Hi Everyone,

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 4.8 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 5.2 pounds, so I've gained 0.4 pound this week. I am disappointed to have gained weight again, but thankfully I did my monthly measurements, and I've lost 1.5 inches from my hips, which explains why my jeans had been getting loose. I bought some slim fitting size 14 jeans about a week ago, and they fit perfectly. Really happy about that. I think the 'strength challenge' suggested by Ruth has been really helpful, and I've toned up as a result of doing some squats, press-ups and sit-ups each day, but I've also had some 'rest days' too to recover.

I hope to keep exercising, and I've been happy with my food choices over the week. I did have a meal out mid week as well. I am hoping to have a loss on the scales next week, all being well.

Just to remind everyone that the 'Fab 5' are:

Prin

Suzybenj

Candystripe

Ruth_Canal_Runner

and

Lowcal (Me)

and we will be working together to respond to you within this Group Weigh-in. Hence you can expect a response from one or more of us at some point today. There were 64 people posting within the thread last week, so it is a large group. If you fancy weighing in with us, please do! Everyone is welcome! :-)

This week, Candystripe and Ruth are both away so we hope they are enjoying their breaks, but I know they will both be reading the thread when they can to catch up on how everyone is doing.

A big thank you to Ruth for compiling our Group stats:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 64

Total people who lost weight: 42 (97.5 pounds lost) (44.23 kilos)

Total people who gained weight: 8 (11.65 pounds gained) (5.28 kilos)

Total people who maintained weight: 4

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 5

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 5

Therefore, overall pounds lost by the group = 85.85 pounds (38.94 kilos)

I hope you'll join us for today's weigh-in, and good luck to everyone - here's to a great week ahead for all of us. :-)

Lowcal :-)

Hello Lowcal and the other fab 4, well done on your inch loss Lowcal, if you're fitting in smaller jeans then your gain is sure to be muscle! Well my scales said I weigh 6 stone this morning, the they said Error. Now I don't think I've lost over 3 stone this week! So I'll get some new batteries and try again tomorrow. Good luck everyone.☀️

Hi Bananacake,

I do hope my gain is muscle, that would be a good result! Thanks for your encouraging words.

Sorry to hear you've had some problems with your scales today. We'll look forward to hearing your result tomorrow - just weigh-in when you can, and Ruth will include your results in our group stats. Good luck!

Put new batteries in my scales this morning and they say I'm 10 stone 10 1/4 😟 which is a lb more than last week. Not very happy as its only week two and I've stuck to the calories and clothes are definitely looser, had to put a belt on my work trousers. I'm hoping the scales were actually giving dodgy readings before rather than I'm going in the wrong direction! So I'll stick to what I'm doing and see what happens next week ☀️

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Fran182716

Hi Bananacake,

Great to see you again, and good that you managed to get those new batteries for your scales. Sorry to hear you've gained a pound this week - but the fact that your clothes are definitely looser, and you had to put a belt on your work trousers suggests that your body shape has changed. The scales don't always reflect those changes, and I think it's a good idea to stick with what you're doing, and see what happens next week.

Maybe the scales aren't as accurate due to the new batteries, and need a bit of time to recalibrate and 'settle in'.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

Congrats on losing inches !! probably more important than a number on a scale anyway. Just think of the muscle you have building :)

This week I finally got below 90 kg! I now weigh 89.8kg so have lost 0.6 kg since last week and a total of 19.4 kg since I began.

Thanks for running this thread - This week I really wanted to give good news so it certainly has helped with my motivation to have the monday weigh in

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to las2811

Hi Las2811,

Thank you! :-) It does show that it's not all about the scales - muscle mass does help burn off more calories in the long-run, so I am pleased to be toning up.

Congratulations to you for getting below 90kg, and to losing 0.6 kg this week - that is fantastic, and brilliant that you've lost a total of 19.4 kg since you began. Really great! :-)

You have certainly shared some good news this week, and it's great that you are feeling motivated by the Monday Group weigh-in. It's great to have you on board. :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Good morning, Lowcal

sorry to hear about your gain, but at least your measurements tell you that something is shifting the right direction :-)

I hope you had a good weekend. Mine was too good - started on Friday with the boy's cricket presentation, and a few pints of Tribute, and a not so active weekend as things just kept cropping up.

Last week I was 206.8 lb, this week I am 207 lb. Glad it didn't go up more, have to get more active this week. All the best,

Elissy

ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Elissy

Hi Elissy,

Thanks, it's good to do measurements as well, especially when there's a change for the better!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the weekend. It sounds like a busy one!

You haven't gained very much weight - I calculate that to be a very minute gain of 0.2 pound so hardly anything at all.

Good luck with your goal to get more active this week, and hope you have a great week ahead.

Thank you Lowcal 😊

Considering what I ate Friday I am pleased 😏

Just looked at my calories again and I think I took them a bit low - my energy levels have been taking a dip. I have upped them so I will see what happens next Monday.

Well done on the inch loss and strength training Lowcal.

I have had an emotional week and one night with no sleep at all, which interfered with my exercise plan a couple of days, but pleased to report a 0.6 kg loss . (1.3lbs)

Started 4/8 63.7kg bmi 26.5

Week 1 61.9 kg

Week2 61.1 kg

Week 3 60.3 kg

Week 4 59.8kg

Week 5 59.1kg

Week6 58.5kg bmi 24.3

Total loss 5.2 kg (12lbs) .

