This is something that “YOU” without any shadow of a doubt want to consider. Our initial goal is achieved. Which Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT) That is the huge one and it is out of the way for now. Of course if after a month or more, “YOU” are still having terrible reactions then onto your second DMT choice. Never stopping, just changing medicines. I went from interferon beta 1b to interferon beta 1a for a month because it promised fewer injections. Good idea but bad mistake so I went back to 1b. I little bit later Tecfidera, a tablet, came along and I have not looked back.

I am happy with my DMT, it slows my illness progression and is very easy to take. It is twice a day so I never forget that I have Relapsing Remitting ms (RRms) “YOU” may think that it is impossible to forget RRms, not true. She who must be obeyed is on Copaxone and her 3 a week schedule screws her up a lot. She has RRms twenty-three years I believe. She never forgets her RRms anniversary, it was near a cousins wedding, but she has a habit of doing her shoot really late instead of early. Me, on the other hand, have no idea when I was diagnosed (Dx’d) I relate it to the X divorcing me 1999 so I do get the year. Different strokes for different folks so they say.

Having gone completely off track we must come back to your goals. DMT, done. Diet, go look at the meaning of the word up in a dictionary. Google, we do not use dictionaries anymore, do we? An exercise regime that “YOU” can and will stick to. After a while it can be toned down that is okay, but “YOU” must start the habit. A little is okay we are not trying to look like the Hulk, merely maintaining some movement. There is a very easy goal right there. The added benefit being that some exercise makes “YOU” feel good and it can be shared with spouses or children, even friends. Group classes will let “YOU” interact with others which helps build a new social circle. We are Homo Sapiens and we are social creatures so here “YOU” are solving several problems at once.

We have created solutions that can be achieved easily. Physical it just requires a determination and willingness to do it. Ignore it and go look at some olden days ms advertising and that could be “YOU”. Back then they did not have the treatment options available to “YOU” today, so make use of them and keep yourself as healthy as “YOU” can, considering.

This leads us to a more challenging goal. That of maintaining your mental health and strength. This is far more individual than exercise so it may take a little while longer, it also might be constant. Finding yourself taking a refresher course on rebuilding your mental strength is okay. This illness wears on all of us and forty years of very slowly watching abilities disappear gets to all of us. I really like a Japanese book called Ikigai(AMAZON) that may be interesting. I also like religions of the east, they have such a different way of looking at things, that make us westerners think. Thinking is good, a goal of understanding as many different things that “YOU“ can is a great goal to have.

So you see, feel, understand that goals are your friend. Have them, succeed at them or fail at them. Not important, what is, is having them in the first place.
