Back Surgeon Appointment

I saw the surgeon yesterday and I don’t think I will be having surgery. I’m very happy on one hand, but concerned that I can’t get any solid answers about any relief on the other hand. I am getting scheduled to have a nerve conduction test sometime in the next two weeks, from the end of my spine down through my legs. My left leg has a pain that comes and goes. It seems to be related to my sciatic nerve. But the surgeon said that my MS is a big wild card (or beast) in the whole process. May I keep you guys posted? I feel like you are the only people who understand how this feels. Thanks. Love to everyone, Kelly

Yes! Please keep us posted! While I am glad you do not have to face surgery, pain can be a *witch, too. That sciatica is relentless!! Been there.Nerve conduction studies - they tell me women tolerate it better than men, for some reason. Take some Tylenol about 20 minutes prior to the test. You can do that. It's a few zaps that do not last but a moment. I chatted up my technician and distracted myself by asking questions about his job, etc.

I hope you feel better soon. Please keep us posted!

Ha! You do what I do. I always ask a few questions about their jobs!

Amore55 Definatly keep us updated! I have sciatica issues and when it flares, OMG the pain! It was definately worse the 1st time it happened and didn't know what the pain was from. After my family dr ordered an MRI it showed the nerve was compressed. Worst pain of my life!

I had the nerve conduction test many years ago. I don't remember it being too painful, just a quick zing when they would do the different areas...nothing aweful.

Thanks for the insight on the test. I’m not too worried about the zingers, just for a minute or so each and then I’ll have some results. That’s the important thing, right? I’m grateful for your advice.

Of course, keep us posted! The pain from the sciatic nerves is just horrible. I have dealt with it for years, and it can be excruciating! Sometimes, that bottle of Advil is my best friend! Best of luck and let us know how you're doing. Sending hugs 🤗🤗🤗

Had a neck fusion 16 years ago and it went great. Now however the discs below the fusion are failing. The surgeon that I went to because of the new pain and numbness in my left arm stated that the risk of the surgery outweighed the benefits. On the bright side he didn't sugar coat it, I respect that.

I look forward to hearing how the test goes, and of course, what the results are. 🤗

Best of luck with the testing. I hope that you’ll get the information that you need. Hopefully, the results will show a non-surgical path to relief. We all look forward to hearing from you!

I'm sorry that it doesn't look like surgery is the best option at this point; although who really wants it, unless you're really suffering, and there are no other options.

I have had no quality of life with my neck muscles so tight that I am taking 80 mg of baclofen a day, plus clonazepam as needed, so I can barely function. I am also dealing with so much dizziness, which is supposed to be migraine related, from my neck, and also having to do with something about gaze instability with my eyes. I can't read, being on my phone is hard, and riding in the car to all my medical appointments is miserable. The doctors want to blame the MS, but I have bad disks and spinal stenosis for years. I would love to have a nerve conduction test to see if surgery would help me. I feel so depressed because I just can't seem to get answers from anyone. My poor husband is miserable because I'm miserable.

But enough about me! I hope that you get enough information from the test to be useful to you! I really do wish you the best. Thank you for keeping us posted! ❤️

I’m so sorry that you’re going through that! I know how miserable it is to have constant pain and headaches and to feel like you can’t get any answers. One thing we know with MS is that the doctors always want to blame everything on it and not check other things. We must be our own advocates, because nobody else will do it!