Other triumph is buying size 6 jeans that fit ( even if I think they are more like an 8)

Slow but steady downward trend . So happy with that. Hope to make 58kg by next week.

Have a great week everyone

Hi 2bFabnfit,

Thanks for your kind words. :-)

So sorry to hear you had an emotional week this week, and that your sleep was disturbed, and that your exercise regime was affected as a result. Challenging weeks like that can definitely affect us, and I really hope you are ok.

Congratulations for losing 0.6kg (1.13 lb) despite those factors. That is a really good loss. Like you say, a slow but steady downward trend, which is very healthy and sustainable.

Good luck with your goal to make 58kg by next week.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

You are doing well Lowcal. It must be muscle because of the lost inches. Last week I weighed 13st 6lb today I'm 13st 4lb so that's a lose of 2lb so that's 10.5lbs in 4weeks, so feel very pleased. Now to week 5! Good luck to everyone else stay motivated.

Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week, and to achieving a loss of 10.5 pounds in 4 weeks - that is brilliant! :-)

I hope you're enjoying it, and I hope that week 5 goes really well too.

Yes, like you say, let's hope we all stay 'motivated' - that is certainly something to aim for.

Have a great week.

Hi Everyone.

I stayed the same this week. Looking back. I did not follow my eating plan strictly as I should. I had several slip ups. But I was consistent on the exercise which was a good thing otherwise I could have gained weight.

This week I plan to follow my diet and not exceed 1400calories. I have to make it work.

Hope everyone's weigh in is going great.

Hi Lifestyle-Change,

Well done for maintaining your weight this week - I know you have lost 7.55 kg in total since you started, and you've maintained that weight loss, and that's really good. You have been able to identify that you didn't follow your eating plan strictly last week, so hopefully with some tweaking you'll be on the losing streak again this week.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Sounds really positive Lowcal .. it sounds like there are other changes for you. Well done. My weight today is 14 stone. A 1lb loss, slightly disappointed with that. That is a 12lb loss in 5 weeks. Waist measurement has stayed the same. More of the same this week..Still not there with the resistance training....

Good luck everyone.....have a good week.

Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, and to achieving 12 pounds loss in 5 weeks, that is really great! I know you are slightly disappointed by the 1 pound loss, as you hoped for a bit more, but hopefully you'll be looking forward to being under 14 stone next week, and to being more toned up and fitter with the resistance training. You're going in the right direction, and you're making great progress.

Good morning all :) Lowcal, I know you're disappointed with your gain but I think the scales are obviously not telling the whole story.. 1.5 inches off your hips is a substantial amount and it is great that you comfortably fit your new jeans :)

I had a bad day last week with a bit of a blow-out, and have also been suffering with a UTI but somehow have managed to lose 2lbs. I'm pleased with this as my exercising has been non existent due to the infection (max 30 min walks) I am now 17st5 so hopefully will keep dropping over the next week.

I'm still doing Dryathlon and feeling pretty good about that although it is affecting my sleep quite badly and I'm having bizarre dreams!! Oh well can't have everything ;)

Hope everyone has a happy healthy week :)

Morning!

You know I was just reading about the body getting smaller but scales going up. The article said not to worry about that because the body has an ideal weight that it tries to maintain.

So don't worry about the gain, at least your clothes are feeling bigger which is a good sign :-)

This week I have gained 0.6lbs, I am not disappointed because I know where I went wrong.

I stopped tracking my food and was eating out quite often this week but I am back to my food diary and measuring.

I have also decided to spend some of my hard earned cash on myself and signed up for personal training! with exercise being the only thing I have never tried on my weight loss journey

Sadly the guy cancelled because he was sick but hoping to re-schedule and start getting fit!

Until then I have tried the strength & flex pod cast (really hard to see how I will get fit from those exercises, my body doesn't seem to have any aches and pains afterwards)

And yesterday I discovered Jillian Michaels has a Beginners Shred DVD out and in the evening I managed to just about complete the 20 minutes! really proud of myself

I struggled with the tricep dips on the mat (because I am used to doing it on a chair) and the superman arm & leg extension, I can't seem to lift my legs up when I am lying on my stomach!

I also want to try this

popsugar.com/fitness/Plank-...

but the side balance seems to be on the ankle which looks painful

Anyway looking forward to a week full of healthy eating and exercise :-)

2 pound loss : 169 from 171

After last weeks 3 pound gain thankfully we appear to be going on the right direction.

I think veg and protein appear to be a good mix for me. Rediscovered stirfrys. Tuna for lunch, banana for midday snack when I can feel myself failing.

Just need to nail off breakfast and might be sorted. (Gone off fruit and eggs; coeliac so no gluten)

Also found that I can do 50 squats while kettle boiling ;-)

Big thanks again for all support

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to hubbardhovis67

Hi Hubbardhovis67,

Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week, which means you're back in the right direction. Great that you're re-discovered stir-fries. Do you make your own sauce? I find you have to be very vigilant with those 'ready-made' sauces - as they contain quite a lot of sugar, and it can mean that what would be a really healthy stir-fry can end up being drenched in sugary and salty sauce.

Hope you find something good for your breakfast choices - I usually have porridge with nuts, seeds and fruit - but I know you need to avoid gluten. Maybe someone out there knows of some possible options that they could suggest...? Might be worth putting out a separate 'question post' in the forum?

