your first week with us, so I would suggest that if you feel comfortable to do so, you just tell us your starting weight and, if you know what your weight loss goals are - (good to choose short-term goals to lead to long term ones) - then share those too.

But you might want to take a look at the NHS 12 week plan first, so you can familiarise yourself with that, and maybe if you like the structure, you might consider trying 'week 1' of that plan.

We are here every Monday, and so you would then just re-join the thread next Monday (4th January) and report your progress over the week. Basically people share what they feel comfortable to share - so the content is up to you. If you're not comfortable with sharing your starting weight, that's fine - you can just say you would like to lose a certain amount of weight without revealing it - which is what you've actually done, and that's fine. :-)

If you are using the NHS 12 week plan, then I'd recommend also using an app to help make it easier to track calories and exercise etc - something like Myfitnesspal is good, and is free and easy to use.

Also, many people take their starting measurements, as it can be helpful to see the changes in those over time, and the scales don't always show improvements - and on those occasions, noticing changes in measurements can really help. It's not all about the scales.

Wishing you a great first week, and hope you enjoy being part of this thread and forum.

Hello....... Well a small gain 3/4lb, although the start of the week, I did eat a whole box of Lindt balls, which I should have given away, oops!

Today 10st 6 1/4lb, last week I was 10st 5 1/2lbs, maintained for the last 4 weeks, started my weight loss journey weighing 12st 6lbs, in March 2012, 11st by the July, then maintained at 11st for ages, rejoined here at 11st 2lbs about 3 months ago.

I know it's a combination of nibbles , stuff that I wouldn't normally touch, and a touch of bloating ( low carb seems to be the way to go).

Good morning all,

Well i originally started my weight loss back in march 2014 and i weighed 12st 2lb and over 8 months managed to get down to 10st 6lb which is also where i got too confident and stopped keeping track of things. Popped buttons and split trousers in September 2015 and shocked myself at weighing in at 11st 13lb was a bit disappointed with myself. Got back on track and last week weighed in at 10st 7lb so almost back to where i was. Weighed in today and was delighed to still see 10st 7lb on the scales so i maintained this week 😀

Hi Kars1111,

Firstly, well done for maintaining your weight this week, despite the festivities and challenges within the week. That is a great result!

Your post is inspiring, as it shows how you can get back on track after re-gaining some weight, and succeed - since re-starting in September 2015, you've lost a total of 1 stone 6 pounds, and that is absolutely fantastic!!! Really well done. :-)

I would recommend you stick around with us, so you can gain confidence in your ability to maintain your weight from here forwards. Are you down to your maintenance weight yet, or do you still hope to lose more weight?

You've done so well, and I hope you have a great week ahead, and that 2016 will be a great year for us all.

I'm planning on joining slimming world (2nd time) on 9th Jan (I'm away to Amsterdam on 2nd)

it's my first bridesmaid dress fitting tomorrow

I'm way too fat for the dress ;(

It's 8 weeks 5 days to the wedding

Today is day 1 for me

I'm going to the gym today then swimming

But I exercise loads

I know it's the fault of the alcohol for me

I will cut way back and drink less alcohol

Like il not drink till Amsterdam and then not at all till the wedding

Good luck with cutting out the alcohol Bonnie, cos I think you're right, it is your Achilles heel.

Let's hope it's second time lucky at Slimming World too.

Have a great time in Amsterdam, but try not to overindulge - keep thinking of that bridesmaid's dress.

Hi, I started my journey on 10th August 2015. I weighed 14st 0.5lbs. Now at the end of week 19 I weigh 11st 9.75lbs a total loss of 2st 4.75lbs. Last week I weighed 11t 7lbs so I have put on 2.75lbs over Christmas, could of been worse as I did eat a lot and had no real time to exercise, so I am sure I will soon be back on track. This is also the first week that I have not lost anything so I can't complain.

I still need to lose 1st 3.75lbs to get into the healthy range for my height, which is 5ft 4.5 inches. I am hoping to achieve this by the summer.

Good luck and well done to everyone. Thank you fab5 for all your hard work, I could not have done it without this Monday weigh in and all the brilliant support on this site.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to191253summer

What a great achievement to get to 19 weeks without a gain or a maintain. 2st 4.75lbs is a fantastic loss and you must be feeling great. I'm sure that once you get back to exercising that gain of 2.75lbs will fly off.

This site and this thread are crucial to everyone's success and I'm as grateful to them as you are. You don't need to thank me, I love every minute I spend here, being part of everyone's journey :)

Only 17.75lbs to go and I'm sure you'll achieve that by the summer :)

Hi Lowcal & the other fab fivers,

As you know I am not a Monday weigher and have decided not to weigh now until 31/12 - if I am brave enough!

So this year has been pretty good for me. I first weighed on 14/2/15 and since then I have lost 65.5lb. Would be great to do the same again next year :)

I did not realise how much you have lost Lowcal and the fact you have maintained it for so long is amazing even if those 12s are eluding you.

Thanks you Lowcal & the other fab fivers for running this great thread, whilst I don't often contribute I do love to read everyone's progress :)

Here's to a successful 2016 for us all :)

Hello to all, I have to take a really serious look at my weight, right now the scales said 12st 4 lbs, I have other medical problems which are not being helped by the extra weight at all. I am 60 years old and 5ft 2ins. So here's hoping that 2016 will help me in all sorts of ways. First newbie post over!

Hi and welcome Marian :)

It's great that you've chosen to join us and have declared your starting stats :)

Have you downloaded the NHS 12 week plan? It's a great way to start your healthy eating.

Together we can beat this weight malarkey and I'm sure 2016 will see you stones lighter and much healthier and happier :)

All the very best to you :)

I decided my scales were unreliable, three different weights in three minutes! New battery, new start.

Weight today 16st. 2lbs. lower than all three previous readings.

5 lbs. down on starting weight, four weeks ago. More active, less food, time to start a proper plan.

Santa was very generous, with the calories. Toffees, shortbread, chocolate biscuits, pralines, and last but by no mean least, kendal mint cake, 95 % carbohydrate!

