I have always loved anything that comes out of the sea(to eat) but since heart failure diagnosis and being put on a salt free diet I put off cooking it because I can't give it taste. I can't use butter or cheese. So I've got a lovely piece of cod in the freezer but don't know what to do. I usually steam it with pepper and some herbs. I'm fine with salt free chicken and other meats and eggs but not fish!

Tips for fish with no salt!
Hi Love100cats
How about some pureed ginger on the fish, and wrapped in foil or a paper parcel - to bake or steam with the fish, whilst it cooks?
Zest
Cod goes really really well with ratatouille type flavours, so maybe roast it with some tomatoes, basil/oregano/garlic, pepper and courgette (maybe olives too if they aren't too salty).
Asian flavours - like Zest has said - some ginger. I've done chilli, soy, ginger, garlic in foil and baked in the oven before.
Another great one is pesto ... blitz up some basil, cashew nuts, oil, parmesan in a food processor and it'll make a pesto. This can be made up and kept in the fridge for a month or so too.
Good point - maybe leave the soy out on that one!
Top it with fresh cilantro
That sounds Latino. Takes me back to my years in Ecuador 😁
😊. Cilantro is so good on many dishes ..I actually add it to salads .I’m from Colombia but I live in USA
Entiendo! Estuve in el Ecuador 4 anos de oven despues de casarme 4 anos mas. Me gusto 😊 la comida. Mi favorite? Seco de chivo. X
Well funnily enough I've just had fish!! Spray tinfoil with rapeseed oil ( I have a spray bottle got from weight watchers few years back but can buy them other places including Lakeland) place fish on grind black pepper on and sprinkle of lemon juice and bake in oven. I had basa but works with cod or haddock
did you see pineapple27's photo of wine-gummy tomatoes she posted with fish? It looked so good. Maybe someone who knows how to link it or tag people or something can point you too it. I made a mental note to try it. Generally I bake fish or poach it in butter and pepper, or add it to curries or fishy soups.
Yes, I also cooked in butter but can't now because of the salt. I have tried salt free butter but it tastes like lard 😣 so the the answer seems to be in using tomatoes, maybe mushrooms but as I said before, I have adapted well to cooking chicken, eggs and meat without salt but found fish awful. But I've got some brilliant ideas from you all. Do you make your soup without salt? I haven't tried that yet.
well, I don't tend to add 'table' salt to things during cooking but then again, I would use the salted butter sometimes which is adding salt. I like unsalted butter too though, or olive oil and use both quite happily Sometimes I use low salt stock cubes. I love freshly ground pepper and use lots. Because I have a fondness for things flavoured with herbs and spices it seems to reduce the need for salt. My taste buds have adapted When my mother visits she finds all my food unsalty and lashes on loads of salt much to my horror
naughty man (I mean that kindly ) my mum has had a stroke so she isn't meant to be touching the salt either
Aren't they naughty! And the older they get the cheekier! I haven't got the heart to nag him. Strange thing is that in 30 years only once has he had swollen ankles. It's not fair! Mine are chubby at the best of times. He has such slim legs he used to be called spider at school and I think they are probably the same now.😣