Great that you have done 50 squats whilst the kettle boils, that is amazing! Do make sure you allow yourself a rest day occasionally though - to let your muscles recover.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

in reply to Zest

Hi Lowcal,

My daughter's friend at school is coeliac and there is apparently a type of oats that he can eat as it contains no gluten. Something to do with how it is milled, I think ? Bit of an odd texture apparently !

Morning lowcal (and the rest of the fab5)

Well done on the inch loss and getting into slim fitting size 14's, that's fantastic news. The strength training obviously working!

I've had a difficult week where I felt really hungry for a couple of days. I managed to deal with it and not overeat, which is an achievement in itself for me!

Weight last week - 13st 8lb

Weight today - 13st 5.75lb

A loss of - 2.25lb 😃 this week (total loss so far of 9.25lb) 😀

So nearly into double figures lost......i'll get there next week!. Be back later to catch up on posts, have to go to work now...,.boo!!

Thanks for your kind words - I am definitely enjoying wearing my new jeans! I am so glad I've been doing more strength training, as it has made a difference. I feel 'stronger' and 'fitter' which are both great feelings! :-)

Glad you got over the couple of days when you felt really hungry. I wonder if that was hormonal, or whether you'd not eaten enough on those days? Great that you didn't 'overeat' that is definitely an achievement, and Congratulations on losing 2.25 pounds this week, and to achieving a total loss of 9.25 pounds, that is nearly double figures, as you say! :-)

You'll get there next week, all being well, and hope you have a great week ahead.

0.4lb isn't much Lowcal, be proud for continuing to make good food choices and doing toning exercises. I myself am finding it harder to fit in exercise that isn't part of a regular class on weekdays, but anyway do bits when I can.

Pleased to report that I'm down to 56.1 kg today, from 57.2 last week. Very happy with that, still heading towards my target of 54. I've Ben weighing myself at different times of the week experimentally and some days I do seem to have gained so my progress chart seems to have littles spikes. I don' mind as long as the general trend is downwards.

Have a great day everyone!

Zest profile image

Hi Carolee13,

Thanks for your supportive words - I am still hoping that the scales will drop soon for me, but in the meantime I am pleased with the progress regarding toning. :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 0.9 kg this week, that is really great! You're getting closer to your target of 54 - hopefully you'll be closer to that target next week, all being well.

I weigh myself every day, and it does fluctuate quite a bit - but like you say as long as the overall trend is downwards, that's what counts! :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Zest profile image

Hi Annde,

Please don't apologise, it's a very personal thing regarding whether someone wants to declare their weight changes - we have some people who contribute to this thread who like to support us, and they don't necessarily declare their weight - but we like to include them in the stats, as contributors to the thread. It's a 'social' thread, and we hope that people will interact with one another - which I'm pleased to say happens regularly, looking back on previous threads.

Congratulations on losing half a pound this week, that is really great! I don't think I've seen you in this Monday weigh-in group before, so a Very Warm Welcome, and I hope we'll see you in future weigh-ins.

It's great to hear your weight loss has been slow and steady, as that's a very healthy way to lose weight.

Morning Lowcal, congrats on the inches lost, that is so great! You've reminded me I should start measuring. Awesome work.

I was 12st 3 last week and weighed in today at 12st 2. Happy with the pound lost. It could have been better. My night out Friday was okay but ended up being a bit emotional and upsetting and so have hidden in my duvet all weekend. Food okay but no exercise and little sleep.

But this week is a new week. Prepared my breakfast and lunch last night (and remembered to pack them this morning!) and trying to cheer myself up.

Have a great week everyone :-)

Hi Spader,

Great to see you again - I remember you joined us last week, and you'd had a really great start in that you lost 4 pounds.

Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, that is really great. I am so sorry to hear that you had an emotional and upsetting evening on Friday though, and that you ended up hidden in your duvet all weekend - I really hope that this week is a better one for you, and that you are feeling ok today. It sounds like you've had a tough time.

Hopefully today will be a bit better - you're already 'prepared' in terms of pre-planning and preparing your breakfast and lunch for today, and of course remembering to pack them - very important! :-)

I really hope you're successful in cheering yourself up, and that you'll feel a bit better as the day progresses. Sending you lots of positive vibes - and hoping you have a better week ahead. Being sleep-deprived never helps either - I hope you are able to get a better night's sleep tonight.

You take care,

After a holiday in Portugal I have gained 4lbs, not bad really. The food was healthy, lots of fresh fish and salads, and I did lots of walking ( over 10,000steps per day) and some swimming, but I also drank wine and ate crisps! So a gain of 4lbs, which takes me up to the dreaded 10stone mark.

So it's back to the diet today. Hoping for a 2lb loss next week.

Keep doing the strength exercises Lowcal, loosing inches is great!

Welcome back from your holiday in Portugal. I hope you had a lovely time - all those fresh fish and salad meals sounds fantastic - and like you say, very healthy. Great that you did lots of walking - wow, that's a lot of steps!!! and the swimming too.

Gaining 4 pounds after a holiday is minimal, and I am sure it will soon come off again, and you'll be back below 10 stone and into the 'Nifty 9's' in now time!!!

Hope you have a great week ahead, and good luck with your goal to lose 2 pounds this week.

Thanks for your supportive words - I am definitely going to continue the strength exercises.