Chocolate biscuits and pralines re-gifted already, to people who will share them. I might eat them all at once.

I should have put a new battery in my scales, maybe they would have shown a loss too ;)

Were you thinking of starting the NHS 12 week plan? It's a nice easy starter kit :)

Here's to 2016 and a final farewell to all unwanted pounds :)

Hi, I don't usually weigh in on a Monday (Wed has always been my day) but I thought I'd post my first years progress for you guys. I'm not sure of the exact day but I started eating healthier the week between Christmas and New year's last year. I had been struggling for 3 months to start eating healthy and my sugar addiction was still winning but then something just clicked in my brain. It took a lot of hard work and support from my doctor and friends.

This time last year I weighed in at 20st 7lbs and was wearing size 20/22 clothes, height 5'5". Today I weigh 13st 12lbs and am a size 14! Never in a million years did I think I would make it this far. 2015 total weight loss is 6st 9lbs.

I was quite worried about this time of year but I've managed to maintain my weight the last couple weeks and am not beating myself up about the naughty moments I'm having. I will however be glad when things go back to normal in January and my exercise classes are running.

My goals for 2016 are to reach a size 12 and tone all those horrible wobbly bits I have after so much weight loss. I know I won't ever have a perfect body after the size I used to be but I believe I can improve on what it is now. Any help and advice from those who have dealt with this already would be greatly appreciated. I think learning to maintain next year will also be a challenge but as this site has inspired me this year on my weight loss journey it will continue to do so next year.

Thank you everyone and good luck for next year! Xxx

You're another one for me to chase :) I'm so inspired by all you trail blazers :)

You've also cracked maintainance without being anal too, which I'm very envious about :)

Wish I could help out with your wobbly bits, but I'm desperately trying to keep mine under control and I haven't lost half as much as you! :)

Here's to 2016, size 12 and no wobbly bits :)

Me who used to go through jellies and now.. :)

in reply tobakersdozen

You have company here too - no dairy/wheat since May because of possible endometriosis or general digestive issues. My stomach feels healthy again, cramps gone etc, but the downside is I can't just say yes to any chocolate - it has to be proper dark chocolate! Is dark chocolate (e.g. Lindt/Green&Blacks) low enough in sugar for you to have too?

Can't eat any sugar and yeast due to Thrush and I have to remember not to finish off my son's left over lunch as it is full of sugar I am desperate to get rid of my Thrush. Now finally I have learnt to deal with infertility in a healthier way.

Sorry had to write this down as I do not want to cheat again.

It is nice to know I have company.

Amazed that I lost any weight at all, delighted I hadn't gained, I lost quarter of a pound 😃. However I did break a tooth so maybe that was where it went. I jest not, if you could see the amount I drunk alone 😕 it was no wonder I ended up feeling pretty rubbish.

Morning Lowcal, morning everyone

I hope you all had a very nice Christmas, I have enjoyed celebrating with family and friends and have had nice food and a few too many alcoholic drinks.

Now for my stats:

I started my weight loss journey in July at 11st 5lb, at only 5ft 3in I was the heaviest that I had ever been. My motivation to lose weight was my holiday to the Caribbean which I am so excited about. I leave tomorrow and am thrilled to be travelling 1st 1lb lighter than in July. I can't believe that I have maintained my weight over Christmas week and now weigh 10st 4lb, just 2lb away from a healthy BMI.

My target whilst I am away is to try to maintain my current weight and get back to plan in January when I get back, my next weigh in will be 25th January.

A big thank you to the Fab 5 for your continued hard work on the forum, you guys have really helped to keep me on the straight and narrow and given me support when I have had a little wobble.

Happy New Year to everyone, may 2016 be a good year for our continued weight loss journeys.

I hope you do at least manage to maintain, but if not, never mind, just enjoy this amazing trip and deal with things when you come home :)

Thanks for the thanks, but we just love giving you a boost when you have a wobble :)

Have a wonderful time in the Caribbean and we'll look forward to hearing all about it on the 25th :)

Hi folks,

This is my first time at the Monday group weigh in. I did weigh myself on Christmas Day and, after three days of roast dinners (one of which was a three course meal) and a slice of my birthday cake, I have put on one pound. Slightly disappointed as I had sorbet instead of choc profiteroles and haven't had any chocs, alcohol, mince pies or biscuits. But today is a new day and, for me, day one of the 12 week plan. so today 11st 8lbs, need to lose at least 3 stone cos I'm short. With all the support on here, I know it's possible.

Hope you enjoyed your Birthday, and belated 'Happy Birthday' for then.

Hi I'm a newbie - (well i registered a couple of weeks ago but decided i'd better get the xmas binge out of the way first before I started!) So here I am 41 years old, 5ft 10 and 17 flipping scary stones of lard!!!!!! So I've got 5 stones or 70 lbs to lose- yikes!

I've signed up to mfp to watch my cals and planned my day today- i've also switched from dairy to coconut milk in an attempt to reduce my dairy intolerance symptoms.

I know this isnt going to be easy at times but I'm so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired that I need to do whatever it takes now.

As i sit here I've got a pounding headache, I feel sick and I feel a little anxious because my "food crutch" is no longer so freely available but at the same time I'm filled with hope, a seedling of self-respect and a sense of not being alone because you've all done this too.

So today is my Day 1- I'm out of the starting gate...

:-) Take it easy MR - Moreless has given great advice. The usual mantra on this site - is that Rome was not built in a day and so your weight loss progression can be frustrating slow business and won't happen overnight. The important part is to start somewhere that feels manageable. A really great start is tracking what you eat - everything and you just might be amazed who much you are consuming. The next step is to cut down portions and adjust what you eat. Most of it is about retraining our appetite to eat - good nutritional calories rather than those on the 'naughty' list. For my part I have just about got to - is this 'treat' worth the calories ....

good luck for next week and we look forward to seeing you in 2016:-)

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is well after the Christmas festivities.

Started my journey: 19th June 2015: 12st 6.5lbs

Last week: 21st Dec 2015: 10st 9.25lbs

This week: 28th June 2015: 10st 7.25lbs

That's a loss this week of exactly 2lbs and that's including weight I'd put back on the previous week.

