Here is today's dinner

Portion of salmon fillet baked in the oven with some chopped tomatoes a half cup of cooked bulgur wheat measured out with broccoli, cauliflower & sweetcorn and black pepper. It's a well balanced plate of food and it was very nice.

Thank you :-) It was really nice and a clean dish low in calories.

Very tasty :) I'm pleased I've already eaten, 'cos I just know that would have made me hungry :)

Thanks Tewson, I love fish as you now know and this is just one of the dinners I love to eat. Very health and the correct portions size. I read in one your responses that you also use a half cup measure of carbs :-) it's a great way to keep them under control and count calories

Me too. Aldi portions are great.

You can do so much with fish which ever cut you like and I have chosen salmon today. I also buy fish from aldi, but my favourite has to be fresh trout baked and flaked :-)

Will give that a go. On Saturdays I go to this fish market and a price of fresh cod

I agree fish is expensive especially fresh fish and I love cod. When I eat cod fish I like to season with jerk and coriander and use beef tomatoes cover in foil and bake. It's like heaven on a plate with a lovely salad. Fish is great for helping with your weight loss and a great source of protein this is why I eat it 4 x per week and it has help me no end on this journey I would recommend it to everyone :-)

Why is fish better than poultry for weight loss? I am obviously vry ignorant.+

trafford1 profile image
trafford1 in reply to bakersdozen

I'm not saying poultry isn't good for weight loss as I do enjoy chicken, but fish is lower in calories as well as providing a high source of protein so for those of us watching our calorie intake fish is a really good option and it's healthy

Thanks for explaining things and for encouraging me to eat more fish than chicken as you are so right fish especially oily fish . Thanks for starting this thread and making me hungry!

Eating more fish with vegetables with a measured half cup of a carb of your choice can make a difference to your weight loss, it has for me anyway. When I used to eat fish before I started this journey I would always fry it or it would come with batter wrapped round it, but not anymore. Bake or steam is the way to go :-)

I was just about to say - Jerk Seasoning :-) It's great - I cover everything with it, salmon, chicken, potato wedges - yum :-)

It's gorge isn't it, love jerk seasoning on everything too, but I have had to cut back this year because it makes the food so tasty I can't control myself so that's the only reason I cut back :-)

Yum :-)

in reply to trafford1

:-) Yeah, I find that - trying to find a way to make food less tasty !!

I think fish is very low in fat.

This portion only has 108 calories only 3 g of fat and 20 g of protein

Ooh I haven't thought of bulgar wheat for ages - good thinking. Sweet corn had dropped off my radar as well and it was a good idea mixing the grain portion in with sweet corn. Looks delicious.

Have been out every night for a fortnight -yearning for home food.

I eat bulgar wheat all the time I have it mixed with mixed bean, sweet corn and instead of rice & peas I use bulgar and gungo peas and instead of rice I use bulgar and kidney beans when making a chilli con carni. It is such a versatile grain and can be used in so many ways, I even add 1 quarter cup of this to an egg salad for lunch.

What are gungo peas? I'm getting some jerk seasoning TODAY! That cod sounds lovely. Your recipes and mixtures sound like my favourite food. Can I come and live in your house please 😃

Sounds fantatstic - I so wish I was a fish person!

Unfortunately I have to force myself to have my fish occasionally - just not my thing but sounds like you enjoyed yours.

And just wanted to say how wonderful you should feel - never forget what a great accomplishment you have achieved with your weight :)

Hi Dave thank you :-) the things you can do with fish is great and it's a shame you only have fish occasionally, maybe it's because you haven't explored different types ? The fish I eat are not fishy fish as I don't like these but a good old meaty fish goes down a treat as well as king prawns.

I do feel wonderful and I am so happy right now with all I have achieved to date it's such a good feeling to live a healthy lifestyle and be healthy. This is the fittest I have been in so many years and wouldn't change it for anything.

:-) :-)

Yes I have tried loads of different types of fish. Its not so much that I dislike the taste - although I do get nauseous from a couple different types - it's more that I feel completely unsatisfied from it, like I have eaten air.

Although I will still have tuna in salad and be OK with it but as my main protein meal I just feel like it doesn't hit the sides :)

I am completely opposite, I feel full and knowing I have eaten something that is good for me is also very satisfying. Love tuna in salad with a boiled egg as I do enjoy foods that are high in protein.

Today's dinner is turkey strips stir fry with bean sprouts and veg and I shall have my carbs for lunch so that will be a cous cous salad and some pasta with a boiled egg :-)yum

Looks lovely Trafford - I don't like salmon, but I could have some smoked haddock instead - I LOVE vulgar wheat. Have you ever used it as a pudding- I found a few recipes online for it, made as normal, but the added sugar ( sweetener for me) and milk or cream ( or low fat yogurt for me again) and fruit. They suggest a few dates or raisins. I'm out of Bulgar at mo, but I'm trying this when I restock. Ever tried it ?

trafford1 profile image

Not tried it as a pud, but I have seen this made as a breakfast and it looked really nice. I use it most days of the week now as when I looked it up it has so many health benefits to it that it is now part of my healthy eating plan. I will look out for some recipes in the future for pudding and thank you for telling me about that. It should be in everyone's cupboard :-) I told my friend and she told hers then she told her mum and the word spread to another friend in another country and now they are all using it and it's great :-)