Good morning everyone,

Lowcal, scales as we all know oscillate but tape measures don't and changing room mirrors are the harshest critic of all. Congratulations on those size 14 slimfit jeans - wear them with swagger. You look and are fabulous. 💃

So as for me mixed news. MFP tells me that I did 24 hours of different exercise last week and that at least half of that was cycling or swimming or weights. I ate an average of exactly 1500 calls a day - but that spiked over a very sociable weekend 🍻and so no weight loss this morning. I am still 92.5kgs

Best news is my monthly measurements as I have hit one of my major milestones much faster than I thought. In four months I have taken 11inches off my waist now down to 34.5 inches iebelow 35. 😀Also lost inches of my butt, wrist!!!, and chest . I have very fat legs but I can stand with my feet together and my ankles aren't puffy anymore. Physical fitness indicators all also much improved.

This month I have done loads to improve the way I look for example new haircut, groomed eyebrows, tidy clothes that fit properly, contact lenses and belts! Very few people have commented on the weight loss but every day now someone tells me how much better I am looking.

Next week I am planning a Ruth style boot camp. Doubling down on everything I am already doing. Have some great music that I will add to the mix.

Enjoy your own weeks everyone. I am looking forward to getting home tonight and reading all the posts. I love this thread.

Hi Gonti,

I enjoyed reading your post today very much, because it really shows how much you've changed during the time you've been within the forum - so many positives there - those lovely comments from your colleagues about how great you're looking, and 11 inches off your waist - that's incredible!!! Not to mention the inches lost from other areas too - really good. :-)

Having improvements in your physical fitness indicators shows what great progress you're making.

Also, you've maintained the weight loss you've achieved to date - so well done for maintaining your weight this week. Congratulations! I also remember that last week you were having a busy week with visitors, and you'd asked them not to bring you any chocolates or wine, so I am assuming they stuck to that, and your house is full of flowers now! :-)

Great idea to do a Ruth-style Boot Camp this week - good luck! Ruth will be back later this week, and she's great at keeping an eye on us and rallying us onwards! :-)

Thanks so much for your supportive words - and lovely compliment! :-) I like that icon you used! :-)

Have another great week ahead.

in reply to Gonti

Hi Gonti. This is so positive. So good to hear you're feeling the changes as well as seeing them via the tape measure and mfp stats etc (if not on the scales...). The phrase that jumped out at me was the improvement you'd seen in your 'physical fitness indicators'. I think this is really important. After I finished couch to 5k and went to the nurse to get my inhaler prescription renewed she re-checked my breathing, blood pressure, everything, and it was all massively improved. The feeling of having made those changes myself was immense. So I just want to say congrats for making those changes that are measurably improving your overall health, because I know how good it feels too :)

Morning All!

well done Lowcal on measuring and seeing results.

After getting back in routine, very pleased with a 4lb loss!

thanks for encouragement last week.

I am aiming for 2lb loss by Sunday, so i weight the same as i did when i got married for my 7th wedding anniversary.

Hoping we all have a positive week.

Hi Vickster5,

Good morning!

Thanks very much. :-)

Congratulations to you on losing 4 pounds this week - just shows what you can achieve when you're back in routine, and that is really great! :-)

How exciting that it's your 7th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, and that you're hoping to be the same weight as when you got married by then. Happy Anniversary for then! A great goal to achieve and you are getting close. It could be quite tough to achieve a further 2 pounds after such a large weight loss this week, but wishing you success with your goal.

I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating your 7th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday. Will look forward to catching up with you the following day, if you're up for a weigh-in after your celebrating is over. :-)

Morning everyone!

Congrats on the looking so good in those jeans LowCal - that's more motivating to me then what the scales say!

I was really worried getting on the scales this week as I have had a really bad week foodwise and haven't been able to exercise. The scales have been kind though - I have lost 0.4lbs! I am really surprised and a bit confused (but happy!). Back to this week - I am off work for a staycation until next Wednesday and I am determined to keep busy, plan and be healthy! Going to get my foot looked at so I can start exercising again!

My stats so far:

Starting weight: 10st 4.2lbs

1st week: 10st 1.6lbs (loss 2.6lbs)

2nd week: 9st 13.6lb (loss 2lbs)

3rd week: 9st 13.2lb (loss 0.4 lb)

4th week: 9st 10.8lb (loss 2.4 lbs)

5th week: 9st 9.2lb (loss 1.6lbs)

6th week: 9st 9.4lbs (gain 0.2lbs)

7th week: 9st 9lbs (loss 0.4lbs)

Have a good week everyone!

Hi NoMoreJunk,

Thanks for your kind words. :-)

I can imagine it's very tough for you to be limited in your exercise due to your foot, so I hope it's going ok. I hope your appointment to get your foot looked at goes well, and that you're able to start exercising again soon - but make sure you follow their advice and only do that when it's safe to do so! :-)

Congratulations on losing 0.4 pound this week. I know you're surprised to have lost anything, as you felt you'd had a bad week in terms of food intake and lack of exercise, but you obviously did something right, and you've lost some weight - so that's really great!

Great that you're having a Stacation this week, and I hope you enjoy it, and your plans to keep busy, plan, and be healthy sound like great goals/plans for the week.

Good Morning All,

Well done Lowcal on your smaller measurements, no doubt a smaller waist helps compensate for a very slight gain on the scales?

I've done it, I'm now at my target weight...well in fact I'm 2oz under! I'm very happy about the weight loss especially as I've managed to reach my goal weight 2 weeks before my target date.

Have a great week everyone.

Hi Jenever,

Wow, I am really thrilled to hear the news that you've not only reached your target weight, but you're actually 2oz under! That is fantastic!!! Congratulations!!! :-) To have achieved that 2 weeks before your target date is even better.