Overall weight loss since June 2015 is 1st 13.25lbs , so heading now towards my 2st weight loss milestone. Now in a size 14 dress and new size 12/14 pj's.

Next week would like to lose 1- 2lbs, but with New Year celebrations in the way any loss would be good, would love to get to my 2st milestone though.

Hope you all have some awesome New Year celebrations and see you in January.

I suspect you will achieve your goal to be in the late 10's instead of early 11's, as I have no doubt as to your commitment and enthusiasm to succeed.

Enjoy your day, and marry those folks - I bet they are very excited, and it's lovely that you're going to be helping them to enjoy their day. :-)

Lowcal :-)

Somewhere around April, I admitted to myself I was 13 stone (I think I was actually about 13 and a half) and that that was unacceptable. I am now 11stone 11 so a loss of 17 lbs. I had gone down to 11.8 last week but think 3 lbs have gone on over last few days, hopefully I can shift them before I go on holiday next Saturday. A few years ago I lost about a stone and got to 11 stone; which worked pretty well for me. However, having looked at various calculators etc I think 10 st, 10 is actually the top of a 'healthy' weight for me and I have altered my long term target to that and will review then. I should have lost weight more quickly. I haven't done enough exercise, but even what I have done has helped. I've been swimming a fair bit as I really can't run (or not at the moment). This forum has really helped, reading about people's journeys and seeing how hard so many people are working has made me realise what I have to do to make change and what I can do (more!) Thank you all and good luck to everyone for 2016 and the non-stop road to better health; which is, for me, all it is about. (Though it is nice to get closer to smaller sizes in shops and clothes looking much much better!

You sound motivated and enthusiastic - and here's to continued in-roads in 2016 to better health - definitely what it's about - a couldn't agree more.

Clothes shopping and enjoying wearing clothes that fit well is also good, like you say. :-)

Wishing you a great week ahead and a fantastic year in 2016. Not long till your holiday!

I agree that other members stories are so motivating :)

Here's to 2016 bringing health and skinny clothes :)

Should have also said that looking back on photos on phone was very revealing! A really good way of seeing what's going on; literally!

Thanks and good wishes to you also. x

I can't really do that, as I haven't let anyone take a photo of me for about 5 years and I was much smaller then than I am now.

Hello Fab5 and everyone

hope you all had a fantastic Christmas!!!

Am late here today as we went for a little walk and now I had to find all the necessary "stats".

I joined here 29. July this year, just before our holiday. When we got back I brought home extra holiday baggage and weighed 212.7 lb.

Today I weigh 194.2 lb, which is a loss of 18.5 lb. Not bad, but I could have done better, never mind.

Last week I weighed in at 192.4 lb, today 194.2 lb, so a gain of 1.8 lb. Very pleased as I expected MUCH worse ( Xmas dinner, boxing day buffet, beer, rum,... ).

Overall I feel much better- I have learnt to change my portion size, some meals I avoid and have something else, some meals I eat an "adapted" version, and most of all, I have become more active and am enjoying it !!!

My aim for this year is to complete the "Couch to 5km", I don't think I will ever do more as I am surprised my body had held together this far ;-) I am in week 5, but run each section at least 2-3 times as I am worried something is going to give way ;-)

I would love to reach my target weight this year, which is somewhere around 155 lb, but again, my next goal is to see the back of 190's.

I will have to learn to be more consistent as I know I could have lost more in the last few months, but again, I will get there.

My best part of this year is finding you all here, as it have finally given me all the things I needed to get going, and need to keep going, so a BIG THANK YOU to all who have been there along the way, or who have posted posts that have inspired me, encouraged me, gave me a push,.....

Phew, sorry, that was more then intended, but being that this is the final 2015 group weigh-in, I hope you don't mind xx

Hi Elissy,

Wow, Congratulations on losing 18.5 pounds in 2015, that is really great! You have done really well, so try to challenge that thought that you could have done better. Also, you've only gained 1.8 pound in Christmas week - that is a very small amount to gain in such circumstances. I have gained almost half a stone in 2 weeks if I add this week and last week's Christmas gains.

You are making great progress with your Couch to 5k - great to hear you're in week 5 of that already.

You're giving yourself manageable chunks of weight to lose, in terms of your goals, and that is a very sensible approach. Hope you'll see the back of those 190's very soon!

I am so glad you wrote a detailed post of your successes, because it is inspiring to read, and brilliant achievements.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and a positive year in 2016.

I think you've done an absolutely brilliant job. You've lost heaps of weight in a calm and unfrenetic manner, which is really enviable.

As for the Couch 2 5K, well I'm completely in awe! WTG you! :)

Here's to 2016 seeing you at 155, or thereabouts :)

So I've been at this for 9 weeks now and I have lost 8.6kg in total

This week I have put on 100g! I am happy with that as I haven't been watching anything i have eaten and drunk what I wanted

Although that is less than what I would have done last year!

I plan on continuing so we shall see what happens into the new year :)

Wishing you a great week ahead, and all the best for 2016.

I hope to lose another 11-13kg in 12 weeks, not sure how realistic that is but I'm going to try and stick to my 1kg a week and see how it happens

If I lose another 7kg I'm at the top of my bmi ideal weight so could take that but I'm aiming for 13! :)

Here goes 2016!

Zest profile image

The thing is Wood, that you can see how you go - 1kg a week should be achievable, but if you find it is too tough to achieve that much, you can slow it down. Just see how you go, and if this year is anything to go by, then 2016 should be equally inspiring! :-)

Hi Lowcal - I really enjoyed your post this morning - what an amazing three years you have had . you are an inspiration to me on so many levels. Thanks for all your help this year.

Last week my weight stayed the same (!) but off came another cm off my waist and hips.

I lost 9 kgs last year, since May 27th. Because of all the exercise, I went from a size 22 to a size 16 and lost 14 inches of my waist and 7 inches of my hips and all my arm flab and love handles. Not spectacular results but wonderful for me nevertheless. There is no metric to describe how much better I feel. Thanks to everyone here on this site you are all a huge help.

