Back to tension headaches!

I got to see my neurologist on Monday. He felt around, listened to what my other Drs had said, then said it’s definitely not migraines.

He believes they are tension headaches due to spasms, not spasticity in my neck and shoulders.

He told me to stop taking amitripaline, and instead added tizanidine for reducing spasms at night and meloxicam for reducing inflammation in the morning.

He asked why I hadn’t been using ibuprofen or Aleve. I reminded him I used to have bad gastritis and was told not to. But it’s been about ten years so we are risking it and taking the meloxicam.

Unfortunately he didn’t receive my MRI or the report. I did think ahead and got the mri on disc so I gave it to him. I got the report now and need to send it in.

he ordered me to go back to exercise class and get some physical therapy done.

Out of the blue he asked if I had sleep apnea. I told him I was just diagnosed and had a mouth device. He said get a cpap.

Since my neuro isn’t covered by insurance I need to get physical therapy and the cpap through my primary doc but can’t see him until Aug. 22.

But I’ve been feeling much better. The new meds are working. When I feel I’m getting tight I eight use the hot pad or the massage gun.

And I got to exercise class both days!!

Thank you for all the kind words and prayers!

Amitripaline made my headaches SO much worse. I now take Ajovy (monthly injection). I still have headaches but nowhere near what I used to. I do take Tizanidine at bedtime. Glad that you are doing better

It had no affect on my headaches, but it made me incredibly woozy. You would think I was drunk!!

This medication scared me. I think it has been about 15 years since took it.

It scared me too. But I only took it ten days. My friend takes it for another medical need and it has made a huge difference.

So glad you are feeling better! Insurance is a 'butt ache', isn't it?

Sometimes! Actually mine is pretty good. At least my neurology visits have kept the cost reasonable.

I am really happy for you! I take Tizanidine as well and it really helps with my spasticity. I’ve taken meloxicam in the past too, which is very effective..