I notice that last week you were 1.5 pounds away from your target, so does that mean you lost 1.7 pounds this week? I just want to clarify the amount lost for this week, so Ruth can include it in the group stats.

I hope you've planned some non-food rewards for yourself?

It's so exciting that you've reached your target, and you are an inspiration to us all. :-)

Hi Lowcal,

I hope I haven't misled you or caused a blip in the weekly calculations but to clarify, I needed to shed 1lb 8oz and managed to shed 1lb 10oz. When reporting last week that I needed to lose 1.5lbs I was meaning one and a half pounds.

Hi Jenever,

So for this week, you've lost 1 pound 10 oz - Ruth will find that clarification really helpful, for when she comes to do this week's stats. We had you down for 1 pound loss in the stats last week.

Many thanks for clarifying! Congratulations again! :-)

My first day and weigh, 95.4kg. So a lot of work to do. Calories counting will be hard but I am hoping it will get better once I know a few basics without researching everything.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Beauregard

Hi Beauregard,

A very warm welcome to you, and thank you so much for joining us for this Monday Group Weigh-in. You've taken the brave step of sharing your starting weight, and I hope that felt ok. Hopefully you'll be lighter next week, and on your way towards your weight loss goals.

I'm presuming that you're doing the NHS 12 week plan, as I know that this forum is linked to that plan. Many of us are using that plan, and I can recommend using an app to help you to count the calories and exercise - something like Myfitnesspal for example - as it makes it a much easier process, and less time-consuming. It's a free app and very easy to use, once you get used to it.

I hope you have a great first week. This forum is a very friendly and supportive place, and people tend to post questions and threads regularly, which helps to get the most out of the forum.

I hope we'll see you in future Monday weigh-ins, and good luck with your first week.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Good Morning to you All :-), now the official start I am this morning with 93,4kgs after my inofficial start last Monday with 96,... kgs. I am the typical Jojo- er. Slimming and eating normally on feasts and invitations, and then I lose it all again and become round again. But hoops, Christmas is coming and I want to be in shape again... :-P , you women all, you know how good one feels, if the dress is fitting again, which hangs so loooong on the coat-hanger. So happy fighting to get in shape. Cheerioh!

Hi Flower-Arranger,

Great to see you! Yes, Christmas is a good motivator, and hopefully you'll be be in shape again by then. It's a good goal to have to consider fitting into the dress that's hanging on the coat-hanger - like you say! :-)

Congratulations on losing 2.6 kgs this week, that is really great! :-) I think you make an excellent point about how our weight can fluctuate depending on various 'feasts' and 'invitations' but hopefully you'll be having a downwards trend as we get closer to Christmas, and it's great to have you in the Monday weigh-in group.

Look forward to catching up with you again next week.

Hi,

Just going to reply to people more 'randomly' now, as the other Fab 5'ers (the 3 of us active today) will be responding later today. I will however press 'like' when I've read your post, so if I've not responded to you, the fact I've pressed 'like' indicates I've read your post. One of us, or more of us, will respond to each of you! Noone will be left out. :-)

Many of you will know I've usually responded to each and every post - so it's a bit strange for me to miss people out - but of course we're the 'Fab 5' now, and the thread is much stronger for that excellent support.

Hi fab five - my first weigh in this morning and I am pleased to say, I lost 3 lbs and am indeed no longer 16 - but 15 ... 15st 11 lbs !

Very pleased with my first week which hasn't been too bad. My weekend was pretty good considering, as I've said, its forks up and dig in time in my family. I picked at a few bits and pieces, had a bottle of cider, and i dont think anyone really noticed - I looked at cream cakes in Morrisons, but didn't buy any and felt good when i got home and realised id survived a shopping trip!

I hope everyone is pleased with their progress today. Im off to the osteopath in ten, but my goal for next Monday is to keep to the diet and hopefully either maintain the loss, or lose another pound.

I want this weight off quickly, but i have to be realistic with myself. Historically, my second week is my biggest challenge but im feeling pretty confident knowing you are all here behind me.

Good luck and thanks for your continued support ! Xxx

Hi Lowcal

Well done on getting into your new jeans, it shows your exercise is working for you. You haven't put on much this week I'm sure it will come off for you in time, the problem is now you are feeling and looking better it doesn't feel quite so desperate to get the weight down but you have not been gaining weight so that's good. I am a bit like that myself, but the main thing is not to let it creep back on, so keeping it in check is really important.

I was 12.12 last week and am 12.11 this week so have lost 1lb, my goal at the moment is to get down to 12.7.

Hope everyone has had a good week and good luck for next week.

Morning Fab 5!

I hope everyone is doing well! :)

Even though you have gained Lowcal, you're obviously doing something right. Being able to fit into your new jeans must feel great! Well done! You have inspired me to have a good week now! I also have a pair of size 12 jeans in my drawer that have never been worn but were bought a size too small as an encouragement to get into them!

I managed to miss last weeks weigh in. I had every intention to post but life gets in the way sometimes so I just had a quick catch up read this morning. Last Monday I had gained 2lbs. But I wasn't surprised as I didn't have the best week. :/

So I have weighed this morning and I have stayed the same as last week. 12st 12lbs. This seems to be my magic number as I can't stray too far away from it! :(

I am hoping to this week though. I'm going to do as much exercise as I can fit in, and I've planned my weeks meals ahead again. Plenty of veg ahead of me! :D

I am feeling determined this week. But then, I usually say this every week and end up not doing too well... We shall see what happens!