Looking forward to reading everyone elses posts later today.

Hi Gonti,

Thank you for your very kind words, which I appreciate! :-)

Great to hear you maintained your weight over Christmas, and that another cm came off your waist, that is an excellent result for this festive time of year!

Congratulations on your fantastic achievements for 2015 - losing 9kgs since May 27th, and dropping 3 dress sizes to a size 16. You have lost numerous inches off all pertinent areas! I think your results ARE DEFINITELY spectacular - no doubt about it! :-)

I love your statement "There is no metric to describe how much better I feel" - that is priceless.

Yours and the many posts in this thread today are awe-inspiring. I think I will be carrying the resulting 'feel-good' factor well into 2016, like a beacon of sparkling light. I find it so inspiring - I wish I could extend my vocabulary to describe it better, but I'll have to go with those words. Somehow they don't do it justice!

Wishing you another great week ahead and a positive year in 2016.

I do weights twice a week - this began in May when I couldn't walk after a serious knee injury - I immediately found it really soothing and relaxing, like yoga, but the results have taken months to kick in. Half an hour onon weights machines and half an hour on various stretches, situps etc.

Great time to listen to music.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toGonti

I'm assuming you do this at the gym. Is there anything I could do at home? I've been using a kettlebell to do various lifts (not very well, I have to admit) and I carry it for squats and lunges and use it as a weight for leg lifts. Am I completely on the wrong track, or could a little tweaking get me on the right path?

in reply toGonti

Love this - "There is no metric to describe how much better I feel" - I definitely agree with that :)

Gonti profile image
Gonti10 kg

I honestly think you are on the right track with just about everything at the moment and of course you are open to loads of new things because the weight loss is so awesome for you (lucky lucky woman) and that is making lots of things possible.

I have to use the gym because I use the machines and other bits of kit. I can't use many of the free weights because of my gimpy knee. That said I do like to check with the other people there and get ideas.

Kettle bells + Ab crunches + planks supported by Youtube tutorials+ books from the library should work well. Whatever your goal, the key is definitely good form - ie spending lots of sessions making sure you are doing things exactly right - injury and muscle strain is a huge clue !! and then trying to progress by doing one more rep or one tiny bit of extra weight on one exercise per session - keep notes.

To mix it up if Santa did not provide the following and you can still find £10 (small cough!) buy some combination of ankle weights (hamstring curls/leglifts), or therabands or a yoga strap or skipping rope . I have also an exercise step (heel raises and balancing) which multifunctions in curious ways (has the Christmas tree on right now!)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toGonti

I'm definitely going to start a collection of smaller useful exercise items and have a huge number on my Amazon wish list :)

I got a hula hoop from Santa, but cannot get the thing to work, no matter how hard I try. I guess I'll have to just keep at it :)

I keep charts for everything, it stops me "imagining" that I've done things, when actually I haven't :)

There are some exercises that I just can't do yet. I can't kneel at all and have great difficulty getting up from the floor, but as soon as I'm able I shall start burpees and press ups.

Multifunctioning is fine, it's when the kettlebell is only used as a door stop, that it becomes a problem :)

Gonti profile image
Gonti10 kg in reply tomoreless

In June last year I spent half and hour practicing in very slow motion getting up and down back down to/from the floor and trying the different combinations of limbs, stools and props. This session was so helpful and you should notice it get much easier in the next few months.

Hi Gonti,

Happy New Year!

Just saw you reply to Moreless, and wanted to add that I was reading recently about doing squats where you stay still in the squatting position for 30 seconds before then finishing the move off, and the benefits of that kind of slow movement and fixed pauses, thereby strengthening the core etc. The same for press-ups, and planks, i.e. holding the pose mid press-up for 30 seconds and then completing the move.

I'm thinking of doing more squats, press-ups and sit-ups using that method, although I've not actually tried it yet... Is that the kind of things you're meaning when you're talking about the 'slow motion' movements?

It does sound really good for the core muscles.

Lowcal :-)

Gonti profile image
Gonti10 kg in reply toZest

Happy happy New Year Lowcal.

That's not what I was talking about but it sounds intriguing and very good for the poor core- I definitely cannot hold a squat for 30 seconds but perhaps I should try!!.

I was talking about taking a problem movement - in this case getting up off the floor and breaking it down into the different segments to find out where the problem is - then usually there is a workaround. This approach has also got me jumping on a trampoline and I working on hopping...!!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply toGonti

I shall keep trying, because I'm absolutely determined to be able to do it :)

Happy new year Moreless,

You will be eventually be rising up of the floor using only your hands via a downward dog position (that's where I am) and one day be able to go up and down just in a single movement powered from your legs from a cross legged position (me not yet) . Each of those will be one of those lovely milestone moments that the whole project of getting healthy delivers regularly.

Am thrilled about your bike, love the idea of a sofa-bike - go Moreless...

Hi ElRow1324,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us in this Monday group weigh-in. You've shared all your stats - and I hope that felt ok to do so.

Have you looked at the NHS 12 week plan? I'd recommend that as a good structure with some excellent advice - and you could use an app like Myfitnesspal to help you to keep track of your calories and exercise, if you wanted to take that approach.

The NHS calculator would help you with the recommended daily calories for your current levels of activity, and ideally people usually lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week. I'm not sure how many weeks there are till your Birthday in May, but you should be able to make some good progress on the weight loss journey by then, so good luck with your goals. Having some smaller mini goals can be helpful too - as they are more encouraging when you achieve them.

Wishing you success, and look forward to catching up with you at next Monday's weigh-in.

Hope 2016 is a great year for you.

It's great to hear that you're aiming for a generally healthier lifestyle, and hopefully being a member of this community and joining in the Monday weigh-in thread will be helpful. People in this thread are very supportive, and I hope you'll really enjoy being with us on our weight loss journeys.

You've shared your starting weight, and also your goal - I'd recommend taking a look at the NHS 12 week plan for a good structure with helpful advice. Many of us use an app alongside (e.g. Myfitnesspal) to help with the calculation of calories and noting exercise etc. Worth a look if you've not seen it.

