I'm hearing of some really neat ideas people are using to help neighbors, family, the elderly, the disabled, etc. during this time of trouble. I was so pleased when I was out walking the dog, and a neighbor called to me and asked if we were in need of anything. He's always seemed like a sort of tough guy, but he obviously has a heart of gold! It's good to build relationships with our neighbors at all times so we are there for one another during tough times. It reminds me of stories I've heard from the Great Depression and WWII.
Do you have any great ideas? A couple of ideas would be to only buy what we truly need and ask our neighbors if they are doing all right. Check in with any elderly or disabled neighbors to make sure they have enough food. I know many of us are elderly (by some standards) or disabled, but some are worse off than others.

The social distancing makes it so different than when our neighborhood pulls together during a hurricane but 1 neighbor stopped by saying she was making a grocery run, did we need anything
Great post, greaterexp . For one thing, recently exchanged phone numbers with some neighbors haven't really talked to before so we can all look out for each other.
I realized that I hadn't exchanged phone numbers with a few neighbors as I would have done in the days before cell phones. Then we just looked them up in the phone book. I hardly see some neighbors, since a few drive home from work directly into their garages, and aren't seen again until they drive out of their garages the next day. It's really good to know them and be able to contact them easily.
I really like how after such division in this country that people are pulling together. It's a shame that it takes something bad to make it happen. (Do NOT, folks, get into politics on this post!!)
Offering supplies in a senior community. My mom lives in one and someone came door to door with toilet paper. Sending cards to nursing home residents and those at senior living centers...most should be refusing visitors by now.
Many organizations are taking donations and handing out a few days per week.
We have a "Nextdoor Neighbor" app which recently sent out requests for people to add their addresses for those willing to help those who can't get out. We added ours to offer running errands, such as picking up medicines or groceries or running any necessary errands. Most places have the availability of this app, and it's easy to sign up. If you are someone who needs help, this may be a way of getting some, but if you can help, even if it's just to offer phone check-ins, you may sign up for that, too.
