For those of you who had to watch the most exciting two minutes in sports during the entire year or as here in Kentucky we call our Kentucky Derby I've got some bragging to-do! Even though the Derby was held in some of the worst conditions it's ever had, with the wettest Derby on record and driving, pouring rain during the race the favorite horse, Justified, showed that he was indeed the stuff of Legends. He made the race look easy in a very talented field as he sailed to victory without even looking back. Now for the bragging part. The farm that sits directly in front of our farm is not only the breeder but also foaled out Justified on their farm. He was then sold as a yearling to WinStar Farm and the rest is history. How exciting that such horse royalty it is being researched, bred, and foaled out on our Lane! Of course if you're not a race fan it's just another sporting event but for the horse lovers out there this is a piece of horse history that happened right where I live! In the center of the horse capital of the world, Versailles Kentucky! Here's to Justified and all I have to say to him is run baby run! The Triple Crown the is within your reach!๐๐๐๐๐๐!!!

I attended the Derby 40 years ago (really cool) and watch it every year!
That is great ๐ It sure was a muddy day for the races. Thatโs neat right next door to where he was born ๐๐๐พ๐ Ken
My husband watched and I took a peek here and there. I was afraid of horses falling and being hurt in all that mud.
I missed the race, so Iโm grateful for the update. They are such magnificent creatures, arenโt they?
Thatโs so neat Fancy! I grew up in Lexington (from elementary years until I graduated from Lafayette High School) and had several friends who lived in Versailles (I know how to pronounce ver-sails too ๐). My best friendโs Dad worked for Sallee so we were always tagging along to events, Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton sales, etc. you just brought back so many memories!
Keeping my fingers crossed for Justified in the Preakness and Belmontโit would be awesome to have a Triple Crown winner this year!! ๐ ๐
How long ago were you at Lafayette High School? We used to own a home when I first got married on the corner of mccubbing Street and Clays Mill. Lafayette was simply On The Other Extreme and of mccubbing. That was about 30 years ago! My how time flies! Last question is where do you live now?
Fancy, we lived off Harrodsburg Road in the Harrodโs hill neighborhood (when it was first built LOL) from 1981 until 1993. I graduated high school in 1990โjust as Dunbar High was opening, so my younger sister went there. We also attended James Lane Allen Elem and Beaumont Jr High.
Went to college in Virginia and have lived here since (except for 5 years in Seattle). Small world!!
I went to the Kentucky derby ๐ years ago before my ms was in my life. Of course I didnโt see a horse but I did have a mint julep, ๐ง. That was the first and last time I had one. Kentucky is a really beautiful state. People are so friendly.
Wasn't that an exciting race! It's so hard to imagine that a 2 year old can have that much talent. Justified ran like he's been running for years & made it look so simple. It would be wonderful to see Justified win the Triple Crown. It's really time for another Triple Crown winner.