Hi folks, I hope you all had a good Christmas. A bit of a waffle coming up I'm afraid. For all you admin who are so busy with reading everyone else's posts too and may not have the time, to make it quicker for you I will do a summary list of the info Lowcal asks for, right at the end, so just scroll past all the rambling text - lol!

As planned, I had two days off where I didn't worry about calories at all. The only trouble is, I had an additional two days off. I allowed myself to be egged on by son and hubby, even though I knew what the consequences would be, because I only have to look at a biscuit or piece of cake to put weight on. My father did a huge roast dinner on Christmas Day, with pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, stuffing, the works. He puts the food directly on the plates rather than having a "serve yourself" affair with lots of dishes, and we arrived late, so I had a massive plate full. I still have a problem with leaving food on the plate when I visit my parents, we were brought up to clear our plates due to lack of money, no waste etc. I could have left food, but I'd have felt guilty and so I ate the lot, and, I have to say, felt uncomfortably full afterwards. Parents bought a huge chocolate cake bought for my birthday and so pieces of that were consumed day after day until it was all used up. Ditto a chocolate cheesecake. There was butter in the house, so buttered toast was consumed instead of cereal. You get the general idea. So, not only did I leap off the wagon, I am currently in a high speed taxi chasing after it in order to get back on, if someone will throw me a rope please! Such a shame, I had felt so in control prior to Christmas. Never mind, I'm taking that control back right now! Dad invited us over for a roast on New Year's Day and I told him straight, please keep it basic, I WILL NOT be over-eating and will be leaving food otherwise.

I accept full responsibility for what I ate, gone are the days of blaming anyone else for providing food, they didn't hold a gun to my head and force me to eat it, they just said, you deserve a few days off, it won't make that much difference, etc, and I made the choice to go with it instead of sticking to my guns. So, it's entirely my fault that I have put on a whopping great 6 1/4 pounds this week. Believe it or not, after a lot of thinking things over, I actually think this is a positive thing. I went back over the days and looked at the calories in what I was eating and it was absolutely FRIGHTENING! This Christmas has been a lesson in what I absolutely do NOT want to do ever again. I have been completely honest with my husband, son and mum and dad about how much I have put on in such a short space of time. They are amazed. The thing is, I swear people do not believe you when you say, I really can't eat that, I'm going to put on half a stone this week. I think I have finally illustrated to them that I am not lying, this really does happen, a few days of goodies can destroy my weight loss and result in a half a stone gain in the blink of an eye. I am going to be very firm in future and constantly refer them back to what has happened this Christmas as a reminder that I'm not joking or being silly or obsessive about food, I genuinely CANNOT eat that extra thing here and there or I will balloon! So, the positive I take away from this Christmas is that I have physically proved to everyone how delicate the balance is for me when it comes to weight loss. It is also a stark reminder to myself of how easy it is for things to go backwards unless I keep right on top of watching what I eat, every single day.

Phew, enough of all that, I have a veg stir fry to prepare for tea so I'd better do the summary now for all you lovely admin...all counting as of today's date, so I'm adding on the extra pounds I put on over Christmas, as unfortunately they now exist - no point in trying to avoid it, it happened, now time to move onwards and downwards!

(a), (b), (c) Start date: 2nd September 2015

Total weight lost in 2015, as at 28 Dec = 25 and 1/4 pounds

(d)Weight put on since last Monday = 6 and 1/4 pounds :-(

Also, I just want to say Happy New Year to you all in case I don't get back on before then! I'm very much looking forward to continuing the journey together next year...and so a new chapter begins eh? :-)

moreless profile image

Zest profile image

Hi WeightWarrior,

Thank you for sharing your Christmas week experiences, and I'm glad you went into detail about it, as it really demonstrated the subtle and not so subtle pressures that abound over the Christmas meals - and the influences of family and peer pressure that we are all up against.

i just want to assure you that we are not throwing you any ropes - the weight loss wagon has come back for you, and is picking you up right here and now - you are with us, you are now on the right track again, and that is down to you - the positives in your post are numerous - you have now communicated clearly with your family (husband, son, Mum and Dad) about what happened and how you felt about it - you have shared your wish to change future experiences, and you've let your Dad know that you'd like a basic roast on New Year's Day, and hopefully he will have heard you this time, and will cater accordingly. However, if he should happen to pre-serve your plate for you and you don't like any aspect of what is on that plate - maybe at the start of the meal, just re-plate it in a serving dish and say you would like that to be available to anyone else who wishes to eat it later, but it is more than you are happy with. That way, the food won't be wasted, as you won't have 'left it' on your plate.

Please don't think that the excesses of the Christmas meal will have 'destroyed' your success to date - because that is extremely unlikely - if you get back on track today, that 6.25 pounds should come off relatively quickly - I kid you not, this should happen! I am relying on it myself, as I have also put on nearly half a stone in a couple of weeks of excesses, but now I can get back to 'normal' I hope to lose it relatively quickly.

Enjoy your vegetable stir-fry tonight, but make sure you have some protein and fat within that meal, to keep you satiated and full. It's good to combine the food groups within a meal - balanced is good in terms of food groups and also nutrients.

Future tip re: chocolate Birthday cake - it does freeze well - so does cheesecake I think. I've started to 'go out' for Birthday cake when it's my Birthday - i.e. go to a fancy Pattiserie and literally just eat one piece of delicious cake to celebrate. I know that may sound a little strange, but it really is good fun, and makes an event of the celebration without having the guilt of eating the whole cake.

Now to your progress for 2015 - many many Congratulations on achieving a total loss of 25.25 pounds since 2nd September. That is absolutely fantastic. Keep positive and you'll lose the Christmas gain quickly - your post is really inspiring, as you clearly show the challenges we face at Christmas, and you're tackling them head-on. Good luck with the New Year celebrations.

Wishing you a great week ahead, and a great 2016 too.

May I wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year. My aim is to get into the 12s!