Good luck this week everyone. :)

Hi Sophie,

We missed you last week, but glad you made it this week, and Congratulations for maintaining your weight loss this week. It does seem that we can plateau at certain weights for certain periods of time, but hopefully you'll be moving downwards from 12 stone 12 pounds very soon. Glad you're feeling inspired to get into your size 12 jeans. It is great to have an incentive like that.

Great that you have pre-planned your week's meals - that is really good, and especially that you're having lots of vegetables within those meals. I wanted to try a recipe for Jerusalem artichoke soup last week, but the supermarket I went into didn't have any of those! I've never asked for them before, as I've never tried them before in my life, but I was a bit shocked that a major supermarket didn't have them. I wonder where I can get them from.

Feeling determined will definitely help Sophie - so keep that feeling, and hopefully you'll see a loss on the scales next week, all being well.

Have a great week, and thanks for your supportive and encouraging words.

Lowcal :-)

in reply to Zest

You would definitely be able to get jerusalem artichokes in Waitrose, that's exactly the sort of thing they'd have - do you have one near you? Also, do you have any Turkish greengrocers or a greengrocers market stall near you? Either of those would be able to get them in for you if you asked. I've never had them, so will be curious to know how the soup turns out :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll try Waitrose. When I do make the soup, I'll let you know how it turns out. The author of the recipe said it is supposed to be really good for digestion, but there was also a warning that it would take a while for the stomach to settle down after first having the soup, so it sounds quite an experience! I was intrigued!

Wow - could be something to try in moderation at first! Good luck :)

Hi Fab 5 and congratulations to all our lovely losers and to those who've not had a good week, because you're still sticking at it! Despite a very stressful and busy week, working long hours and juggling multiple issues, I managed to fight off the urge to eat rubbish (mostly! :0)) and to keep exercising. My thoughts (and hopes) regarding the increase last week, that it was due to PMT, seem to have been correct as I'm pleased to report that I'm down from 17.10.6 last week, to 17.7.7 this morning, so I'm taking that as a 2lb loss over two weeks. That's 1/2 stone off since I started 5 weeks ago. I'd like it to have been more, but I'll settle for 1 lb per week. At least it's in the right direction. Think I need to double check my calories and maybe reduce them a little, also just to be better at recording them, which I mostly didn't last week due to aforementioned issues.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy week.

I agree with you - the contributors within this Monday weigh-in thread are definitely very knowledgeable and have taken control and ownership of their lives and bodies. They are amazing, and I am also in awe of everyone - I love the fact everyone is enthusiastic and motivated. We all have some weeks that are more challenging than others, and the fact we still come here and talk about it in an open and honest way really helps to keep us focused on moving forward.

I love your advice to focus on the wider picture, with regard to people close to their goal weight (like myself) - I definitely relate to that advice. Really helpful.

You have had an amazing week - I have some challenges when it comes to Maths, but I calculate that if you were 19 stone 10 pounds on Monday last week, and now you're 19 stone 4.325 pounds today, then you've lost 5.625 pounds this week. That is a really great first week result! Congratulations! :-)

Hi Lowcal, the Fab Five and everyone else :-)

Lowcal - it seems like it must be muscle you are gaining, as to be able to get into those size 14 jeans, you must be trimming down and toning up - congratulations :-)

Start of week 6 and I have lost 2.4lbs this week. Pleased with this as I've not done much exercise over the last few days of last week due to a miserable couple of 'time of the month' days. Pleased to say that I am feeling much better now and was back out for a C25K run this morning. Overall I've lost 12.2lbs in 5 weeks which I am delighted with :-) But much better is that I seem to have really controlled my snacking habit, even with being at home on my own at lot more this week - so I'm feeling very chuffed !

I know you'd have preferred a loss, but any sort of break or holiday - and especially a Cruise as there are the constant buffet scenarios there (extremely challenging situations!), is challenging.

🍀Hi Lowcal I've decided to make a note of my measurements something I don't normally bother about I usually determine my success by weight loss!....so I'm in experimental mode at the minute by eating sensible my dead line to finish all food intake by 8pm. Using the exercise bike and drinking a lot of green tea.

When I feel the urge to eat later than 8pm I drink water instead because I know psychologically I'm not really hungry it's just become a habit!!

So only time will tell Monday will give me some answers I'm feeling happy and confident right now so like I said before (I'm on it) :-) 🍀

Dear Fab five.

I was doing well during the week last week until my dad came up, we ate out a couple of times, then had biscuit making, village show, birthday party. I ended up eating a fair amount of cake :-( I am up 2lbs. I want to cry. It is so hard to stay good all the time. The weight can really creep back on real quick, can't it? I have been feeling quite guilty.

I am back on the band wagon today. I have recently found out that if we eat enough potassium, this curbs our cravings, which means me using my juicer a lot more, to get all the good plant life into me.

I also didn't know until last night that one 80 cal cookie, can send your mineral and hormonal balances out for up to 72 hours (if you have a low metabolism). That is a dramatic effect from one innocent looking biscuit. So if you have a nice salad or juiced drinks after the cookie, or my case cake over the weekend, you will not get your trace elements from it, as the body is not working adequately to get them, due to the sugar. You continue not to satisfy the bodies requirement for potassium and all the other trace elements and that is why we remain hungry. It was nice to watch Dr Berg videos on you tube last night, he seems to go into a bit more detail of how we work and what we need.

