Kenu , I've had the shingles shot but it was Zostavax, not the newer one they're now saying people should get if over a certain age. I'll probably have to have the new one as well. There were no side effects from the Zostavax, for me anyway.

See the thread about the new Shinrx shingles vaccine just approved, not live vaccine, minimal side effects.

Yes, according to this from the New England Journal of Medicine Journal Watch (Oct. 26):

"The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted on Wednesday to recommend use of the newly approved herpes zoster vaccine, Shingrix.

"The inactivated, recombinant subunit, two-dose vaccine was recommended in a 12-to-1 vote for adults aged 50 years and older. The other shingles vaccine on the market, Zostavax, is recommended only for those aged 60 and older.

"Here are some of the data presented to the committee:

"Shingrix had 97% efficacy in those aged 50–69 and 91% efficacy in older adults.

Efficacy was at least 85% at 4 years post-vaccination in patients aged 70 and older.

Thirteen people in their 50s — and 11 in their 60s — would need to be vaccinated to prevent one zoster case.

Shingrix was more efficacious than Zostavax, particularly for older adults.

"The committee also voted to recommend Shingrix for patients who've previously received Zostavax, with at least 8 weeks between vaccines.

Thanks, I hadn’t heard of the new shot for shingles? Will check it out. Doctor said it was fine with him and also cancer doctor approved. Had just heard it had a 50 percent chance of getting shingles? Just a concern🤔

Kenu both of the two neuros I have had forbade me getting a shingles vaccine. I don’t know if that helps you any, but that is just my experience. God bless you. Kelly 😄

Had the shingles shot last year. No side effects. After watching my father with shingles, I didn't want to take the chance. Wishing you the best.

yes 3 months ago and although I had shingles 30 years ago I did not have any side effects from the shot. I was asked to have it for a preventative to the Ocravus.

I had the shot and had shingles several years before that. I wanted the shot because I didn't want to go through the shingles again! The shot caused no problems at all.

Had it a few months ago and no problems at all. My dad had shingles many years ago and he was miserable.