Hi Gobsmacked1,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday group weigh-in. You mentioned that you're currently feeling as if you've got a mountain to climb - and that you'd appreciate a few nudges along the way to keep you going - for climbing any mountain, it's vital to be prepared - you've shared your current BMI and also your ultimate goal to lose 44 pounds, so ideally you need a good healthy eating plan of action to follow - and I would recommend the NHS 12 week plan - you can access the downloadable plan by clicking on the icon in the top middle of the screen, entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' and following the pages till you find the right place. Let me know if you have difficulty accessing or finding it. It's an excellent structure to follow - but it's easier if you also use an app to track your calories and exercise - something like Myfitnesspal is good (and free to use).

Setting yourself some achievable mini goals along the way will help you to keep motivated. Joining in this Monday weigh in group regularly will hopefully help you feel you are not alone in this weight loss journey, and feel free to interact with us and ask us questions about our experiences - as sharing information and experience can really help.

Pre-planning is a great thing - so being able to pre-plan your meals and snacks can really help. If you like cooking, then maybe making some homemade healthy soups to have for lunches can be good - they are filling and nutritious, and warming for this Wintry season.

Hope you have a great first week, and hope to see you at next week's weigh-in in January! We're here every Monday.

Wishing you a great 2016.

Hi Guys..

Just Little update/ Progress

I joined this page back in June (9th to be exact) After weighing myself early May time where i was at my heaviest (19stone 12lbs) - 19 years old

My weight through the months - no regular weigh-ins as they discourage me...

11th June - My weight 18stone 10lbs

27th June - My weight 18stone 1lbs

15th July - My weight 17stone 9lbs

9th August My weight 16stone 12lb

Around Mid august i slowed down, somewhat maintaining my weight "saying i'll get back to it" around mid November i weighed 17stone 7lbs, Then the 18th of December i weighted 17stone 3lbs

Then Christmas time "which normally for me is anything and everything is up for grabs" so i tried controlling myself and exercising and eating less of rubbish foods,

But having a HUGE Christmas dinner & boxing day dinner :D so this year i tried it differently with weighing myself before and after 18th & 28th and successfully lost 1lb :) which over Christmas is great

Start Weight 19st 12lbs

Current Weight 17st 2lbs

So through On/Off dieting through 2015 i have lost - 2ST 10LBS

Hi rjay95,

Thanks for telling us about your weight loss progress for 2015 - that is a fantastic result, and really well done. Losing 2 stone 10 pounds through on/off dieting - you must be really pleased!

Particularly impressed by the fact you've also managed to lose 1 pound over Christmas. That is indeed great! :-)

Really inspiring post, and many thanks for sharing it. Hope to catch up with you again in the future - I know you don't like regular weigh-ins, as for you - it feels discouraging, but I hope you'll let us know how you get on in 2016 at some point. I'll keep an eye out for you in the forum.

Have a great week and another great year ahead.

Hello, Im a newbie... today was my first day on the NHS 12 week plan and im 14.4 stones.. i had lost through healthy diet 1.2 stone from 2014 to 2015 and was on metformin in 2015 for 5-6 months due to insulin resistance but i couldnt bare the symptoms.. as soon as i stopped it I put a stone back on as my metabolism changed dramatically so here we go again...

Its very important to lose 2lb a week so i can get rid of the 1 stone i put back on before i can go for my ivf so i can hopefully start my pregnancy at a healthier weight and have more chances of a successful ivf ( been trying to conceive for 2.5 years now )

Hi and welcome piggychef,

It's great that you've decided to join us and that you've already started the NHS 12 week plan.

With a new year and a new plan, let's hope you get to 13st 4lbs and have a successful IVF outcome.

Wishing you all the best for 2016 :)

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply topiggychef

I wish you luck with ivf been their done it. Exercise is also good if you are not already doing it. I joined a gym at the same time as my ivf and I had tons of energy during the 2 weeks wait, more energy than with my first ivf son as I did not do any exercise than.

You are being very sensible by loosing weight before you start ivf. You will feel fitter and healthier for a successful pregnancy. Good Luck!

piggychef profile image
piggychef in reply tobakersdozen

Thank you very much for the support :) feels good to know im not alone :D i am planning on starting the couch to 5k and/or possibly registering to a gym ..

I was always worried about exercising during the two week wait .. so now that i have a break until we are ready for ivf and i will not get paranoid i have no excuse !

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply topiggychef

During 2 week wait from ivf should be avoided only in case it is unsuccessful you do not want to have guilt feelings but definitely start now the quicker the better. If you have any question just feel free to ask away! we are here to help each other! :)

Well I started this post this morning and computer jammed, so will try again and remember what I put! Well first, Wow what an inspirational read this has been, people should feel very proud of themselves. Also huge thanks to everyone for all the support on here, especially Lowcal.

I started my journey Jan 5th this year. I found the 12 week plan and went for it with no obvious sugar or alcohol for a month and then found this support group which is what has made the difference to me. As for lots , life is hectic with 2 young children and work so I found this online works for me. I read posts how people had lost 4 stone and never dreamed that would be me....1 year on there I am 4 stone lighter ( apart from some extra Christmas pounds). I have enjoyed Christmas but will get back on it and try and reach and stay somewhere in the 11s.

I hope you really enjoyed your christmas and that 2016 sees you reaching the 11's and maintaining them :)

Thank you so much for your very kind words, and also for your consistent support to me throughout the year. I have always appreciated your enthusiastic and positive posts, and I am thrilled to see your 2015 Progress - it is absolutely phenomenal.

Starting your 2015 weight loss journey on 4th January and losing 88 pounds, wow - I am so impressed. Really really well done. :-)

You've gained a mere 1 pound over Christmas - that is also impressive, as I always imagine that people will gain far more than that - and like you say, that pound will soon be off again. Might even disappear overnight if you're lucky!

Hope your new lap-top arrives soon so you can leave the space bar issue behind and no longer rely on the hyphens. Should be lovely to have a new lap-top - really efficient and smooth running, with all the keys working in all the right places - as they should. That would be great!

Hello everyone, I did a couple of posts in September but since then I've been quiet and struggling on in my own way, in the background, occasionally logging in and reading a few updates here & there.