Don't be hard on yourself- just sometimes it is not your week. It is very hard with visitors and going to things like village fetes- all to tempting. So pick yourself up and dust yourself down and re- boot. You have done some great research - eat food you enjoy- but make careful choices. So this week I am in full focus - having had a similar ' social' weekend.

Good luck for this week:-)

That's really interesting about potassium, do you think this is why bananas make such a good snack despite being quite high carb .?

I thought after excercise they are easily digestible?

Zest profile image

Hi MrsBooboo,

I hope you're feeling a bit better, as I know you were feeling quite despondent about your 2 pound gain this week. You certainly had quite a few challenging events - your Dad's visit, baking the biscuits with Little Boo, and the Village show and Birthday party.

I was thinking about what you said about the nutrients in food, and I agree that it's vital to try to have balanced foods to enable us to obtain as many nutrients and vital energy from our foods to ensure we are as healthy as we can be.

I can't say I do this all the time, as I do sometimes have some higher sugar or salty treats that probably massively spike my blood insulin (the sugary treats, not the salty ones obviously...! - just felt the need to edit that bit), but 'usually' I am trying my best to ensure that any meal or snack that I have had a balance of the macronutrients - i.e. some protein, some fat and some carbohydrate. Similarly, when having a snack, I would enjoy a banana, but I'd also accompany that with some protein (almonds for example). The idea being behind that (from what I've read) is that eating some fat and protein with carbohydrate lessens the effect that the carbs have on your blood sugar, thereby lowering the glycaemic load of the meal or snack.

Bananas seem healthy as there is apparently 3.5 grams of fibre and 487 mg of potassium in a large banana. I would tend to choose my bananas when they are 'greener' (i.e. slightly less ripe) as they contain less sugars at that point. If they become over-ripe then I usually put them into homemade banana bread (using a recipe that doesn't contain any added sugar). Ruth has a really delicious recipe for homemade Banana cake that doesn't contain any refined sugar.

Sorry for the longer reply, but your post got me thinking about this, and I wanted to reply with a few thoughts.

Most importantly, I hope you are feeling ok, and that you don't lose your enthusiasm to go forward into next week - you have been making really good progress Mrs Booboo, and we are all behind you in terms of wishing you continued success.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

I was someone who had something with sugar in several times in a day, every day. I am glad those days are behind me now. I can see that I was never giving my body a chance. Also eating in response to stress. That was extremely bad when I was working.

Reflecting on the weekend. I think I ended up making bad choices, partly because I was very tired. Our bed broke, Slept two nights on the mattress on the floor, my hubby made a bed and I have bad reactions to paint fumes, so we have been sleeping on the sofa two nights and again tonight by the looks of it.

Hi MrsBooboo,

Sleep deprivation and/or poor quality of sleep is really difficult - hope the paint fumes go away soon, so you can sleep back in the bed that your hubby made, and hope that you sleep as well as you can tonight.

Morning Fab5 et al, it's a great idea to split the workload in keeping this post going I really appreciate all of the effort that you guys put in, it keeps the motivation on track. I'm later than usual to weigh in today (only landed back from holiday in the early hours) but I'm delighted to have achieved my goal of maintaining my weight whilst away. Straight back to plan today with pilates tonight, golf lesson tomorrow and an additional pilates class on Thursday to catch up last weeks missed class. This weeks goal to lose 2.5 lb and take my loss to date in to double figures. Well done Lowcal for staying so focused after your tiny gain, as you said you are obviously toning up helped along by Ruth's Strength September challenge. Good luck for a good week everyone.

Hello Lowcal, the rest of the fab 5 and everyone else!

I'm just starting out with the NHS weight loss plan. After gaining 10 kgs in the past year I've decided to get some healthier habits going again. Thank you for making these Monday weigh-ins. The community here looks so supportive too :)

My starting weight is 62.2kg (BMI 25.2). I weigh myself in the morning, before breakfast when I'm lightest :)

Hi Sara643,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in. It's great that you're looking forward to getting some healthier habits going again. It is definitely a very supportive community, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of it. :-)

You've taken the brave step of posting your starting weight. You're very close indeed to a healthy BMI. I also weigh myself first thing in the morning, before breakfast. I don't think it matters too much what time you weigh, as long as you're consistent regarding that timing to enable comparisons. I usually post this Monday thread before 7am, so that early morning weighers can join in, and so can later in the day weighers! :-)

I hope you have a great first week, and good luck with your goals. Look forward to catching up with you in future weigh-ins.

Hi Lowcal,

Thanks for the speedy reply and welcome!

I'm of asian descent and found a South Asian BMI calculator on this website: pamf.org/southasian/healthy.... According to that I'm (just) obese! However, with the usual chart, I'm very near a healthy weight.

Thoughts?

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Sara643

Hi Sara,

Thanks, that's really interesting, I hadn't realised there was a BMI calculator specifically for people of South Asian descent - what I noted from your post was that you had gained 10 kg in the past year, so I was presuming you wanted to reduce that weight - I am aware the BMI categories are quite wide ranging.

I use another BMI calculator called the 'new BMI' which apparently caters better for someone of my height (I'm 6 feet 1 inches tall), but it doesn't take ethnicity into account as far as I know. I am within a 'healthy BMI category' on that calculator, but I would like to lose a bit more weight, so I am away from the upper end of that BMI category.