I've been on a diet all my life. Puppy fat when I was young, pregnancy weight that even after the baby was born just wouldn't budge. More weight with a second pregnancy. Then the extra 4 stone that arrived virtually overnight when I quit smoking. Always trying to lose the pounds but steadily gaining them instead. My top weight of 146.2kg was in January 2006 and my lowest weight was 94.6kg June 2009. I was very happy at 94kgs, I was in double digits and under 100kgs. While 15stone may seem enormous to some of you,.... for me, I felt slim, and I felt alive. I mantained around 100kg for about a year.

Slowly and gradually the weight started to creep back on.

Jan 2010 - 102.2

Jan 2011 - 120.0

Jan 2012 - 127.6

Jan 2013 - 125.3

Jan 2014 - 122.0

Jan 2015 - 127.3

1st September 2015 I found myself struggling to find clothes that fit and I weighed 130kgs...that's when I found this site.

I was scared again and I was so unhappy with myself and so, ... this next chapter of my weightloss journey started here on Tuesday 1st September and since then have lost 13kg / 28.6 lbs.... that's my total lost for 2015.

I'll probably slink off back into the woodwork now, and hopefully reappear in a few months time to report more weightloss...........

Thank you for your continued support.

'Cheers' to you all for a happy & healthy 2016.

It's really heartening to read success stories like yours - and you're well on your way to getting back to the weight you felt most comfortable with.

Wishing you every good wish for 2016, and hope to hear further updates on your progress as and when you reappear (which personally, I hope will be often, as you are a lovely person!).

Hi all, overslept on Mon due to a late night out on Sun and struggled to get on thread, then forgot on Tues!

There have been some really positive losses this year and the support on this thread every Monday onwards is amazing :)

I weighed in at 17st9&3/4 on Monday (probably would have been more by Tues...) That is a christmas gain from my last weigh in of 2&3/4lbs..

Over the last year I have lost and gained from around where I am now down to I think 16st3 and back up again :/ my resolve is not what it needs to be I fear but I will keep on the thread and see what I can do in 2016!!

I'm doing dry January and intend to keep it going indefinitely - will probably go for no drinking at home as the year continues - I don't go out that often so I think that is perhaps more realistic for me than a blanket ban.. We'll see!

Sorry for babbling on :)

See you all in the new year :)

Really glad you made it today - great to see you! :-)

You've had a similar Christmas gain to myself - and here's hoping those 2.75 pounds will soon be off again. Hope you had a lovely time over Christmas, and that you enjoyed your night out on Sunday.

I know you've had a few weight fluctuations in the year, and you feel your resolve has wavered sometimes, but the fact you're starting off 2016 with a Dry January will certainly be a great start to the year, and hopefully your resolve will build and strengthen so that you are able to see some great results in 2016. Keep going Kate, we're with you. :-)

Wishing you a great week ahead, and every happiness and lots of great things for 2016.

Lowcal :-)

I'm a new member, been following posts for a few weeks, decided to say hello today and get in gear for the new year.

My weight has crept up over the years to 19 stone, aarrgghh!! Since I am tallish, 5`9" , it could be worse. I am aiming to lose 10% or 2 stone to start with, it's big enough to make a noticeable difference but not too big to seem unachievable.

I plan to eat 1800 cals per day, that's to say to eat 'normally', I get too hungry and my mood drops with my blood sugar levels if I go much lower. Plus to walk 30 mins at least 5 times per week, building up to 30 mins running.

I know it will be slow but hopefully it will be manageable and maintainable, and will give my skin time to adapt - I am very fearful of ending up with saggy skin. I did lose 5lbs before Christmas, put two back on though, gggrrrr! Key thing is not to give in but keep at it.

So here's to a great new year for everyone!

Hi there, just to say you sound very positive in your post. Don't forget if you lose 5lb and put 3lb back on, by my maths that's 2lb off 😀

I have found that the weight goes off, for me, not in a direct downward line but I a 'new low' number appearing then vanishing then becoming the norm. Much better not to stress too much about the occasional lb back on but concentrate on the overall plan. I set tiny targets which are great to achieve- 'under X stone'/ 'start with a y'/ 'not double figures on the lbs over Y stone' / 'less than y 1/2 stone' type of targets.

Good luck and keep positive 😀

Hey everyone sorry for posting so late it's been a hectic few days only just getting round to posting now (just before I head out for an hour of run walks)

I've not managed to read through all the posts so I apologise for giving no support

Congratulations to anyone who lost or maintained this week and not to worry about it for anyone who gained

Ok so as for weightloss ...

Starting weight = 123.2kg

Week 1 = 117.8kg

Week 2 = 116.0kg

Week 3 = 114.6kg

Week 4 = 113.1kg

Week 5 = 112.4kg

Week 6 = 110.7kg

Week 7 = 109.4kg

Week 8 = 107.9kg

Week 9 = 109.9kg

Which means it's a 2Kg gain for me this week

Pretty certain that most of that will be water weight and tbh it's not a big blow to me as I've not worried about what I've been eating or drinking at all over the festivities

But I do feel that it's a bit of a pain for our combined stats! So sorry bout that!

Still aiming for that target weight of 100kg

Should be a pretty clean week apart from Hogmanay so a rebound of 2kg loss should be possible this week and wipe out the last weeks gain

But all in all I'm just hoping to tread water until next weeks weigh in when I'm back at work!

Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and looking forward to the new you in the new year!

Evening all, Im a newbie, ive downloaded the 12 week pack, and willing to get cracking with losing my weight (again). Between 2013 & April 2015 I lost a grand total of 3 stone and dropped 2 dress sizes ( reached size 16) I only had 2 stone left to go before I hit my goal weight. But since a breakdown in a relationship, and alot of other factors, I was shocked when I got on the scales on Monday (just gone) and realised that Ive gained 2 stone!!!! Im now 16st 1lb!!! Im not happy!!, So enough is enough, Ive signed up for couch to 5k in Newport (the beginners 9 week course) which starts on the 12th January. But I need to tackle my food intake too! Im sure with guidence and support I can lose my weight once more. Any advice would be greatly recieved. Not looking forward to weghing on Monday, but Im going to be completly honest bout everything. Hi Wannabeslim16,

Thanks for joining us, and a warm welcome to you! Great that you've downloaded the NHS 12 week plan, and it's great that you're willing to get cracking with losing weight again.

You did really well between 2013 and April 2015 - Congratulations on losing 3 stones, and to dropping 2 dress sizes.

Really sorry to hear you had a breakdown in your relationship at that time, that is really tough. I know you've regained some of the weight you'd lost, but at least you've not regained all of it, and doing the Couch to 5k from 12th January should be really motivating and great exercise.

One thing that helps me a lot is pre-planning - i.e. ensuring you know the kinds of things you're going to eat for the week, and maybe making some homemade soups to freeze and use as and when you need a filling healthy lunch that will sustain you - having a variety of nutritious foods, and ensuring you eat a balanced meal.

Hope the Monday weigh-in is better than you anticipate - as I know you're not looking forward to it, but hopefully you'll enjoy it - as the group are really supportive and welcoming, and I'm sure you'll get to know people as the weeks go by.

Wishing you a great 2016, and here's to you losing your weight again, and being happy and healthy for the future.

A very warm welcome to you, and really glad you're joining the Monday weigh-in group. Hope you enjoyed your 5 day trip, and I know you put on nearly 1.5 kgs, but hopefully that will soon be off again, now you're working towards your target. I'd recommend the NHS 12 week plan as a good structure with lots of good information and advice. But if you do choose to do that, then maybe use an app like Myfitnesspal to help you to track the calories and exercise etc that you do. It really helps, and is free and easy to use.

Will look forward to catching up with you on Monday for the weigh-in, and in the meantime wishing you a Very Happy New Year - enjoy New Year's Eve.

Hi there, I'm posting my weigh in today 31st December- a bit late for 'Monday' weigh in but it's quite significant because it's the end of the year and because I probably whacked another pound back on since Monday 🙄

Anyway I weighed 14st 8lb on Jan 5th 2015 and at 5'81/2" that gave me a 30.5 BMI making me an obese 54 year old. I weighed 12 st 6lb this morning, having got down to 12st 3lb earlier in December. That's a 26 BMI so still not in the healthy range but looking back to this time last year I have to be very happy to have got weight off and kept it off. My initial aim was to get to 12 st 13 and not put any back on. So I am very pleased to have achieved that, and more.

My next aim was to hit the top of the healthy BMI range (11.13) - and I guess that's still my next aim! In the long term I would like to get another stone off and then get to the middle of the healthy range, but right now I need to gear up to tackle the next half stone and get out of the 12s and down to the 11s. I have to say I am utterly thrilled to be able to imagine this is possible and some mornings I am still amazed I am starting with a 12 not a 13 or 14!! I set smaller targets along the way because each bunch of a few lbs lost, and kept off, is a massive achievement for me. I eat a LOT and binge eat the second I'm not watching myself. So I guess I would like to have lost more over the year, but I am still pretty proud of my success and aiming to repeat it in 2016. Having quite a lot of health issues this year I would also vote for a year of improving health in 2016, for me and indeed for everyone else on here!

Happy New Year one and all! Stay positive! 😀🎉💫💃🌟😀

Hi there, I would love to join in this,if that is ok. Motivates me to stay on track. I am new to the site. Started my initial weight loss January 2015 weighing in at 13st. If I'm totally honest I've always been a yo-yo dieter and the ironic thing is I am a receptionist in a gym. As you can imagine the last place I want to go is a gym on my days off. I got down to 11st 1lb in September for a girlie holiday I had booked. After the holiday everything went to pot and the weight has gradually started to creep on. As from today with a couple of days dieting I am 11st 13lb which is obese for my 5ft 3in height I have a 4 night hen do coming up in 16 weeks with some slim women, would love to get to at least 10st 5lb. My main concern is I do not want my children to follow my path of crazy eating habits my daughter at 4yrs is already a very fussy eater and I would like that all to change. My husband and 10yr old son are very encouraging and have great will power so I'm hoping to crack the lifestyle change. There really are some truly inspirational people on this site,so glad I have found it.

Hi Km80,

I'm also glad you've found this site, and that you like the look of it already. I agree that there are some really great people here in this community and it's great that you're planning to join in our Monday group weigh-ins.

The next weigh-in is actually tomorrow (Monday 4th January), so could I suggest that you maybe copy and paste your entry above and put it into tomorrow's weigh-in post? That way your post will be read by the people posting in tomorrow's thread, and you'll be able to see other new people who are joining the same day, as well as the more established members - they are all friendly and supportive.

I'll be posting the thread just before 7am, so you can add your post anytime during the day or even in the evening if you prefer - as there is someone around throughout the day to respond to posters.

Welcome, and hope you'll enjoy being part of the community. Most of us are doing the NHS 12 week plan, which I would definitely recommend as being a great structure. Many people use an app to help to keep track of food and drink intake and exercise, and to calculate calories etc. Myfitnesspal is a good one, and is free and easy to use.

Good luck, and like I say, if you copy and paste your entry into tomorrow's thread, you'll be in the current most up to date weigh-in thread ready for the week ahead.

Hi there. My first time here as I need the encouragement that is clearly available on your great posts and replies. I am 51 and at 11st 13lbs weigh the most I ever have, even at full term of my four pregnancies ! I put on 8lbs last year despite exercising regularly and think the dreaded menopause is making it even harder to lose weight. At weight watchers 12 years ago I managed to get to ideal weight of 9st 4lbs and stayed there for a couple of years. Slowly, and following another baby, I have weight gained.

I think I would be comfortable at 9st 10lbs so 2st 3lbs to lose, roughly 20% of my body weight.

So here goes. I would like to lose 10% in the first 6 weeks with the first couple of weeks at 3-4lbs as a good kick start using the NHS 12 week plan.

Not sure where we post the weigh in, but that always used to help in the past to keep positive even when weight loss hasn't been too good.

Good luck to all of you.

Not what you're looking for?