I think it's important to use the BMI calculator that meets a person's requirements. Indeed, I know there are some opinions whereby people argue that BMI isn't helpful, and they recommend waist measurements, so it's an interesting thing to discuss. But I think BMI helps me personally, and I know it is used within the NHS 12 week plan.

Lowcal :-)

I have just joined the group. I started on the 12 week plan last week and have lost 4lb this week keeping to 1400cals. Well chuffed with that.

I also started running about 8 weeks ago in a desperate attempt to shift the pounds but even though I was out 3 times a week for about 30 mins each time (I wouldn't actually be running all that time!) my weight did not move. What I think has helped for me is making sure I get my 5 a day fruit and veg.

Here's to week 2 :)

I bet your looking fabalicious in those hun :-) Always good to tone and tighten up in those area's so keep going with those strength and core exercises

I have lost 2 lbs this week bringing my total weight lost to 72 lbs which I am really pleased with and hope to lose a further pound this week to get me into the 11's. I did have a high carb Sunday dinner yesterday which could effect my weigh in so I am now watching everything and eating some lovely trout and quinoa with spinach today and same again tomorrow.

I am wishing you a loss for next week hun the tables will turn for you I know it :-)

I hope you enjoyed your meals out, and also the 4.5 mile walk on Saturday. I'm wondering if you're still enjoying the 'Hustle class' - it sounds interesting - I have no idea what it involves, but it sounds energetic!

Definitely keep going, and you'll see more changes on the scales and/or measurement changes very soon - I don't know if you take your measurements, but it can be helpful as changes don't always show up on the scales.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal,

Thank you for the reply. I enjoyed the walk, even although it was raining. I walked to a football park to watch my nephew play. He scored a goal, but was unhappy that his team lost and that he'd missed another goal. It was raining on my way home and even although I was offered a lift I declined as I was determined to complete my walk. My nephew and my brother-in-law were impressed. :-D

I didn't make the Highland hustle class last week as I had a sore stomach, but planning on going this week. It does sound fun and I have 2 left feet so I was end up looking clumsy at exercise classes, but it is something new and I am looking forward to it. :-D

I hope you have a great week as well.

On a plus, I have succeeded In running or walking. - minimum of 5k a day since the start of sept. . It is definitely helping mentally & physically.

Good luck all. Hopefully Sunday's (final) birthday day out won't take too much if a toll!

Hi Lowcal, Fab 4 and everyone else,

I have been absent from the group since the beginning of the school holidays and have only just summoned the courage to see how much weight I have put on. I seem to do this every year - as soon as the holidays start I just switch off (you may have guessed I work in a school) - I avoid technology as much as possible and I certainly didn't calorie count! I have just looked back at when I last weighed in and posted and think it was Monday 13th July when I weighed 10 stone 12 pounds and was really happy with that. Two months on and I am back up to 11 stone 3 pounds which isn't horrendous I know but I am a bit cross with myself. Anyway back on the weight-loss treadmill with a goal of a stone off by Christmas so 10 stone 3 pounds - definitely do-able if I commit properly.

It's been good to catch up with the posts and to see where everyone is. Well done Lowcal on the new jeans achievement - always a lovely result to slip into smaller jeans!

I don't know why I go so completely off piste during the summer (well every holiday if I'm honest with myself) - it's a bad habit I must try to break.

I look forward to weighing in and being an active member of the group again.

Best wishes to you all,

Jan x

ZestHealthy BMI in reply to runnerjan

Hi Jan,

Great to see you! We missed you over the Summer holidays, and glad you're back with us again! :-) You've gained 5 pounds over what I calculate to be 9 weeks, so that works out at approx half a pound per week, so we'll add half a pound to this week's group stats providing you're ok with that, ( and providing Ruth is ok with that, as she's calculating our stats - she's a star!)

I think you've made an excellent point that holidays are definitely a 'challenge' - I usually try to cope with them by trying to 'maintain' weight, but it is extremely rare to survive any form of holiday without gaining (at least in my experience!)

Hopefully you'll be back in the 10's again very soon, now that you're back on track and aiming to be an active member of the group again. I am thrilled that you are back with us. :-)

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal, that's great news about the inch loss, and shows that maybe you shouldn't pay too much attention to the tiny gain. Increased muscle makes it easier to burn calories etc going forward so hopefully the loss on the scales will show soon. In the meantime hope you're enjoying your new jeans :)

Posting late on here, hope that's okay! I have lost 3lb since last Monday's weigh-in, i.e. so that's in 9 days rather than 7. I'm now 10st5, which is 2lb below my goal, and 1lb below the max 'normal' BMI. I feel like the continued close watching of my calories combined with the strength exercises, running etc, have all contributed to this. But as stated in my last post I think I pushed myself slightly beyond my limit! I'm rested after 3 days away though, and ready to get back to it (at a slightly less manic level!). I still want to fit into a size 12 pair of jeans, but I'm also onto maintaining now, sticking within the 10-10st7 range. I'm hoping to gradually scale down all my weight-loss efforts but without actually allowing too many bad habits to creep back in :)

Looking forward to reading through the thread more closely, Ruth :)

It shows how disciplined you have been in terms of focusing on watching your calories, and doing the strength exercises etc.

It's particuarly good to hear that you've had a good rest during your 3 days away, and that you're ready to get back to things - but at a more paced level - definitely a good idea! :-)

Great that you've set yourself a maintainance range as well - very sensible strategy. You've got a good plan.
